Beware of this property. Ever changing resident property manager, no consistency when it comes to office hours. Poor maintenance of laundry rooms on all buildings. Original elevators from the 70's never upgraded and always breaking down. Surveillance cameras not working. Property needs to be tented because of horrible roach problem. each unit only has one parking stall and the annex parking stalls is now $100 a month. Maintenance fees for two bedroom units for owners is now $700 a month yet nothing to show for. Lots of trespassers on property security has no authority to detain to notify police until they arrive. Barbecue grills are out of order. And there's more. Avoid at all cost. If you are buying a unit. No what your getting into. read more

What can I say that hasn't been said other then you're to follow rules that are not posted anywhere they fine you without warning, pretty sure there is black mold which I'm am getting tested for they make excuses every 3 to 4 months to snoop around your unit calling it "pest control" they hold you to a higher standard then they do themselves. with broken glass that kids can stick their arm through to foundations and gas leaks they kicked out pono security because they were reporting all the issues just to put their private security which is a bunch of disrespectful prison guards at best. read more

Harbor Lights has 352 units and has been improving the property in the recent years post-Covid. The management , security and maintenance are improving and the property management as of 2024 is the real deal. Harbor lights is one of the worst I mean worse places anyone could ever live in Maui Hawaii. The people are rude the place is filled with cockroaches, amongst other bugs. The laundry room barely had working washers and Dryers. The electric is in harbor lights name they have there own meters, so there can do as they please.When it comes to parking your vehicle beware our vehicle has been vandalized 3 times and no cameras saw anything. I mean the security for the exception of a few are horrible and don't do anything for you no matter what. I sincerely say this with all of my being do not rent from anyone at harbor lights, you will be taken advantage of and left with a horrible taste in your mouth. read more

Your experience at Harbor Lights totally depends on your expectations... and the particular floor and building you're occupying. Let's face it, the outside looks hideous and scary. And my understanding is that in the 1990's there were REAL problems. I bought my unit in April 2017 and renovated it. I spent the month of July there and everyone was totally nice and pleasant. My unit is totally new and remodeled and so were many of the ones on my floor---D building, 4th floor. I love hearing the mynah birds "meeting" just before dawn and sunset (they are loud, but I stopped waking up after a couple of days), and I love hearing the children playing on the playground during the day, usually 1-6 pm. It's totally quiet after 8 pm. It's never really loud, in fact. I've never been remotely scared and the security is ever-present and friendly. The office is responsive and courteous. The biggest drawback, IMHO, is that none of the units have lanai/patios, so it's very apartment-y. The complex residents are diverse and from many different countries and economic circumstances. There are lots of families with small children (and the cutest babies ever!). This is not a tourist experience---it's a local experience. And there's no AC. I've seen some gangsta-looking men in the building but when I'm friendly and pleasant they've offered to hold the elevator for me, carry my packages, and have been generally nice. Coming from Los Angeles, it's all a breath of fresh air. I'm sure there are bad eggs in the Harbor Lights basket, but I haven't met them. That said, I'd be sure and tour the unit and floor you're looking at---for example, the other 1/2 of my floor sounds a lot louder than the half I'm on. read more

This place was terrible. I recently moved out and am so much happier now. I rented this place and signed a lease before moving to the island. Big mistake. It's gross in every way. The hallways and elevators are littered daily with rubbish, CHICKEN BONES, & on several occasions urine and blood. Packs of screaming children constantly run around with no adult to be found. Strange and unpleasant odors fill the hallways from various units as they prop their doors opens for air flow. Window AC units are not allowed, it must interfere with the uniform prison look. Lastly and very important. Roaches are rampant in this building. Not in a way like oh it's Hawaii of course there are roaches. But roaches like people went extinct and roaches took over the world. As an update since living here six months: as far as safety goes, this complex is great. I have read many reviews about other complexes where if you are a female you are taking a chance renting by yourself. I feel completely safe here and perhaps it's because of the numerous amount of families that are here. The rating still stays at a one star since management and staff still have really lack luster and rude behavior towards owners and renters along with the still pathetic grounds previously mentioned. read more

Harbor Lights is a large apartment complex fronting Kahului's Harbor Front abutting Maui College's Performing Arts Center & Campus. Harbor Lights is something beyond cheap(er) accommodations & window drapes flapping, it's vintage, of sorts. Yes, Harbor Lights throws its rugged, run-down looking ole' charm in the face of all passers by. Yet for some, like me, owner of 2BR ohana, it's my island retirement pad Un-apologetically --un-touristy. Unpretentious. Harbor Lights is 2mi from the Airport & close to the Queen K Mall, MCC Flea Market, Medical Facilities & Wailuku's Gov't Offices, Iao Valley. I'm grateful for the opportunity to invest in Maui. Though my big Harbor Front unit requires a firm commitment to remodeling, it offers much in exchange: more time for beaching, road trips, local talk story & daily sunrises, sunsets & rainbows in my own place in paradise. This is by far the worst place I have ever lived. If you're an owner maintenance fees alone are over 500$ its borderline health hazard the units are infested with cockroaches no matter what you do they come in from other people's units. The security in this place is a joke when you Drive In and Out of This Place it's never a simple thing. Not only do you have to tell them what color your car is you have to show them everything from driver's license insurance registration stuff that's none of their concern. I have been a tenant here for many, many years, through many ups and downs. And I must say as of 6/6/16, Harbor Lights has sunk to its lowest low. For over 24 hours now, the 2 elevators in Building D have been out of order. One out is nothing new. But never in 16 years, have I seen both working elevators not functioning in a single building. On the 4th floor alone there are several residents confined to wheel chairs. This is a grave health concern! One man with health issues could not return to his 4th floor unit in fear that walking up 4 flights of stairs would trigger his condition and then emts would not be able to remove him from his fourth floor unit. The response to this issue from the office was pathetic and laughable, laughable, if it were not such a serious issue. At a previous point in time, I would recommend this as a place to live. No longer, unless your idea of living in paradise is a living nightmare. read more

This is the most disgusting place I have EVER seen. It is filthy, the stench in the hallways is enough to make you gag. The police are constantly being called for various reasons. I would NEVER suggest that a female (of ANY age) should ever walk around after dark unaccompanied by someone who could protect her. Looking up at windows you will see sheets, towels, newspapers and dirty curtains tied into knots. This is a VERY frightening place!!!! I RAN out of there and wanted to get home to take a shower and erase the thought of ever having been there. Horrible, horrible, horrible!!!!! How do you give a 'minus' star?????
