I…read morerecently had a color matching challenge with the stain for my deck, and Ethan and Claudia rose the occasion in a big way. My deck and fence hadn't been stained for 10 years, the fence was still in good shape, but the deck needed a serious refresher. However, the new shade of stain with the same name made by the same manufacturer wasn't the same as when we last used it - apparently, they changed their formulation from oil to latex - might that be why? Anyway, I pestered the c**p out of Ethan to try to make the colors match, and he gallantly gave it his best effort in a one-hour engagement - where I clearly had worn out my welcome, though he didn't let it show - and got it close, but it still wasn't the same. I went back later on in the day with my wife - the one with the keen eye for colors - and Claudia patiently worked with us to try different shades in different brands. We found one that was closer, but still not a match. But when I mixed a gallon of that with the original 5-gal I started with, it matched very well. Problem solved, and the story comes to an end but for my repeated praise for these two young sales professionals that were clearly well trained and have a bright future ahead of them. Kudos to Ethan and Claudia at the Watertown Ace Hardware store!

On a recent visit to get a battery for the smart key to my car--- Keith offered to install the battery due to the fact it required tiny phillips head screws. No rock salt/ice melt around EXCEPT this very thoughtful place had an employee pick up 3 pallets from their other location (not close.) I stopped counting at 65 people in line (not including the 12+ people who bought plain rock salt.) Employees were very hard working, courteous and I cannot say enough about this place. Whatever you need for your DIY projects, pets, or non-destructive home repair projects. But it also has whimsy, and for me that's the biggest selling point. Outside lining the parking spots are planters with adorably painted barnyard animals. Some are art, like the horse with a whole winter scene painted on. Others are cute, like the pig begging you not to go "bacon" their heart. There's also a propane tank in a gated area, so, you know, watch that. Inside are the tools. There's also a popcorn cart, and stuffed chickens decorating the pet section. One even demonstrates how to use the pet cage.... Or they've been naughty. It's unclear how much a stuffed chicken can ruckus. They even have a stuffed bee advertising the bee care section. There's a Little Free Library by the exit, as well as an epic skeleton! As of this writing, he's showing off their spring outdoor supplies. They also are raising money with a round up program for the Bethlehem Land Trust, and thank people for shopping locals. It's a fantastic store even if you're just running in for a drink! (They sell Coke)

You can truly find everything you need, no matter how obscure that item might seem. From farm animal supplies to power tools, Bethlehem Hardware has it all. And the staff is so knowledgeable and they could not be more helpful. They also support the local community of this small town by participating in local fundraisers and by having a book exchange by the exit door. I can't think of another hardware store which encourages you to grab a free book on your way out the door. Thank you also for having hours which are much more compatible to many people.
