We were welcome by Donna (staff) and there's nothing welcoming about it. She hurriedly talks about the hotel info but it's more of a mundane task for her instead of being an enjoyable part of her job. Downsides: Accommodation -We were placed in a room that is dated, dingy and smells moldy/musty. -Floors have several stains in them (see pic) and the carpeted floors were uneven and makes squeaking/creaking noises when you walk on it. -We were informed that we have a waterfront view which is partly true. When you're in the lower level rooms, your view will be obstructed by trees /shrubs so it is very unlikely you will see a full view of the Bras d'Or Lake. -Outlet plugs were limited and situated in very hard to reach places. If you didn't bring a power bank, your electronic devices will be nowhere close to you. -Washroom is very small and taking a shower is very unpleasant since it's slower to drain and basically you're standing in water. Dining -Place is very remote, not a lot of places to dine and no shops close by. It will take you more than 20 mins to walk to the nearest restaurant and 5 to 10 mins by car. -That left you with no choice but to dine in their restaurant called McCurdy Dining Room that has limited choice of menus. Food is mediocre and very expensive for a rural place. Seafood chowder is watered down, not a lot of seafood in it and a little bit spicy. Their Seafood Pasta is bland and has more noodles than sauce/seafood. Same goes with their Chicken Parmesan Pasta. You also have to wait for a long time for your food as they're understaff and trying to accommodate more customers that they can handle. -Breakfast was included when we booked our room. It's a buffet style and you get the basic breakfast of eggs, sausage, toast, etc. Upside: Nothing good about this hotel and wouldn't even recommend this to my worst enemy!

We were lucky enough to stay at the Silver Dart Lodge in Cape Breton. What a wonderful location. Overlooking the the lake, and each room has a small patio and chairs to sit and enjoy the views. The folks at this lodge were so friendly and helpful as well. East coast friendliness is definitely evident here! :) Beds were comfy and rooms were well appointed. Separate sink area from the shower/toilet room. Ample closet space. 2 comfy chairs to watch a flat panel tv and free wifi. This hotel also has a great dining room and is not far from downtown Baddeck and other attractions like the Alexander Graham Bell museum.

My girlfriend and I were on a last-minute motercycle trip to the Cabot Trail last summer (August,…read more2011), and we stumbled on the Water's Edge. They had one room available so we took it. The room was comfortable and clean, and had a great view of the water. Wanda the cleaning lady was extra helpful. The staff gave us tips on the best places to see around the area. We went kayaking, visited the Alexander Graham Bell museum, and drove around the Cabbot trail. It also had a cool gallery of local artists in the Inn. Over all, we had an amazing stay, and most of it was because of the Water's Edge giving us such great local tips. If we go back, we will definitely stay there again, as it's located perfectly in the center of all the best sites in Cape Breton. I wrote this same review on Trip Advisor, and I just joined Yelp, so I figured I'd start out by reviewing this place. That's how much we liked it. :-)

Our kids did not sleep and the next day of our trip was ruined. The property looks neglected. Pool ceiling peeling and falling. Walls yellowing. Metal rusting. Gym with a decaying mirror and an ice machine sitting open. Windows fogged and taped instead of repaired. Breakfast was picked clean more than an hour before closing on two mornings and only restocked after we asked. Staff dismissive. Property falling apart. Hard no.

The house-made sorbet was also fantastic. Our server was so friendly and nice and we really enjoyed our whole dinner experience, especially since we ate outside (on the porch). Telegraph is right in the center of Baddeck, near multiple cafes, restaurants, gift shops, a supermarket, and on the same block as nightly ceilidh locales. Visited from the U.S. while touring the Cabot Trail. This is not a 4-Star at all. Maybe 4 stars…read moreout of ten. The food was awful! Pork Schnitzel was inedible. Special mushroom soup was uncooked and tasted like corn starch thickener. The WiFi never worked for the three days we were there. How could this be a four star with the following issues: 1) Outside entrances (Huntly Building), 2) cheap vinyl siding, 3) toilets that move when you sit on them, 4) very soft (squishy) tubs. Positives: Room was clean. Hot water was plentiful. Grounds were well manicured. We were told only two people per room and thus had to get two rooms for family of 4 with young (children) only to then discover that both rooms were suites with pull out sofas that were perfect for young children. What a rip off. This place caters to tour buses and athletic teams. Have stayed at other luxury inns and resorts on this trip that were far nicer and much less expensive. Bottomline: For a 2-3 star, paying $150-$175 per night, it would be fine. Otherwise, stay away.

A Warm Welcome to Baddeck - We'll Be Back!…read more After six mornings of B&B/hotel breakfasts on our Nova Scotia stay, we were happy to choose a self-catering option in Baddeck, giving us the flexibility to eat on our own schedule and grab a bite to eat in the town. Willie's The Worn Doorstep was just what we wanted, and then more. Our suite was more of an apartment with the choice of two queen beds, a fairly large living room area with a kitchenette and verandah. Our room faced away from the street, and it was quiet with no traffic noise.The suite was clean, bright, nicely furnished, with comfortable beds, and a short stroll into town, making it an easy recommendation for others. We also sat upstairs on the roof deck, to enjoy the July weather and the views. But what made The Worn Doorstep an extra special stay for us was the kindness and hospitality of Willie and Gina. We were given a warm Scottish welcome (genuine - Willie is a Glaswegian, transplanted to Canada many years ago). Willie was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Baddeck, gave lots of advice when we asked for local information, and shared many entertaining and interesting stories. Will return for more!
