View of the Statue of Liberty in the foreground and NYC in the background

On this beautiful summer-like Sunday, my partner and I took a couple of our friends visiting from Queens, NY to the "Teardrop Memorial" in Bayonne NJ. Sadly, not too many people know about this place as there was only a handful today. Erected in 2006 by Russian artist Zurab Tsereteli, this 10-story bronzed-plated sculpture was a gift from Russia to memorialize victims of terrorism in the U.S. This monument reflected the image of a jagged tear through the center and a 4-ton nickel tear hanging from the top. The tear represented not only the sadness and grief over the loss of life on 9/11 and previous attacks on the World Trade Center, but also hope for a future free from terror. It is at this location where one is able to see and get a great picture of the Statue of Liberty in the foreground and the spectacular NYC's skyline in the background. Priceless!

The point on the map where Yelp says to go is actually too far. You're at an isolated end point. Stop your car 1-2 miles early along the promenade in front of the apartment buildings. It's a pretty waterside walkway with good views of Staten Island, Manhattan and more.

I love this mostly because of the views and the peace it bring me, just always be careful of your surroundings and you should be fine.

What better place to go than Liberty State Park. I have been here a few times in the past when I lived in the area. I actually played in a college baseball game back in the late 80's when they had a field here. Well, the field is long gone and the park is run by the US Park Service. It's a well maintained facility and provides great views of Lower Manhattan, Jersey City, Downtown Brooklyn, Ellis Island, Lady Liberty and the lower Hudson Bay. Fun fact, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are in New Jersey geographically. I was here for a little over an hour before it got hot. I walked about 2.5 miles from the parking lot to the shore line and south to the end. It was nice break. And by the way, parking is free and there are bathrooms on site.

We parked at one lot and then drove over to another lot to be able to see Lady Liberty. Loved that there were plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view and sounds. There was a strong police presence (while not excessive) so it just felt safer. Side note: I really wish you could walk or ride over to visit Ellis Island from the park since there's a narrow bridge that crosses over, but it's not possible.
