Ambience, service and food were top notch. Cost cutting Renee for two up top near the window and our server was friendly and helpful. We got the fish cakes and Caesar salad for apps and the seafood pie and Chicken Eirann for entrees. Everything was done perfectly from the pleasantly surprising mango curry sauce with the fish cakes to the savory and delightful sauce on the chicken Eirann. Normally I avoid chicken dishes because they can be kinda boring but the server and some Yelp pictures steered me towards the chicken Eirann and I'm so glad because it was amazing. We came here on a Sunday night about 8:30, a half hour before they closed. It was after a Donegal match, and they were crowded. They don't really have a hostess, so it was awkward putting our name in, one of the waitresses acknowledged us and we waited by the front door. We were seated after 10 minutes and we ordered drinks and food. We assumed they would be trying to close after 9 as soon as they could, but it took a good 30 minutes to get our food. 2 of us had fish and chips, the other a bacon cheeseburger. The fish was very crispy, it tasted good, although I could not detect the freshness of the fish compared to the other places in Ireland. Turns out I like mushy peas, tastes just like split pea soup. The bacon cheeseburger was excellent. The menu closely resembled the menu from Quay west about 2 doors down, so I would avoid steaks and pastas. It took a while to get my second drink, and then a good 20 minutes before we could pay our bill. So it took about 1 hour and 45 minutes to have a pretty basic meal. Can I drop ten stars? What a great experience. Walked in with no reservation, no call ahead. The guy was so Irish nice we got seated in ten minutes. Hannah was an absolute doll serving our table. The decor is outstanding. Now let me tell you about the food. The Irish lamb stew is out of this world, the smoked fish pie left a big smile on my father in laws face and the Chicken Eireann was fantastic with an over the top presentation. I stopped in for a late dinner after a long day traveling. Since the Chef Special dessert was Chocolate Fudge Cake, and that is a must have, I ordered a starter garlic cheese bread and starter chicken Caesar salad. That salad was one of the best Caesar salads I've had in a long time! The chicken was tender, the dressing was flavorful and seasoned perfectly, and the garlic croutons added just the right bite. Amazing! The garlic cheese bread was a perfect compliment to the salad, and it was the perfect blend of cheese and garlic and crunchy, buttery bread. The Chocolate Fudge Cake was also spot on. The cake was warm and tender, and the sauce was the perfect bittersweet topping for the ice cream and cake. The perfect ending to an outstanding meal. read more

This was rated as the second best restaurant in Donegal, if that's the case I would not want to eat at the others below. We also came here as we arrived into town later and it was open slightly later. They didn't have a seat for us when we arrived, not a problem but, a couple came in after us (and we had been waiting for a bit now) and they seated them first. We did get a table and then waited a bit for staff to come and take our order. We did order and the food did take a bit. We both had the seafood chowder, it was ok but, nothing special. I had the Harbour Deluxe pizza - again nothing special. We knew it was at the closing time and wanted to leave to allow the staff to go home but, there were no staff to give us our bill because they had all sat down at a table to have their dinner. A manager even came out and sat down to eat his dinner. After approximate 15 mins we were finally able to pay. Overall not a great experience. read more

Tasty meal in Donegal! We took my parents to Donegal a few weekends ago and were shocked at the lack of dining options in town. Prepping for the worst, we rolled up to one of the few places open for dinner and were greeted with a warm and lively atmosphere. I started with the mussels, had the cod for my main and finished with sticky toffee pudding. J had the haddock, and my parents had the fish and chips and the seafood pizza. Everything we had was surprisingly good and our servers were really great. The breaded mussels were especially tasty. If you are passing through Donegal town please give them a try! read more

Our Lonely Planet book gave this place good reviews, so we decided to try it out even though the Yelp reviews were so-so. We were very glad we came. The cod was very good and the side salad was a legitimate salad! Every other one in Ireland has been either wilted or slimy or literally crispy. Really enjoyed the Jack Daniel's sauce with the grilled chicken. Smithwick's Red beer was tasty. The Merlot from Chile was meh at first but got better with the meal. Good service, very friendly staff (Hannah) who took the time to give us pointers for shopping and sightseeing. Happy to recommend the place. read more

This place was weird. We wandered in on a Saturday night and it was packed, so put our name in and were given an old-fashioned tear-off ticket, then told to go to the other end of the building and wait at the bar for our number to be called. Sure, that makes sense . . . ? The bar was too crowded to even enter, so we hung around outside for awhile before realizing we hadn't heard anyone else called, then ventured upstairs to another HUGE bar which was also packed. There was a band playing, and as the song ended a server announced over the PA system a few tables for a different restaurant. Whaaaaat?! Finally we figured out that all the restaurants in the building were related, and this bar existed as a holding place for people waiting for a table at one of them. Bizarre. Finally, our name was called and we went back to the pizza place for a table. Except, after all that, we didn't even get table service; we were supposed to order at the bar. (Again, makes perfect sense!) The pizzas were inexpensive, so we assumed they were personal sized, and there was no server to ask, so we ordered two, plus a salad. In fact, they were enormous; we couldn't finish either one. Four paragraphs in, I'm finally getting to the food! The pizza crust was excellent, thin and blistered from what I'm guessing is a brick / stone oven. The sauce was also good, though a little sweet for my taste. The cheese was a little too bland, and like most things in Ireland it needed salt, badly. Salt on pizza?! Believe it. It was also a little on the greasy side, and arrived uncut, so we had to saw through it ourselves trying not to make a huge mess (it was so hot the slices collapsed and needed to be eaten with forks.) The biggest disappointment was the pepperoni, which was basically a sliced-up hot dog. Gross. The margherita was much better. The salad was also forgettable: badly bruised arugula, bleu cheese and a drizzle of overly sweet balsamic vinegar, jammed into a tiny bowl from which it was difficult to eat. Getting the check was difficult -- in fact, that word, difficult, basically summarizes our whole dining experience. Portrush is a charming town. Find somewhere else to eat. read more

Standard pub grub, trip advisor had over 200 excellent reviews which makes me feel trip advisor users do not have a clue! I had chowder which was fine but nowhere near fresh fish, profiteroles were ordered and came out less than 2 minutes later, think they were straight from the packet. Meal would have been grand if not priced at normal restaurant prices. The name is misleading, this is not a quality fish restaurant. Waitresses very nice but lack experience. In fairness we did have a bit of craic laughing at how poor it was. read more

Just had a craving for steak and drove into Donegal Town to fulfill it. The place is tastefully decorated and the food hit the spot (albeit wasn't perfect because there was too much fat on the meat). Between 5 and 7pm, they serve the early bird special, so I had crab cakes as a starter and 8oz steak main with a glass of merlot. I'll be back to try the food again but maybe another plate! read more

We loved it. Both the haddock and cod were perfectly cooked. I think my haddock was a tad more flavorful. My dish came on a bed of "champ". This is now my favorite potato accompaniment.
