This place has been closed for months. It was operating with reduced days but then closed for good.

A couple guys from work and I came here last night for karaoke and we all had a blast! We arrived here slightly early and there only a few people in the place because the karaoke wasn't supposed to begin until 8.30pm. We were all fine with and basically sat around drinking Coronas. We also got some chips with salsa which were fine. It was a very chill environment and everyone including the bartenders were having fun. We took the s buying rounds, and even bought a round for the guys sitting at the table next to us. This place is situated close to Columbia Heights Metro so getting there was easy. The ones that were smart left before the metro closed, the rest of us like me ended up getting an Uber ride home. This is a great place, and I would like to come back here sometime. read more

I had an amazingly sweet whole hour to myself on a Saturday afternoon without kiddos, so I stopped in for a beer and some tots and read my book in peace at the outdoor bar. The beer was tasty and the tots were SO GOOD. Very crispy and the cheese sauce was addicting. The bartender was perfectly attentive and I would be back anytime to chill and watch some sports. read more

As someone that visits here semi-regularly with my partner during Premier League season, I can say with certainty that the staff is GREAT. Kind, ridiculously efficient during packed Arsenal games, and able to handle a large crowd. My concern is with the inventory. Sometime over the last few months the reality has been a very limited menu, and (today, during my visit) literally four beers on draft. End of list. I don't know if business is bad and the owner is treading water, or doesn't care, but it's just... sad. For now, I wouldn't recommend coming here. I hope they right the ship! Because during a game, it's (normally) absolutely delightful to be here. Edit - those that don't like the QR code system, to each their own. But we love it. Went to an event here. They seemed unprepared except for a few reserved table tents. Service was really poor. Took forever to order a drink. Pen didn't work. Loud music hard to hear. It looked like great outside seating but our group was off to the side inside. A friend ordered a bay breeze and the bartender didn't know what was in it. I had a burger and ordered it medium. Used to go here after soccer games, we could get pitchers and buckets of drinks for decent prices but now it's $9 for a seltzer and you can only buy singles. No tap on the menu and it's all cans...Food has changed and is good but overpriced. All service is from a QR code with minimal to no staff interaction with a forced 20% tip. I come here often for drinks, simple food, and watching all kinds of games. They have gluten free beers, they're generous with wine pours, and the service is friendly if sometimes slow - ironically on super-busy days it's lightning fast and it's the slower days when it's problematic. But it's a great vibe, and pretty good food for a sports bar! The city bar nachos are great. Only one warning: once I noticed on a receipt a mistake where "suggested gratuity" amounts were off from their amounts (for example, the amount it suggested you leave for a 20% tip was actually 25%!). A few days later the manager told me it was a mistake by one of the employees, and hopefully they're not doing it anymore - but just do the math when you get your bill! read more

This is not a bad sports bar and I enjoyed it. There were plenty of seats and TVs and you can order via QR code menu to get food and drinks to the table. The prices were not that bad either. Basic sports bar with basic food and drinks but if you are trying to go out and watch a game then there is not anything more you can really ask for out of this place. The evening was so beautiful yesterday, we had to find a cute patio bar to have a few beers and a bite to eat. Lou's didn't look very busy, so we decided to give it a try. We self-sat ourselves at a long bier garden-style table. Our waiter approached us immediately, was very knowledgeable of the menu, assisted us with choosing our beers (we went with Peruvian Cristal - a light lager) and took our order. I loved the communal, chilled, relaxed mood of the patio. Dogs lounging around, humans chatting, sun setting, mood. Loved it. Food was alright, the crab dip was exactly as expected, the sriracha-lime wings were a little dry, Guinness bbq wings - delicious. Will definitely stop by again. read more

A neighborhood sports bar with 24 drafts, tons of screens, frequent events, and a chill patio. Not bad. It doesn't offer much by way of ambiance, and I wouldn't have high expectations for food, but to see a game or have a chill beer, they're hard to top in this area. Consistently nice bartenders, too, in our experience. Bonus points for being the current home to Friday open sing for District Karaoke. We may have belted out some Cher. Extra bonus points for the current seasonal draft, Founders Breakfast Stout for just $4. Now that's a friggin' steal. read more

We came here to meet up with friends and I was amazed at how big the place actually was upon entering. They have seating outside as well as indoors. I ordered the chicken tenders thinking it would only be a few, however when they came out I was in shock at how much was on the plate along with fries. They were cooked to a golden crispy brown and when I bit into it oh my it was delicious! My go to sauce is always honey mustard and not sure if it's house made, but it was good as well. My husband ordered the wings which he stated was cooked to perfection and he enjoyed them with the Guinness sauce. I also had a side of the Guinness sauce as well which you can diff taste the stout in the sauce not overpowering but just good. Drinks were fairly priced and of course oftentimes you'll find that there's a drink special going on so do ask your waiter/waitress for the specials of the day or evening. All in all Lou's City Bar did not disappoint the staff was friendly and professional. Our waiter was very responsive and always checking to ensure we were satisfied. Lou's we'll be back! My friend and I came for brunch using a Groupon and we were pleasantly impressed. The mimosas, which were bottomless under the Groupon, was perhaps the best I've ever had. Without a Groupon it is still a great deal, only $5 per glass with the next one free. The food was delicious as well. We both got the Californian and Hot Cakes. The Californian has 2 eggs, avocado, bacon and cheddar cheese on roll with the most delicious remoulade sauce. We did get ours without the bacon, and it was still wonderful. The hot cakes we're also delicious and very buttery, something neither of us could make so well at home. The Lou's Tot-Browns that comes with each entree has sort of an an oatmealy texture and are perhaps the best breakfast potatoes I've had. The service was also excellent and very attentive. We came in when it was quiet but the noise picks up when the football games begin. I definitely look forward to coming back. read more

I'd say Lou's is a great bar to check out if you're already in the neighborhood, but it's not quite worth traveling to Columbia Heights. I've been a few times because it's convenient and will probably stop by a few more times, but won't be recommending Lou's to everyone I meet. Pros: bunches of outdoor picnic bench seating, rarely super crowded, moderately priced, friendly waitstaff, some decent beers, plenty of TVs for watching sports (even outside). Cons: takes a while to be served outside, decent but not huge beer list, good but not incredible food. Also, one random note: they don't have a ton of vegan options, but one of them is a vegan crabcake sandwich with a creamy sauce and it's surprisingly yummy! read more

Terrible. Will never order anything from them again. Ordered a dinner from grubhub for delivery. It came quickly, but I guess that's easy when you don't bother to deliver the food you advertised. I ordered a Quinoa Salad with Steak. Is it just me or should a Quinoa Salad actually include - QUINOA? It was just steak, spinach leaves and some feta. It was supposed to have: Local greens, red peppers, cilantro, feta, jalapeño & herb vinaigrette. Called and spoke to the "on-duty manager." His response was call Grubhub. No other options were offered. A simple apology or an offer to send out the right menu item would have immediately resolved the situation. But thanks to his bad attitude, I'm left with no other recourse, but to warn other prospective patrons to steer clear of this place. read more

My wife and I bought tickets to watch the Mayweather McGregor fight at Lou's and we had a good experience! The tickets were $20 online and $25 at the door, a lot cheaper than other places we searched. The tickets guaranteed us seats to watch the fight, which paid off later when others were standing and watching the fight. Eric, our waiter was very attentive and knew we were there to watch the fight so was not annoying nor did he keep asking us to order. We ordered the Guinness BBQ wings to start off and they were sweet and juicy. I did not order a main entree, but my wife ordered the chesapeake burger and thought it was okay and "not that special." However, the sweet potato fries were very good! I did order the apple pie and it was truly homemade - nothing special to it, but very good. $3 Coors and other beers fairly priced. The venue itself is great- TVs everywhere! Lou's shows all different types of sports and for the fight they had the large projector. The only downside to Lou's was how cold it was in the bar. It was literally freezing - we were trembling. This was the only downside to the bar. We are definitely coming back to watch other sports! I ordered over 60 dollars worth of food using Uber Eats from this place. I cannot believe my 15 dollar chicken sandwich was basically a few chicken tenders between two big buns doused in mayo and lettuce. The steak and cheese was the worst looking steak and cheese EVER! All I saw was lettuce and bread. Wheres the meat?! My honey glazed hot wings were dry AF! If you want good service, but a bar manager that can't keep up with inventory, a kitchen staff with a busted printer, a kitchen that puts out room temperature food, and a shift manager that can't void a check, this is the bar for you. So I wasn't going to bother with a bad review, because things happen, but seeing as I was double charged, here's a story about Lous... keep in mind, I've worked in restaurants/bars for almost 10 years though I haven't since 2012. Maybe times have changed. We went to Lou's on Friday May 11th because we were in the area. It was pretty crowded but we weren't in a rush. We ordered beers but they were out of a couple options which is totally fine, it happens. We also ordered an appetizer and entrees (well tried to order a quesadilla, but they were out of that too - it happens). Food was talking a little while which again, totally fine. Turns out the "kitchen printer broke" which once again, totally fine. They brought the app out, beers were still cold, so we were happy. But then our food came out which was very dry, lukewarm, overcooked burger, not super appetizing. We told our waitress at that point that she did a great job but really we just didn't have an appetite for the food at all. She apologized and we told her it was fine, it happens, no big deal, we just wanted to let her know. So it comes time to sign the check. The waitress was kind enough to give us 15% off, nice gesture... I hand her my card and she brings back the bill, and fortunately before tipping and signing, we noticed the quesadilla was still on there. After about 15 minutes of trying to fix the bills, we thought we got it squared away, they were supposed to void that one and re-run it for the proper amount, without the quesadilla (while still paying for the two entrees we didn't eat, mind you). Turns out both charges are still on my credit card. I'll be reaching out to Lous so i can see both signed copies (Spoiler, the first was never signed because of the wrong item on the check). So to recap, if you want great service, but a bar manager that can't keep up with inventory, a kitchen staff with a busted printer, and a shift manager that can't void a check, this is the bar for you. One or two of these would be a normal night at a restaurant, and I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, but to double charge my credit card because you don't know how to void a check is unacceptable. read more

So my wife wanted to go here because it's the bar Seth Rich visited before his murder. We went here on a Saturday afternoon. The server really had a problem remembering what we ordered and bringing our refills. I did appreciate the sports paraphernalia and plentiful TVs to watch the action on. We ordered the spinach dip, which was good. My wife ordered quesadillas, which she said were good. I had the Cobb salad, which was kinda bland. They didn't have much of a rum selection to speak of. A friend of mine is visiting and she loves sports, so I figured why not take her here? I'm also a fan of sports bar food, so I was pretty stoked about it. We went inside and the bar was full. They do check your id as soon as you walk in. You also seat yourself. We sat in a booth that was dirty. Our server gave us the menus before realizing that our table needed to be wiped down. Even then, she still missed a couple of crumbs. Not a big deal. They do have happy hour on a Friday, so that's cool. (There's also karaoke every Friday night from 9-1am.) I ordered the chicken tenders with fries and I was excited about it. I bit into it and thought that something about it was peculiar. I continued to pick it apart with my hands and realized that the chicken tender was not fully cooked. Our server took a look at it when I told her and her response was, "Ew." Needless to say, I lost my appetite. The service was just atrocious. When my other friend arrived and asked which beer is discounted for happy hour, our server asks, "Hm. How long do we have until happy hour is over? Oh ok you still have time." (We told her that HH wasn't over, but also, she had a phone so she could've checked the time herself.) It also took a while to get our check. So disappointing. I really wanted to like this place. Doubt I'll be back. read more

Very weird bar. I only returned because i live upstairs and i like to watch football. The service is probably the worst in DC, and i was a bartender for over 20 years. The servers/bartenders act like they're angry that you're bothering them. My table got food and drinks and it seemed like our server (i think it was joe or joey?) seemed very reluctant. More than once we caught him staring and pointing at us from across the room. It made me and my wife very uncomfortable! Very strange. I will have to find somewhere else to watch football. read more

Great place to watch a football game. The food and beer are good and reasonably priced. The service was quick. The required "Toast" system for ordering and paying is terrible. You have to creat an account, which has a few steps and takes some time. After all that, it didn't work on my phone. Okay I've been in DC most of my life and I have never written a restaurant review until today. From my first encounter with a staff member the female hostess waitress bartender. I think she's the jack-of-all-trades there. hand me my menu and didn't even look me in my face. Another female comes and takes my order along with two friends. She was fairly friendly. And the service was decent. That's my one star. But the food is garbage. And I hope the health department really put the heat on this place. I ordered the New England sandwich which is very much like their version of a Reuben. The meat was old the sauce taste as if it was spoiled. and at the time we decided to sit out on the patio which was pretty much empty except another 4 top. And the waitress coming over to get our check like she was in a rush to clear the table. They gave me a half cut burger and a whole tomato. What do I do with the whole tomato when the burger I'm suppose to put it on is already cut? Just stupid. HORRIBLE SERVICE.
