I cannot say enough positive things about a store with a skeleton mascot. Bethlehem Hardware (a…read moreTrue Value) is an amazing store. Yes, it has tools, paint, hardware, supplies.... Whatever you need for your DIY projects, pets, or non-destructive home repair projects. But it also has whimsy, and for me that's the biggest selling point. Outside lining the parking spots are planters with adorably painted barnyard animals. Some are art, like the horse with a whole winter scene painted on. Others are cute, like the pig begging you not to go "bacon" their heart. There's also a propane tank in a gated area, so, you know, watch that. Inside are the tools. There's also a popcorn cart, and stuffed chickens decorating the pet section. One even demonstrates how to use the pet cage.... Or they've been naughty. It's unclear how much a stuffed chicken can ruckus. They even have a stuffed bee advertising the bee care section. There's a Little Free Library by the exit, as well as an epic skeleton! As of this writing, he's showing off their spring outdoor supplies. They also are raising money with a round up program for the Bethlehem Land Trust, and thank people for shopping locals. It's a fantastic store even if you're just running in for a drink! (They sell Coke)

You can truly find everything you need, no matter how obscure that item might seem. From farm animal supplies to power tools, Bethlehem Hardware has it all. And the staff is so knowledgeable and they could not be more helpful. They also support the local community of this small town by participating in local fundraisers and by having a book exchange by the exit door. I can't think of another hardware store which encourages you to grab a free book on your way out the door. Thank you also for having hours which are much more compatible to many people.

Yes, their prices are a little more expensive than some if the big box stores but anytime I've had a question about something I didn't know they've always been able to answer it and/or solve it for me. They do have a good assortment of different items and if they don't have it or have been out of stock they have either ordered it or got it back in stock in a short amount of time. They do have a small parking lot. They're located not far off of route 8. Only about a mile off of the highway. Tis the season upon us for ice and snow, they've always had ice melt in stock when the big box stores have sold out. So don't be to quick to forget about them or discount them. They're a great resource there when you need it. Stop on by. You'll see.

These guys rock. So, naturally, we had a storm in New England and I had already had a small…read moreproject of fixing some steps. As luck would have it, the storm hit, and apparently everyone's steps either broke or decided to get their stairs done as well. Well, naturally, the big box stores were out of the boards I needed and I googled around and found these guys. Well, these guys had the boards but know what they didn't have? Electricity. As luck would have it, the storm hit their area pretty bad and 99% of the city was without power. Fortunately, we figured out the price, I managed to have the cash on me, and we were good to go. When we picked up the boards from the pick up area, they were super cool about even helping us tie them up so they didn't go flying on the way home. Shout out to the nice gentleman that really helped us out. Hopefully I won't need to replace boards that often.. but the next time I need lumber, I'm coming here!

A…read morecouple days later I purchased some more from the Lyon & Billard lumber yard located on W Main St a few hundred yards away ...for less than half the price! I assume there is some niche Country Lumber serves, maybe for commercial, contractual purchasers, or they would not remain in business. But apparently this is not the place to do business if you're an occasional DIY homeowner.
