Disappointing Stay - Holiday Inn Sydney Waterfront…read more My wife and I hadn't been back to Sydney in nearly 40 years, so we were excited to return last weekend to reconnect with friends and family. We booked our stay through HCI, using some of our points. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. When we arrived, our room wasn't ready. That was the first red flag. The lobby furniture was noticeably worn and tired-looking. Once we were finally able to check in, we noticed smudged paint around the door and wall of our room. Inside, there was a gap between the hallway carpet and the tile in the suite -- signs of poor maintenance. Still, we decided to stay. That's when we discovered that the toilet didn't work. We contacted the front desk and were told the maintenance staff was unavailable -- and that we'd need to use a plunger ourselves. Seriously? No one ever showed up, and no plunger was provided. We were forced to use the lobby restrooms, which were in even worse condition: stall locks broken, sinks that didn't drain, and stained porcelain everywhere. We informed the front desk that we had lunch reservations and would be returning around 1:00 PM. We asked for either a working toilet by then or a new room. We also made it clear that if neither was addressed, we would not be staying another night. This is not the level of cleanliness or service I expect from Holiday Inn or IHG. I tried to find a way to contact Holiday Inn or IHG directly to provide this feedback, but had no luck -- so I'm sharing it here. Hope this helps others. If you do stay here, lower your expectations.

I don't recommend walking in front of the hotel with dogs on the sidewalk though. The grass isn't cut, and there is trash and who knows what thrown in the long grass in front of the hotel. Loved the bed, the pillows, the soaps and the staff. We enjoyed this hotel so much. I could see the Big Fiddle at the dock from my window! So wonderful to watch the glow on the water change over the course of a few days. Morning, afternoon, evening, night. This place is also very central to many good places to go - like the Governor's Pub across the street with live music every Saturday night. And the Cidery a little ways up the road - live music on Sunday nights. My dogs and I enjoyed our stay very much. 100%. Loved this place. Hope to go back some day. ALSO - it was interesting to stay here for a few days and see how the port changes when there is a ship in the port or not. How busy it can get, how quiet it can be, what the locals do differently when there is no ship in port. It was all very interesting in early June, 2024.

We didn't arrive until about 7:30pm as we drove the beautiful Cabot Trail to get there, which took quite a long time. The hosts, Bill and Carolyn, were out for a walk when we arrived and left a note for us on the door with their phone number. We grabbed some pizza and then went back to the B&B. Bill and Carolyn are both very friendly and genuine people. Sometimes when you go to a B&B it's hard to talk to the host, or even a little awkward, but this was not the case at all. They have such a pleasant demeanour. The house itself is over 100 years old and beautifully restored. There are three rooms, all priced at $100/night. We stayed in The George room on the second floor, which is probably the most basic of the three. I was actually quite surprised at how spacious it was. The room has a queen bed, a couple of chairs, a dresser and TV and free wifi. The bathroom had a shower only, but plenty of room to move around in. There was also a small living room on the second floor with a variety of books, a couch and a desk. Bill also paints, and there were several of his paintings up throughout the house. Breakfast was very good. We spent very little time here as we went out at night and left in the morning, but I highly recommend the George & Cottage B&B. It is very obvious that Bill and Carolyn put a lot of work and love into the place.

There was no decaf coffee in the lobby, as well as no tea. I was invited to purchase decaf the restaurant by two staff people that had a thin smile on their faces. The regular coffee kept running out at the free coffee station. I know petty but passing through for one night it can make a difference. Parking was $15, that's on me for not reading the fine print, but I booked this room thinking I was paying for upgraded services. It was the highest rated hotel at the time. Speaking of upgrades, if the front desk is upgrading a guest maybe not announce it loudly, such as the Skyline room with free room service. Observing this guest and feeling stung by extra money out of pocket for the parking fee and the lack of decaf based on a medical issue felt punitive. I don't understand why the God in heaven or the computer algorithm chose this fortunate guest and not me. I wouldn't feel this way had the parking fee and the coffee service had been handled in a professional manner. All in all a fantastic room clean, spacious, quiet 10+. Service, 5. Management ,do better, not everyone is putting their room on an expense account. The little things make a difference, thin smiles and annoyance with guests is noticeable. Signed, a jittery, caffeinated, and possibly petty American with a high blood pressure issue. PS the shower handle is broken in 605. Thanks

Short Stay, Great Staff (50% of the time)…read more After checking in with a extremely friendly and courteous desk clerk for the first night of my stay. I arrived at my room. When first entering the room the immediate entry way felt crowded as I was met with a half kitchenette (bar fridge, microwave, coffee maker). The counter as well as the assumable electrical panel in the book that is the kitchenette are definitely dated and worse for wear. It appears to have chew marks(?) on the counter and the electrical panel(?) Bares a outdated bulky metal cabinet. On the kitchenette is also disposable cups and hidden away from the coffee maker is a couple of coffee mugs. As I turned to the bathroom to ensure it was cleaned properly I found the usual amenities (shampoo, conditioner, soap). One of the bottles had some sort of stain type goop(?) On them and the bathroom door appears to have lost a fight to a blunt object as just under the unused metal bracket is a fist shaped hole/indent. The toilet seat appears to also have chew marks on it (hopefully from a pet as opposed to a child). The shower curtain is not big enough for the shower and appears to have been cut roughly to fit onto the shower curtain rod as opposed to installed properly. The toilet in the bathroom is now considered low and NOT comfort height which is surprising as the bathroom appears to have just been redone aside from the toilet and the bathtub The bedding appears clean and inviting. The TV set for the room is perched on top of a very well worn out dresser with wear and tear marks as well as questionable choice of pulls for the drawers. This is also seen on the desk in the room as well. The TV set itself is a mediocre size for the room at 24" and is connected to the old style Coax cable so picture clarity is sub par for 2021. The dresser the TV sits on is too low to be able to enjoy comfortably in bed. The room itself was exhaustively hot when entering and the "air conditioning" unit is outdated and outputs no cold air, the bottom panel of it is hanging on by sheer will of the metal panel. The controls for the unit are easy and intuitive however useless to cool down the room. The wallpaper throughout the room is peeling at every seem (possibly due to the heat in the room). The ice machines (located on the 3rd floor and in the basement) one works (basement one) and one does not work at all. I advised one desk clerk of this and they had no feedback regarding the issue. (Maybe they were tired of hearing it was broken?) Due to covid19 and the ongoing pandemic the free buffet is not happening and they offer a "breakfast to go bag" at the front desk from 6-10am. While coming and going I noticed multiple times the front desk clerk not actually at the front desk but in the chairs in the lobby playing on their phone/handheld device. With barely acknowledged someone entering the hotel or leaving the hotel. I'll advise construction is ongoing during my stay so this review will have no bias towards construction noise during hours throughout the day or the visibility of the common areas and focuses just on my room itself and the interactions with hotel staff. All in this would be a higher scored review if not for the lack of upkeep and modernization done to the room itself.

Sydney Travelodge. Filth!!! The word filthy doesn't come…read moreclose to describing this place. Our room had also been entered by someone, I'm going to assume from the facility. I know this 100% because I had an awful feeling about this place and I put a facecloth in the door as I closed it. Upon our arrival back to the room, the facecloth was not in the door and not even on the floor behind the door. I addressed this with the front desk whom didn't show any concern. We did not request housekeeping or anything for that matter, so there should have been no breech of entry into our room. He asked how could I be a 100% sure and I explained what I had done. Security in this place is a huge concern along with the bacteria infested disgusting carpets and anything you touch. We were charged $45.00 extra for our dog, to which they refunded. Are you kidding me!!! Not to mention 220.00 for this dump pit of a room . I would rather have thrown that money out the window and stayed in our vehicle than have stayed there. I have included some pictures, but they do not describe how dirty it was. This place is poorly managed and there is no sense of pride anywhere in the lodgings. I addressed this also at the front desk and they offered me another room to which I refused. I didn't have faith another room would be any better or cleaner. They then gave me the managers card and told me to call. I called it and it rang at the front desk, to where I was standing. She answered, the young girl who had just given me the card. I hung up and asked why did you give me the managers card and lead me to believe I could get a hold of her? To which she said, "She's not in until Monday". Not sure why she didn't tell me that in the first place. as she was aware I was going to be calling her right away. I sent an email to the manager and she never responded, days went by and we had vacated the lodgings when I sent Judy, the manager another email with the subject, "Unprofessional Behaviour". I put this in the subject of the email because I had not received a response. She replied with a defensive email, stating that she had been in the hospitality business for thirty years and never truly addressed the issues that we encountered. She also tried to tell me she had been away, to which I asked, "Do you not have 'out of office' on your email". We later discovered our friends in Halifax had the same issue, with the same Travelodge in Sydney, Nova Scotia in the spring. She too, wrote a long detailed review and it appears nothing is being cleaned or rectified to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay. We have stayed in many Travelodges and have never experienced the disappointment and filth we have with this one. I hope this review will address some of the issues of concern and help bring it up to Travelodge standards that we are all usually accustomed to.

Disappointing Stay Due to Poor Service & Upkeep Issues…read more During my stay at the Harbourview Inn and Suites, I encountered several issues that significantly impacted my experience. While I had hoped for a comfortable visit, a series of maintenance, cleanliness, and service shortcomings made this impossible. The hotel had a persistent odor, and signs of poor upkeep were evident. My room had a rodent issue, which was unacceptable. Additionally, the bathtub drained very slowly, leading to standing water during showers. The curtains were not effective in blocking out light, allowing excessive brightness into the room, including from external car headlights. The light over the door remained on throughout the night, disrupting sleep. Breakfast was served cold, which was disappointing given that a warm meal is typically expected as part of a hotel stay. One of the most concerning aspects was the lack of managerial presence. When I requested to speak with a supervisor, I was informed that no one was available. Despite being assured a callback, three days have passed without any response. The front desk staff appeared unable to escalate concerns, which was unexpected given standard hotel practices. The one good thing about the hotel is the ladies who clean the rooms were 110% amazing. They need a raise and a better hotel to work at.

So sad that there is so much wrong with this disgusting venue. Its only perk is the harbor view…read more From there, it goes downhill. To wit: 1. Sign on front door/chek in windown proclaims "no pets" then the owner's obnoxious and unleashed dog runs up to me. The hypocrisy. 2. The place has horrible, overly bright lighting everywhere- like a walmart. 3. Everything is cheap and cheaply done: the furniture is all Ikea crap- the armoire, the wobbly tableside bed, the headboard. All cheap and poorly made. 4. There was a black, small rodent/mouse that ran across my room floor twice. Had i not been exhausted from a day of travel, I would have packed up, demanded a refund and left. But i stayed and slept wearing all my clothes. 5. The breakfast was just as cheap and gross as the rest of my experience: cereal, unchilled gallon of milk just sitting by itself on a table, and about two tablespoons of eggs that looked old and cold in a warming tray. Nothing looked fresh, all processed and all lazy. The problem with this venue (that feels like a nursing home that got converted into a cheap hotel) is that no made any effort to make anything nice. It was like the owners went in to do the littlest effort just enough to open its doors. Nothing said "we want you here." It was the clearance rack at Walmart in equivalency. No thank you when checking out next to that obnoxious dog barking in the background. Overall: cheaply made, cheaply offered, unsanitary (they actually had a rodent/insect deterent device plugged into the bathroom sink plug), and crappy service. I will not be back. This review is written to spare you the travesty of s-hole dump.
