It's been a long time since we have been here. The service was terrific. It's a casual neighborhood hangout. I wished I liked the Chili Mac more but it was just ok. The Jalapeno Pepper Popper was good with a dipping sauce. The Sante Fe Eggrolls could be a little more crispier. The Grilled Wings (original Texas) were delicious. We would return just for the grilled wings.

As always, the Rockville Hard Times Cafe is great! Our group of 6 was seated immediately even though it's the lunch hour. Drinks hit the table as fast as we could ask for them. Apps came out almost as fast, with perfectly done meals soon after. I prefer a modified Frito Chili Pie, with beans instead of sour cream or tomatoes, with the Texas chili. Definitely the best chili in the DC area, if not the whole state!

We love hard times!!! Fantastic chili--the best in the area for sure. Delicious options, good prices, casual environment, good service. I always get the 5-way with vegetarian chili with the delicious cornbread they make. Go to Carmen's next door for dessert!

Southwest Burger

I tried the chili and the Southwest burger -- overall a solid meal with a few notes. The **chili had a rich, smoky flavor** that I really enjoyed. I would have preferred the beef to be a bit chunkier for that classic Texas-style texture. Traditionally, Texas chili doesn't include **tomatoes or beans**, but I added beans to mine, and I'm glad I did -- it helped balance out the saltiness, which was just a bit on the heavy side. The **Southwest burger** was fine -- nothing to complain about, but also nothing particularly memorable. Just your standard burger. I'd come back for the chili, especially with a few tweaks. Good atmosphere and service, too.

Steak quesadilla.

My steak quesadilla was delicious. My husband had a burger that was ok. Next time he will order the wings again - they are the best. The children had Mac and cheese and a hotdog with fries and they both enjoyed their meals. The hostess was friendly and accommodating. She gave us a great booth next to the front window. The waitress was brisk and very to the point. Atmosphere is cozy. I would have given a 5 but this time the waitress was not friendly or service oriented. Maybe there wasn't enough help but the first time he went to this restaurant our service was impeccable.

A line began forming about 6:30 PM.

How many restaurants have you known that have closed for ELEVEN months...and actually reopened?? Maybe not any. But Hard Times Café in Rockville did exactly that! After plumbing problems and landlord negotiations, Hard Times reopened yesterday. And except for the fact that there are no pictures on the walls...it's like they never left! They rearranged the seating a little, same booths, same plates and glassware. We got there early, about 5:30, and were seated immediately When we left an hour later, a line was just beginning to form. The menu is identical (maybe the prices are a little higher [but not much, I don't think]) The grilled Texas wings tasted the same as I remember them. My son's girlfriend (a chef) said the burger was perfect. I'm glad they're back!

If you want some tasty homemade chili, check out Hard Times Cafe. I heard about this spot through a friend and as we know, we don't gate-keep here. It was a perfect chilly weather day too. There are so many good options on the menu, we wanted to order it all. We started with the jalapeño poppers, and loaded chili fries. Can't go wrong with either. Our choice of chili for these were the Texas and Cincinnati chili. These were amazing. For the entrees we got a Hard Times Chili dog with Texas chili because it was a hit. The highlight of the meal was the 4-Way Chili Mac with Cincinnati chili. This was so good! Don't get it twisted when you see it has spaghetti noodles. It is chefs kiss and perfect with the Cincinnati chili. For the sweet tea lovers, they do have yummy sweet tea. You know you can't find sweet tea (without the sugar packets easily up North) so chase your food down with some refreshing sweet tea. Staff is friendly and service is quick! We will be back to try more chili items!

First glance, seems like a small and old pub with food. But head inside ans take a second glance... the staff takes great care of you, and the prices are fair and the food is very good... Loved the salmon salad. No happy hour. But prices are good!

Just a great local neighborhood spot. The best chicken wings I have ever had. Very good burgers and the chili is second to none.

How am I so late to discovering Ivy and Coney I'll never know! I wound up going to check out a…read moreLions game with my friends from Detroit only to discover it's also a Chicago sports bar! As a HUGE Bears fan, this was truly a treat for me and I appreciated everything from the decor to the menu. Chicago dogs? Italian beef? MY HEART! This is the perfect dive bar to catch a game and I absolutely love the environment. As a Chicago(land) native, Ivy and Coney hits home in all the right ways. Tucked away in the Shaw neighborhood, this unassuming spot is a Midwest haven in the heart of DC. Let's start with the food: the Detroit-style pizza is phenomenal. Crispy edges, generous portions (you get 8 slices!), and packed with flavor. Perfect to share! Other notable mentions included the cheese curds, smash burger, or legit Chicago-style dogs. The space itself is exactly what a dive bar should be: cozy, casual, a little rowdy when it needs to be, and full of character. The back bar with the retractable roof is a hidden gem for game days. When I visited it was a beautiful evening and having the roof retracted added a special touch! And the staff? Peak Midwest nice (IYKYK). Friendly, quick, and genuinely happy to see you. Catch me here on Mondays, Thursdays, or Sundays (i.e., whenever my team is on the screen!). Whether you're here for sports, snacks, or just the atmosphere, Ivy and Coney delivers every time. It's my new go-to spot for a slice of home, and if you're from the Midwest (or just love great food and chill vibes), it should be yours too.

First, the hostess acted like we were an intrusion into her evening, didn't welcome us or make eye contact. She sat us at a booth, which didn't work, so she did seat us at a table. I asked for a vegetarian menu, knowing there was one, but she walked off, did not return. Our waiter was a young man, spoke very softly; we both had a difficult time hearing him. My wife ordered her drink; I asked for a few more minutes. That drink did not appear until half my meal was over, which I did not appreciate. And I had to ask 3 times to get the drink, including asking another waiter. We ordered salad and main dish; my vegetarian menu finally appeared. It just seemed both the hostess and our waiter did not care to attend to us. I do not know if we will be returning; and to top this all off, both the hostess and waiter called us 'Guys'. When two older women are sitting at the same table, we are ladies, or simply nice to see you two tonight. Please tell your wait staff to get this right. We like Bungalow Lakehouse, it is close to home, and the atmosphere is comfortable.

Wanting a change of scenery, we decided to stop by the Greene Turtle. Four of us arrived first and the other two filtered in shortly afterwards. I just wanted a salad so got the the chicken casear. Very standard for a sports bar. A friend ordered the appetizer trio which was a good sharing plate. I'm not exactly sure what the $8 discount was for, but I'll take it! Judging from the line item, I'm guessing it had to do with the app trio we got? Service was good. It wasn't very busy and we were at a table in their dining room area. Since it's a sports bar, views are good from basically anywhere. the whole point of coming is to watch sports, right? Good spot to grab some food and catch a game or more. REVIEW #3876
