My review is for the Berlin,CT Location.
It was during Tropical storm Henri which originally was a category I.
I called early in the morning. 9:01am. I asked about their generators. They told me they had three generators left. I start my drive to the location and when I get there I see three boxes of the 9000 Watt generator and on one of those three boxes there was a guy sitting on the box. We'll come him Chad. When I asked Chad sitting on the box , " are these are purchased" he said that they are and I asked him, "where are the people? Because I see a product and no one standing next to them claiming them and or purchasing them." He shows me a pink POST-IT tells me that if you wanted them, that the staff will give you this post it and that's it, it's yours. But I was confused, I asked him, "How" did these people that I don't see, purchase them? Then a female at the register chimes in who was later Identified as JACKIE the "manager" as posted on her name tag, and says, "they are in the store and shopping" which was a lie. At this point I was willing to accept that. These people paid for it at the register and wanted to go back and get more things. I get it. Possible.
So I went to look at the 4375 watt generators and a guy standing there told me that those are purchased too. Now I'm wondering what system this store is doing because I see a product with NO official store sticker stating, "Sold/Purchased" instead it's a "oh yeah, those are sold. The people are around the store" system. Who knows how truthful that statement is.
So I decided to wait in the store because something was telling me, "this ain't right". Mean while, Chad was STILL sitting on the 9000 watt generator that I was ready to purchase but his pink post-it is more official than the money in my wallet. I knew what he was doing. The staff knew what he was doing but nothing was said. Chad was clearly waiting for someone to come in thats on his team to purchase this product.
30 minutes pass by since I first walked in the store and Chad is still sitting on that box. I was moments away from telling that guy to get off the box or go purchase that generator when his supposed roommate walks into the store and they get in line with this magical post-it.
I remained waiting there and JACKIE THE MANAGER notices me. Keep in mind that I didn't know she was a manager at the time. I tell Jackie what I just witness and how wrong it was. She immediately tells me, "sir he was shopping around the store" (blatant LIE) and immediately tell her that, that's not true because he's been sitting on that box since I arrived AND there's nothing in his hands to tell me that he was actually "shopping".
The two guys that were purchasing it realized that they were being called out for their shadiness and decided to defend themselves by saying, "we live in the same house, we're roommates " in which I told them, "I don't care if you live in the same room. I have a family too... you've been sitting on that box. What makes you a more valued customer than me? If you wanted it, why didn't you purchase it but instead you waited for TOM here to arrive so that TOM can purchase it... that's not right." Chad chimes in with his two useless cents and said, "do you want me to buy it?" In which J replied, "it's too late. You've been sitting on here for Tom to arrive. While ai was ready to purchase it the moment I walked in" ...At this point Jackie was trying to get me out the door which I refused, to get my point across on how wrongly this manager runs this store and this scenario. Jackie was concern about the volume of my voice but cared less about my family that MIGHT have been in need of that Generator just like Tom and Chad. But I started to see the skin tone resemblance and I couldn't help to notice that this could be a case of Racism/ Favortism because if Jackie would have done her job properly.... The best way to run this store on a hot item is, first come/first serves means: come to the register and purchase your item or put the item on a cart and walk the store or bring it up to the register and pay.
At amusement parks, when you stand in a parking lot, does that make that parking space yours because you're holding it for the car to arrive? Ummmm no!
Jackie didn't care what I had to say. She just wanted me out of the store so that she can get back to helping the front end duties. She gave me the "ahhh? Yeah ok sir, just leave" look "so that I can get back to work." And when I was getting ready to leave I wanted her name so that I can make a formal complaint which was done, I was SHOCKED to see "Manager" underneath her name.
This location has AWFUL customer service. Harbor Freight tools have nothing to do with what happened but THIS location, the only way to be heard is to avoid THIS location. So that the owner of this franchise feels it in his pockets and realizes that JACKIE is not the person to care for customers or their concerns. read more
