Harbor Freight has been around for years. They have expanded from the Bay Area (where I first shopped the chain) all the way to Brentwood. The Pittsburg location (in a busy shopping center) was where I shopped for simple, inexpensive tools and tarps. Now, I have closer option in Brentwood which works for me. I only mark them down to 3-star as so much comes from China and is often out of stock. I also don't like fact you have to have their rewards program to get the sale price like a grocery store. read more

The service was awful the clerk at closing was extremely rude I can't believe audacity of her treating customers very unprofessional I felt like she just wanted to go home so she tried booting or kicking customers out but there's a polite way of doing it and she was far and I mean far from polite she don't belong there as a clerk she belongs in the back doing inventory or somewhere that doesn't have to interact with customers!!! DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION!! I have been reading the reviews here on Yelp for this store and I wish I had read them sooner. I go in needing to return an item for my mother. It was a 4 piece set of precision snap ring pliers that my father had needed but didn't work out. As I stand in line there's a Hispanic fellow already being helped by the cashier. I can immediately tell she is being hostile towards him by the look on her face and the way she grabs the receipt for his return and practically throws it at him. He leaves and I go up telling her I have a return. She opens the box and begins looking only to tell me that there are missing pieces. More specifically, certain "clips" that come with the pliers. Mind you, there's nowhere on the box where it says it includes any sort of "clips." The manager, Colby, who had been standing behind her, immediately backs her up claiming they don't take incomplete returns. He's immediately hostile, rude and condescending towards me almost as if I was stealing as he explains. I decide to step outside the store so I can figure out what "clips" they're talking about. I go onto Harbor freights website to double check and make sure they weren't lost or something when opened. It turns out there was never any clips so I decide to go back in there and show them proof of the description I found for that specific item. At this point I'm a little upset with the way they handled the situation and spoke to me in their rude tone. The moment I tell the cashier lady about the proof I had her entire demeanor changed. She was all sweet talk after giving me the most annoyed and bothered look before. Instead of even bothering to assist me when I confronted her about this she immediately calls her manager, Colby, and chooses to hide inside the office. He comes out looking all angry and macho and just as I'm about to explain to him what I told his employee he raises his voice and says "I'm not doing this!" I'm immediately stunned and even angrier. Not only was it very clear this was never about the pliers he chooses to silence me like a child. Once again, I stand my ground and let him know I have proof there's no "clips" and that he should read what the pliers come with to which he refuses over and over again. He proceeds to tell me to get out of "his" store after claiming I'm being violent, loud and assaulting him. Not once did I touch him or make a move to touch him. When I tell him this he shouts something along the lines of "Go ahead! Touch me and let's see how Thanksgiving goes for your family!" To which I was immediately confused. The moment he refused to even read the description of the tools on the website I realized this was simply discrimination. He stood behind his counter and was taller than me by inches and kept threatening me with the police as if that meant something, as if I was supposed to be scared of them. I told him to go ahead knowing I hadn't committed any crime. He decides to turn and walk back into his office and leaves me there. About 5-8 minutes go by and I ask the new cashier assisting the line if she can ask if he called the police or just left to which she tells me he simply called the security of the plaza. In the end, he refused to give me costumer service and not only that but called 4 different guys to assist in the situation as if I was some criminal when in reality it was just me and my 12 year old brother. Reading the yelp reviews now hours later I find out that I'm not the only one who has experienced this type of issue. Harbor Freights needs to fire this manager or something before they continue to lose more costumers at the Century Plaza location! read more

Love shopping at Harbor Freight as it is. This Pittsburgh location is best: it has the widest aisles compared to other location, clean and very inviting. When I went in to buy some tools, they are well prepared for social distancing due to the corona virus. My visit was the day before father's day which was June 15th. I was expecting long lines and a mess but I went in late so I was pleasantly surprised. It was decently organized and I found the two things I needed fairly quickly....a jack and a wrench. I browse the store for around 15-20 mins but no one approached me for assistance. Honestly, I thought there would be coverage but I cannot hold that against the folks who were there. Thats a reflection on how the company allocates hours. I worked retail a decade ago and always wondered why people would take it out on the people who came to work and did their best to help multiple customers. So, I went back to the store in Pittsburg, CA to explain to them that I felt I was over charged. The 1st cashier was polite but, the the store attendant, who checked on the price, didn't understand customer service at all. He said no that's not the price, sometimes people move them and ran off to help someone else. I am not a handy person and needed to ask for help for the simplest thing.. Keep in mind this is the FIRST review I have ever written so it's authentic. Long story short, I asked an employee to assist me with finding a tool to complete a project, he was just taking a shot at suggesting what I needed so couldn't really blame him, he seemed pretty new to the job. Turns out that tool wasn't the right one for the job. I returned for a second time, I was told that someone would meet me in aisle one to assist me. Boom, here comes the manager rushing from the back room. *Hey do you need help? *Yes I do. *Well what is it I have a phone call waiting up front *Sir, this should just take 2min of your time . I tell him what happened with the first item I purchased and how it didn't work out. *Well you need to purchase one of those and points at several different tools, as he's walking away to the "phone call waiting up front" and leaving me confused. * Sir , if I purchase this one will the blade fit ? * I don't know you need to figure it out ! Customer service was crappy and I felt defeated at my project, so I grabbed anything hoping it would work .. As I'm walking out of the store and he had already finished his phone call, I was hoping he would at least check to see if I figured it out or grabbed the right tool... Decent Harbor Freight. The cashiers from my few trips have been very moody and are a little slow in their answers. There isn't tags to all the items and staff is not very helpful. I still enjoy shopping at harbor freight but I would go to other locations if I had a choice. Be sure to check your receipt because not all prices are correct and you might have to point out a sale from the website. Cheap cheap cheap, and not in a good way. I just bought 3 strings of outdoor patio lights, spent about 2 hours securing them to my patio then after screwing in about 40 bulbs or so, was just flat out pissed that all three strands were bad! Only 1 light in 2 strands and 4 lights in the other strand worked. All that work just to have to bring them down to take back. To top it off, when i called Keith, the store manager, he could give two flying F's about my situation. Not one appology, not one "how can we make this right sir?" just Uhu, you have 60 days with a receipt. this is just a reminder of why i dont shop there anymore. Today i came in to the store to purchase a couple of items. I had a questions regarding a discount and they were unfamiliar with their own HFT policy's and The Store Manager Colby got upset that i pulled up the policy and started raising his voice and then tried to flip it on me and stated i was being rude and put my phone in his face when all i did was try to show him the policy on my phone. Another customer in the store then stepped in and stated As a business owner herself she didn't find anything rude with how and what i asked on the other hand she felt it was the other way around that he was being very rude and unprofessional. He then proceeded to dismiss what she had stated and informed her she is no longer welcome in the store . He then proceeded to go into his office and not come back out . So i went to the door and asked if he was going to he able to help me. He stated he has all these things to do now and its basically my fault and this whole time he is raising his voice and I'm telling him why is talking to me like that and he stated he doesn't know if he's going to be able to help and went to take a call in his office and closed the door and didn't come back out. At this point I decided i was going to leave and i can't believe this is how they treat the partner of one of there fellow employees. Like i was in shock at how rude he was and it truly made me wonder how many other customers he might have spoken to like this . It honestly made me feel as if i was being discriminated against as he seemed so angry and aggressive toward both me and the other customer who are both women of color. What Target is to most people, this place is for me. I can't help but purchase things here and it's usually things I don't need! To be frank, I never heard of this place until I needed something that was out of stock at every other auto store. They have things you didn't even realize they had! The return policy is pretty straight forward. I took note of it and was able to return my car ramps just fine. Just as I was about to leave after making a return, I turned around to walk the store. I honestly don't know the organization of the store but I LOVE looking at everything there. Employees are nice and there to help if needed, but you have to go up to them otherwise they won't even speak to you. I own a trailer and this is the place to find trailer accessories that Home Depot, Auto Zone, Walmart, and Lowe's might lack. If you're bored, I know your go to might be Target, Walmart, TJ maxx, Ross, Etc, but try this place! I think it's pretty awesome and inspiring for a new home improvement you haven't yet thought of. read more

I went to this shop few days ago just to shopping around, but ends up bought 3 boxes of 5mil nitrile gloves(100 in a box ) sale for $7.99 per box, because it claims ideal for use with food processing that make me feel should be more safe to use for other things too, so I use it daily almost for everything in the house, I also bought a 2 pack super soft clear coat safe microfiber polishing towels, size:16"x16" for $1.99 plus 4 pairs of good latex coated work gloves which was also $1.99 each, which I most use in gardening, I say they were pretty hardy and Works very well too, from this shopping I received a freebie from the coupons, which was a 4 pack microfiber cleaning cloths 12"x12" in size, I love this tools store, they sale many many tools not just for the professional workers but also for regular daily use and in a pretty fair prices, I also want to mention workers and cashier in the store were all friendly and very kind too, I gave them two thumb up. read more

Great place to buy discount tools. You get what you pay for. So, while the quality is not outstanding, the equipment generally fills the bill and does the job. The only thing I've bought that I was unsatisfied with was a pipe threading kit which worked but didn't have the proper thread pitch that I needed but that was more my fault for not knowing what thread I should have bought.than the product's fault. Haven't had any problem w/the staff. Never tried to return anything, so can't comment on that. However, HR is not Costco and I expect they get a lot of people buying stuff and then trying to return it after using it because they only needed it for 1 job. Have always gotten help directing me to the product I was looking for. Think it's unrealistic to expect the min wage staff to really "know" anything about what they sell. You should know what you want/need before you get there. BTW, Pittsburg is a bring your own bag jurisdiction; have to pay 10 cents if you need one. If you don't have one and don't want to pay for one, you'll need to hand carry your purchases out to your car. read more

This was the fifth time this location has really taken care of me. Three of those times were from Ashley the manager. I've brought an expired coupon on accident, they make great recommendations, and have always been more than accommodating. I'll never go to Walmart or Home Depot again for anything that harbor freight carries. I love this company and this store continues to wow me with service standards and consistent great attitudes. We've been shopping at this location for the last few years. The staff has always been friendly and efficient, the store is always tidy and orderly. However, we experienced very poor customer service yesterday. It took us going into 3 different lines to try process a return (for a $4.00 item). At the first line, the cash register froze so the cashier had to call a store IT number for help. While she was on a lengthy hold, not one word was uttered to suggest we go to another cashier. While she was on the phone the store manager came by, clicked on a few buttons with no luck, and not one word from him to explain what's going on. I asked the cashier if we should move to another line and all she said without eye contact that was she's trying to get help on the phone. By that time it was about 15 mins that passed so I moved to another line. That line was delayed because the customer before me had a coupon issue. By that time it's been nearly 20 mins in the store waiting to make a return. Mind you the store was not all that busy. Another line opened with the store manager at the cash register. He processed the return ... but not one word of apology or an explanation. Had the cashier or the store manager given an apology then it wouldn't have been such a big deal. This experience of poor customer service prompted this review and zero star. read more

Monday my husband and I returned to Harbor Freight to shop. We were greeted in the store as well as an associate ask if they could assist us in locating an item. We were please with our visit and I advised the manager on Tuesday when I returned. The manager responded to my initial visit and I gave the store another chance. If you aren't aware of something how can you fix it? This is why Feedback is a gift and it's directed towards improvements. This also helps to prevent the same problem from occurring in the future. I give three stars because the store was very clean and they have pretty much every tool you will need, however the employees are not all that helpful, on one occasion I received absolutely no help whatsoever and ended up getting what I needed at home Depot on the other occasion I got minimum help, when I asked where something was the employee pointed and mumbled it's on aisle 5, the only reason I found what I was looking for was because a customer saw me looking a little lost and helped me find what I needed. Once I got to the checkout lane the cashier was complaining that she was supposed to have gone on her break 5 minutes ago and that if customers didn't stop coming to her counter she was never going to get a break. Not really what you want to be saying to a customer. She complained about customers during the entire transaction, it really made me feel uncomfortable. My husband and I were recently in the market for a new tool box. We shopped around for a few hours and we were ready to buy one at your location in Pittsburg, CA but we were not able to make the purchase because we were told two managers were needed to open the back. We spoke to Richard (Manager) and he suggested we go back next day before 4pm to be guaranteed purchase of item if it was still in stock. Richard suggested holding if for us since we told him we would not be off until Tuesday to go back in. It was a couple of days so I asked how long he would he hold it for and he said until someone takes our name off of it. He said he had only one in stock so we asked if we could pay for it and them pick it up on Tuesday but he said NO because we needed to pick it up at the time of purchase. We asked him to hold the 72 in. 18 Drawer Glossy Red Industrial Roller Cabinet # 61656 . I felt Richard didn't really want to be bothered getting it out from the back at close to closing time, if 4pm is their policy for customers to be guaranteed to make a large purchase (because they require two managers on site), it's a really good way to lose business. DANGER -- Do not buy the 1.5 amp 3-stage Battery charger 99857 , followed the directions and the battery exploded !!!!!!!! I contacted the store in Pittsburg where I bought it, the manager Richard Lott, asked me to take pictures of the battery and fill out a claims form so he can E-mail to Corp, I also tried to post a review on there web site about the defect & danger of explosion and they took it out ! I am still waiting weeks for a reply from them sent a report to the product safety commission and is on file after that thay contacted me and offerd to pay for the battery I was told this has been recalled and pulled from the shelfs ......I'm glad no one was hurt sure made mess with acid all over the place ..... read more
