Pretty soon after, I knew I was going to need to do something for my mental and physical health, so I Googled "Pilates studio Highland Park," came across Body Evolve, and booked a 10-pack. I have a dance background and have been studying Pilates on the West coast for about 15 years. I've worked with Master Instructors Lara Hudson and David Woods and have fairly high expectations when it comes to a Pilates studio experience. Body Evolve exceeded all of my expectations. Their in-person reformer classes are a max capacity of 4. This allows the instructors to be very hands-on, and give personal corrections and guidance throughout the class. The studio is HUGE compared to what I'm used to in San Francisco, and it's on the second level of the building surrounded by windows with beautiful natural light shining in, especially in the morning. So, so peaceful, even when the class is tough! My first class happened to be on Yom Kippur. The other 3 students had cancelled as a result. Much to my surprise, Body Evolve and instructor Kathy kept the class on the books and gave me a private lesson for an hour! Because it was a 1:1, Kathy and I got to talking and I shared my circumstances around my visit. She was so kind and compassionate and I left there feeling whole. I've since taken classes with Jenay, Sarah, and Arlene and all of them are fabulous instructors. To me, the amazing instructors are the ones who work seamless transitions into the movements. Yes, you have to change your springs or walk to the other side of the reformer every once in a while, but if the transitions between movements are smooth and keep you working, you know the instructors know what they are doing. This is the case always at Body Evolve. The other ladies in the classes are very friendly too, everyone introduced themselves to me as the newbie in class (it seems like everyone knows each other at this studio, which is awesome!). If you live in the North Shore, or are simply visiting like me, take a few classes here. You are bound to be in for a great experience and an amazing workout too.

Pilates has helped me improve my overall fitness and reduce muscle pain. I also think my posture has improved. Overall, I highly recommend Essence as a studio where the standard of training their instructors is above the norm and where Marilee (owner and trainer) is focused on excellence in her people.

There are classes throughout the day from 6am - 7pm. I like to try classes with different instructors. Each has their own followers and a different vibe. I started with just one class a week and now I find myself in four or five classes a week. The saying "You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions and have a completely new body in 30 sessions" is completely true. Random people and even loved ones have noticed the changes. While not easy, a Pilates practice is achievable by everyone -- I have seen all ages and all sizes -- and the resulting transformation-- to mind, body and even spirit -- is something I have strived to achieve for decades I am taking off one-quarter star because the reformers are a bit closer together than the other studio I also frequent.

This place is a laugh…read more They advertise (on social media) that you can get a free "complimentary. class", which sounded great, so I responded to it. The forms they ask you to fill out online are so glitchy and horrible; I filled out the same form three times because it kept refreshing. I get to the the studio for my "complimentary class"; I first walk in and the studio reeks of sweat. (Note that I have been attending studio fitness classes for years; I have never walked into a studio and thought it reeked of gnarly sweat before. Ever.) I get there, I buy grippy socks for class, and at this point I'm overlooking the smell and pumped to to give the class a chance. I then find out from the gal at the front desk that what I'm about to go into isn't a full 50 min class, but it's a 30 minute introduction to pilates where the instructor will be explaining how to use the machine. Note that manager Ali texted me and followed up with me after I originally responded to the ad, and used the term "complimentary class." So this is NOT a "complimentary class" for first timers... they sucker you into the studio by lying to you and calling it a "complimentary class" but you get 30 minutes of someone telling you how to use the machines. I asked if it was a true workout, would I sweat etc.. the front desk gal said "maybe". I took off my grippy socks and left. I went home and worked out in my home gym for an actual workout. I also need to note that I got to the studio 15 min early before the fake class was supposed to start. I was watching a class inside that was ongoing. The instructor was sitting while telling everyone what to do, and on her phone during the class. That's the epitome of uninspiring. In conclusion: This place smells horrible, has shoddy business organization, and they lie to people to get them into the studio. I look forward to seeing what business takes their place soon!

I also am trying to get out of the mindset that a workout has to = cardio and so I found myself at my neighborhood Pilates Studio, The Pilates House. I've taken 3 classes and 2 privates with 5 different instructors (shout out to Amanda, Lila, Karen, Haley and Kate). While all my friends who go here seem to have their favorite instructors (and all different favorites), I've really enjoyed all of their classes. I plan to sign up for more of their classes and try other instructors as well. I've left all their classes feeling like a got a great core workout (among other parts of my bodies) and wondering what took me so long to jump on the pilates train. it's a small studio so there's typically one class of 4 people at the same time as a private at the other side of the studio. Only 4 people in a class at a time means that it can be quite difficult to get into a class, especially as the most popular workout times (8:30 or 9:30am). I've been trying my best to book a class weeks ahead of time, but it still isn't easy to get in. I have had luck with putting myself on the waitlist for classes so highly recommend giving it a shot. And I was told if there's a class that works best for your schedule AND it has an opening you can get a regular spot, but it's hard for me to commit to a certain time and day of week with work and kids. I haven't seen a class later than 12:30pm on the schedule so would be great to see some late afternoon and early evening classes added to the schedule at some point. I'm eager to commit to Pilates at least once a week with the hope that I can get a spot in class each week!
