We loved the shops in Boothbay better than anything we saw in Bar Harbor. Quality merchandise. Porch was relaxing with its view of the harbor, and we were directed to a lovely shore walking path a few minutes away. Ports of Italy, Harborside 1901, and Harbor Treats are not to be missed. Captain Sawyer's is just a few minutes from the amazing Coastal Maine Botanical Garden.

An Absolute Wedding Treasure…read more When we decided to get married, we wanted to avoid the ridiculously high costs of weddings, and wanted a smaller, "family & close friends only" event, but still wanted a special day, of course. We toyed with the idea of a backyard wedding with "bring food as your gift" on the invite, ditching all the little expensive extras, but it wasn't coming together, especially when Mom fell sick. How lucky we were that a relative suggested the Mill Pond Inn, which was three houses down the street from their home in Nobleboro. It's a cliche, but The Mill Pond Inn is indeed a treasure. Bobby and Sherry are fantastic. We visited the place the summer before our wedding. A few months later, when we first talked with Bobby about our wedding schedule, he said "nah, you don't wanna do that" to a few of our ideas, and, as we were looking at each other during the phone call and realizing he was right, we decided to let him and Sherry run the show. What an *absolute* *relief*! We didn't have all the hassles that other folks warned us about when planning weddings. It was all just handled, and handled well. The food was great (we picked the menu, Bobby and Sherry did the rest . . . and we highly recommend bringing in their neighbors, Leigh and Sharon, who did a pre-ceremony oyster bar with local oysters for the guests as they arrived). Bobby and Sherry dealt with everything but the flowers (and there was a local florist that handled that) and music (we chose a playlist that we played over their sound system). There was *none* of the pre-wedding stress that we'd heard about from so many people. That itself was worth every penny! Speaking of which, the budget Bobby proposed was more than workable (yet another relief). All told the cost was well *under* what we'd budgeted. All we had to do was get invites out (tell your guests to bring swimwear -- the kids and a few adults had an absolute ball jumping into the pond and swimming during the meal and on into the afternoon). Part of the deal was that you had to rent out the entire place, but it was no problem filling the rooms with out of town relatives, and we in fact ended up reserving rooms in one of the homes across the road, which was right on the lake, which gave an added bonus of having lake access for a couple of days. Bobby and Sherry even accommodated Mom, who was in a wheelchair, by letting us bring and set up a portable AC in the front room -- she was very concerned about overheating in her condition, and this made her feel much safer. The day could not have been more magical. It was hot, but they knew where the shady spots were, and we set up so that the chairs and the gathering were in the shade when is was time for the ceremony. The setting was beautiful, and the weather cooperated (though Bobby had contingency plans in case of rain). We give Mill Pond Inn our highest recommendation -- we've given them permission to use our wedding photos, and we gave them our number if you want to hear it directly from us! David & Natalie

The noise between rooms is very difficult to ignore. The WiFi was spotty also And this will sound crazy but the building rocked when couples were engaged in certain activities in their rooms. The porch and garden are beautifully tended and there are multiple places to sit outdoors and relax. Ammi is a talented artist and she has a small gallery of work on the premises where you can view and purchase her vibrant work. Her artwork is also on display in the cottages. We rented two cottages--the Water's Edge and the Rockycrest. The Water's Edge was the perfect little retreat for 2 couples with a gorgeous view of the water in the backyard and a prime location. The cottage could have been cleaned with more care (we found some dust and hair on some of the surfaces), but overall was quite lovely. The Rockycrest looked like it had seen better days, was located all the way at the back of the property across the street from the main resort, and the advertised kitchen was quite tiny. So your experience really does depend on the accommodation you reserve. The amenities really make this place quite a treat. The pool is heated and has wonderful views of the ocean. There are pickleball/tennis courts. There are lawn games and a volleyball net. There are bikes to ride for free. At night, there is an arcade and candlepin bowling. There are golf courses to play on (for a hefty extra fee) and motor boat rides to reserve (also for an extra fee). There are also daily scheduled events like tie-dye and make-your-own ice cream. We kept ourselves pretty entertained over one weekend here, and it's a fantastic place to bring kids (most of the people we encountered were here with little kids). The restaurant was surprisingly great. We only ate there for one lunch and all enjoyed our meals, particularly the excellent fish and chips. Breakfast is very expensive, so we didn't partake. Service was a little hit or miss. Check-in was very disorganized, but when we called the front desk to bring up extra items, they were accommodating, and all the staff we worked with were very pleasant. I had high expectations: their website and Instagram portrayed a true resort with amenities like a bowling alley, arcade, pool, and polished dining. I booked a Lighthouse Room thinking it would be the highlight of our trip. Unfortunately, what we experienced was not a resort, but a run-down campground with misleading marketing. Check-in & First Impressions From the moment we arrived, the property felt neglected. The reception area had a dead plant shedding all over the carpet, and the staff member checking me in looked unkempt and could not locate my reservation or key at first. There was no warm welcome, no orientation... just a finger pointing down a road. The parking lot greeted us with an overflowing dumpster and swarms of flies. Room Conditions & Safety Concerns Our Lighthouse room (#2) was unsafe and unclean. The card reader on the building was broken, the doorknob to our room was loose, and there was no interior lock. As a single mom traveling with my child, I felt extremely vulnerable. The room itself was dirty: dust and hair on windowsills, bugs on the ceiling, no trash cans, no pillowcases, a sink that barely drained, and bouncy, cheap "campground" beds. Sound traveled so badly through gaps under doors that I could hear neighbors coughing. Service & Dining I had pre-ordered chocolate covered strawberries... instead of the promised "nice handwritten note," they were dropped off with a crumpled Post-it scribble. At dinner, service was poor and the food was low quality... the truffle fries were made with rancid oil. Amenities - Closed & Misrepresented My son was most excited about the bowling alley and arcade. After wandering in the dark trying to find them, my key didn't work and the facilities were locked. Only after repeated calls (with no answer at first) did I learn these amenities are closed Mon-Wed due to staffing. None of this was disclosed on the website nor check in. In reality, many of the "resort" amenities are either unavailable or poorly maintained. Management Response At checkout, I spoke directly with the manager. Instead of empathy or resolution, he brushed off my concerns as "rustic charm" and sorry lack of employees. Rustic charm does not excuse unsafe, dirty rooms and misleading advertising. Despite requesting a partial refund, nothing was offered. Bottom Line & Recommendations Sebasco is not a resort - it is a tired campground charging $300-500/night resort prices. Unless there is a complete overhaul in branding, cleanliness, safety, and employee culture, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Maine has many beautiful, authentic resorts; this is not one of them.

This is a unique and quiet spot with 20 individual cottages/cabins in Freeport, ME established in…read morethe 1930s. It is 6 miles to the center of town. We got to stay in what we were told was the coveted cabin; a cabin that was built from 1 pine tree! Wow! The grounds are spread out and situated in a lovely wooded area. Simple rustic cabins with all the basics needed for a most comfortable stay. Many have fireplaces and wood is provided. Outdoor grill and table. The only downside of the 1pine cabin was the noise heard from the nearby highway, although that pretty much ceased after 12 a.m. We very much enjoyed our stay and learning the history of this establishment. A little off the beaten path which happens to be our preference, yet so convenient to the Freeport hub of activities (and also close to Brunswick and other towns). Staff was friendly and inviting and the price cannot be beat. We plan to stay again and would highly recommend.
