Just showing what bed big poop looks like

I would condemn this place if I could. There was a group of us all checking in, and ever ly one of our rooms was filthy and disgusting. There's was blood stains EVERYWHERE. On every mattress, the floors, walls and furniture. The rooms were obviously not cleaned before our arrival. I've stayed in a lot of sketchy places, but this was unstayable. The place stunk. There were big holes and crack and broken fixtures in every room. Some windows on the outside were broken and there was a dirty needle laying outside. There's obvious signs of recent bed bugs, probably meaning there's live ones and/or eggs. Also pretty sure I saw at least 2 prostitutes. Do not stay in this hotel, you are better off in your vehicle.

Expired food in their vending machine.

LOVE this place! I wanted to live there! Very clean and beautiful. Right on the boardwalk. My dogs…read moreand I walked the boardwalk every day, a bunch of times every day. I don't recommend walking in front of the hotel with dogs on the sidewalk though. The grass isn't cut, and there is trash and who knows what thrown in the long grass in front of the hotel. Loved the bed, the pillows, the soaps and the staff. We enjoyed this hotel so much. I could see the Big Fiddle at the dock from my window! So wonderful to watch the glow on the water change over the course of a few days. Morning, afternoon, evening, night. This place is also very central to many good places to go - like the Governor's Pub across the street with live music every Saturday night. And the Cidery a little ways up the road - live music on Sunday nights. My dogs and I enjoyed our stay very much. 100%. Loved this place. Hope to go back some day. ALSO - it was interesting to stay here for a few days and see how the port changes when there is a ship in the port or not. How busy it can get, how quiet it can be, what the locals do differently when there is no ship in port. It was all very interesting in early June, 2024.

Disappointing Stay - Holiday Inn Sydney Waterfront…read more My wife and I hadn't been back to Sydney in nearly 40 years, so we were excited to return last weekend to reconnect with friends and family. We booked our stay through HCI, using some of our points. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. When we arrived, our room wasn't ready. That was the first red flag. The lobby furniture was noticeably worn and tired-looking. Once we were finally able to check in, we noticed smudged paint around the door and wall of our room. Inside, there was a gap between the hallway carpet and the tile in the suite -- signs of poor maintenance. Still, we decided to stay. That's when we discovered that the toilet didn't work. We contacted the front desk and were told the maintenance staff was unavailable -- and that we'd need to use a plunger ourselves. Seriously? No one ever showed up, and no plunger was provided. We were forced to use the lobby restrooms, which were in even worse condition: stall locks broken, sinks that didn't drain, and stained porcelain everywhere. We informed the front desk that we had lunch reservations and would be returning around 1:00 PM. We asked for either a working toilet by then or a new room. We also made it clear that if neither was addressed, we would not be staying another night. This is not the level of cleanliness or service I expect from Holiday Inn or IHG. I tried to find a way to contact Holiday Inn or IHG directly to provide this feedback, but had no luck -- so I'm sharing it here. Hope this helps others. If you do stay here, lower your expectations.

We didn't arrive until about 7:30pm as we drove the beautiful Cabot Trail to get there, which took quite a long time. The hosts, Bill and Carolyn, were out for a walk when we arrived and left a note for us on the door with their phone number. We grabbed some pizza and then went back to the B&B. Bill and Carolyn are both very friendly and genuine people. Sometimes when you go to a B&B it's hard to talk to the host, or even a little awkward, but this was not the case at all. They have such a pleasant demeanour. The house itself is over 100 years old and beautifully restored. There are three rooms, all priced at $100/night. We stayed in The George room on the second floor, which is probably the most basic of the three. I was actually quite surprised at how spacious it was. The room has a queen bed, a couple of chairs, a dresser and TV and free wifi. The bathroom had a shower only, but plenty of room to move around in. There was also a small living room on the second floor with a variety of books, a couch and a desk. Bill also paints, and there were several of his paintings up throughout the house. Breakfast was very good. We spent very little time here as we went out at night and left in the morning, but I highly recommend the George & Cottage B&B. It is very obvious that Bill and Carolyn put a lot of work and love into the place.

The best bargain in lodging in the entire time zone, near as we can tell. The Cambridge is a modern…read moresuites-oriented hotel, that seems to have a lot of business travelers, tucked into what passes for downtown in Sydney. We got a four-room suite (counting the bathroom and dressing room as rooms) with an ocean view for a song, and it was quiet, clean, well-appointed, and comfortable for four of us. The staff -- both front desk and housekeeping staff - were extremely helpful to us, and we appreciate the fact you can turn down chamber service. We used their laundry as well, which was reasonable and available, and the breakfast was quite ample if standard fare, with plenty of space to spread out in the restaurant. We used this as a base to explore the entire rest of the island, and that proved to be a good choice. You can get north to the Cabot Trail in a little over an hour, and Louisbourg is just a half hour to the south. The lodging price here at the Cambridge was probably a third of what was being charged closer to the "sights" and as noted, it was quite comfortable. Very warmly recommended, and my son's new favorite hotel of all-time.

There was no decaf coffee in the lobby, as well as no tea. I was invited to purchase decaf the restaurant by two staff people that had a thin smile on their faces. The regular coffee kept running out at the free coffee station. I know petty but passing through for one night it can make a difference. Parking was $15, that's on me for not reading the fine print, but I booked this room thinking I was paying for upgraded services. It was the highest rated hotel at the time. Speaking of upgrades, if the front desk is upgrading a guest maybe not announce it loudly, such as the Skyline room with free room service. Observing this guest and feeling stung by extra money out of pocket for the parking fee and the lack of decaf based on a medical issue felt punitive. I don't understand why the God in heaven or the computer algorithm chose this fortunate guest and not me. I wouldn't feel this way had the parking fee and the coffee service had been handled in a professional manner. All in all a fantastic room clean, spacious, quiet 10+. Service, 5. Management ,do better, not everyone is putting their room on an expense account. The little things make a difference, thin smiles and annoyance with guests is noticeable. Signed, a jittery, caffeinated, and possibly petty American with a high blood pressure issue. PS the shower handle is broken in 605. Thanks

Typically I only stay at the Comfort Inn when I am traveling in smaller towns where some of my preferred hotel chains don't have a location. The Sydney Comfort Inn is well located, on the waterfront and close enough to restaurants and the casino. Once the check-in completed, I walked down the hallway towards the staircase at the far end and was taken aback by the strong smell of cigarette smoke. I honestly can't understand why hotels still tolerate smoking in any of their rooms. Unfortunately, the smell had even wafted upstairs but it was much less noticeable. My room, on the second floor, was nice enough and comfortable. It was also impeccably clean, which is really what we all want in a hotel, isn't it? An unexpected touch in a hotel of this type is the 32 inch flat screen plasma TV. A complimentary continental breakfast is served, oddly enough, right in the main lobby. It's a bit strange to have lots of people walking by, checking out with their suitcases, while you're buttering your toast. With a $95 rate, this is definitely a good choice in Sydney but with the nearby Delta soon to fly a Holiday Inn banner, with probably some pretty aggressive pricing, they might have a hard time competing.

I never thought of myself as a hotel snob, but maybe I am. Once we walked through the door (from the handy parking lot) we entered a lovely warm, modern lobby. We were greeted by an adorable, funny, helpful and knowledgeable staff member. We booked in and headed to our room. We had a modern, possibly newly renovated room. We had a king sized bed (ok, it didn't have 10,000 pocket coils or a European cloud pillow top), but it was pretty comfortable. There was a love seat, table, chair, microwave, fridge and coffee pot...just like home! And both sides of the bed had side tables with lamps. The lamps were equipped with power outlets-BONUS The washroom was clean. The water was hot, the temp didn't waiver and the pressure was great! There was a motion sensing light switch over the sink, but thankfully you can turn it off so the bright light doesn't turn on and wake your partner when you sneak off for a puddle in the middle of the night. Brekky was a typical continental breakfast. Nothing fancy. Fruit, yogurt, cereal, danishes, pancakes, toast, sausage and egg 'patties.' We didn't have any major complaints. I wished there was a spare blanket so when hubby turned the air conditioner on, I could be comfortable, too. The other issue was that the room don't block out he sounds from the hallways. Thankfully we travel with earplugs but it could have been a real damper on our stay.

Sydney Travelodge. Filth!!! The word filthy doesn't come…read moreclose to describing this place. Our room had also been entered by someone, I'm going to assume from the facility. I know this 100% because I had an awful feeling about this place and I put a facecloth in the door as I closed it. Upon our arrival back to the room, the facecloth was not in the door and not even on the floor behind the door. I addressed this with the front desk whom didn't show any concern. We did not request housekeeping or anything for that matter, so there should have been no breech of entry into our room. He asked how could I be a 100% sure and I explained what I had done. Security in this place is a huge concern along with the bacteria infested disgusting carpets and anything you touch. We were charged $45.00 extra for our dog, to which they refunded. Are you kidding me!!! Not to mention 220.00 for this dump pit of a room . I would rather have thrown that money out the window and stayed in our vehicle than have stayed there. I have included some pictures, but they do not describe how dirty it was. This place is poorly managed and there is no sense of pride anywhere in the lodgings. I addressed this also at the front desk and they offered me another room to which I refused. I didn't have faith another room would be any better or cleaner. They then gave me the managers card and told me to call. I called it and it rang at the front desk, to where I was standing. She answered, the young girl who had just given me the card. I hung up and asked why did you give me the managers card and lead me to believe I could get a hold of her? To which she said, "She's not in until Monday". Not sure why she didn't tell me that in the first place. as she was aware I was going to be calling her right away. I sent an email to the manager and she never responded, days went by and we had vacated the lodgings when I sent Judy, the manager another email with the subject, "Unprofessional Behaviour". I put this in the subject of the email because I had not received a response. She replied with a defensive email, stating that she had been in the hospitality business for thirty years and never truly addressed the issues that we encountered. She also tried to tell me she had been away, to which I asked, "Do you not have 'out of office' on your email". We later discovered our friends in Halifax had the same issue, with the same Travelodge in Sydney, Nova Scotia in the spring. She too, wrote a long detailed review and it appears nothing is being cleaned or rectified to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay. We have stayed in many Travelodges and have never experienced the disappointment and filth we have with this one. I hope this review will address some of the issues of concern and help bring it up to Travelodge standards that we are all usually accustomed to.
