It has a beautiful view of the bridge and the docks, an amazing garden, gorgeous gazebos, and so much to offer a wide variety of people just looking to take a walk or play some hoops. It's safe anytime of the day and there is always a police presence here. I could spend hours here doing nothing but enjoying it for all that it is while laying on a blanket people watching. The park is big and there's a big parking lot but please note that during busy concerts the parking lot gets full so you can expect to park on the street if you don't arrive at least 30 minutes in advance. Also expect a slow moving line when leaving the park on busy days. But overall this is a nice park!

10/4/25 Visit: We came to visit the large crane in the park…read more The Crane is a magnificent structure "not to be missed". The crane was manufactured by the Electric Launch Company (ELCO). It was used to lift the PT boats used in WWII. In the park, there's a plaque dedicated to the people who worked at the Elco Co. along with the service people who served on the PT boats. The park has other highlights: - Stunning marsh birds. - Enclosed viewing areas of the waters. - Lovely wooden bridge. - Benches. Looks like fishing is good here, as we saw several men fishing. During our visit, we did see law enforcement patrolling the area. Unfortunately, the restrooms needed attention. Other than the restrooms, The Richard A. Rutkowski Park is a "must see". There's ample parking along the water.

The best views of NYC are from New Jersey…read more I had some time after arriving in Newark last week while on a work trip and decided to stop here for a walk and some fresh air. What better place to go than Liberty State Park. I have been here a few times in the past when I lived in the area. I actually played in a college baseball game back in the late 80's when they had a field here. Well, the field is long gone and the park is run by the US Park Service. It's a well maintained facility and provides great views of Lower Manhattan, Jersey City, Downtown Brooklyn, Ellis Island, Lady Liberty and the lower Hudson Bay. Fun fact, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are in New Jersey geographically. I was here for a little over an hour before it got hot. I walked about 2.5 miles from the parking lot to the shore line and south to the end. It was nice break. And by the way, parking is free and there are bathrooms on site.

We parked at one lot and then drove over to another lot to be able to see Lady Liberty. Loved that there were plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view and sounds. There was a strong police presence (while not excessive) so it just felt safer. Side note: I really wish you could walk or ride over to visit Ellis Island from the park since there's a narrow bridge that crosses over, but it's not possible.
