The amount of care was even in the shipping- each item beautifully wrapped in tissue and they included a lovely thank you note.

O this visit, we went in just to browse with little intent to buy. But we found a perfect memento of this trip, something we actually needed, a new wall clock for my husband's study. It has a topographic map of Woods Hole as the background clock face and has a frame of copper. It was not terribly expensive but is a novelty for our home and seems to be working well. The staff was incredibly informative about current goods from an artist we have bought in the past. There was some very pretty natural themed jewelry that in the past I probably would have purchased but probably do not have a real need now. I did pick up some note cards by a local artist as those are always useful. When we return to Woods Hole in the future we will undoubtedly return to this shop. We always do.

It happened to be one of the days they are normally closed, which we did not know, but the owner was outside in her garden and she was happy to come open up for us and let us browse her yarn selection. My mother and I both found something we couldn't live without (of course!) and the owner didn't mind my kids, who I plopped down by the door with some video games to keep them entertained. The best part was that her prices were much better than the ones around where we live and she said that we can do long distance orders, which is great since we both found some yarn that would be perfect for our next projects but weren't sure how much we would need yet. And before we left someone local who had called in for help with a project happened by, so it was nice to not feel like we had caused her to open up shop only for us. :)

I was a certifiable stalker of Details & Design, weeks before I ever had the chance to visit the…read moreactual store, located in the heart of storybook-pretty Padanaram Village. My pal Tiffani handles the store's social media, keeping its Facebook page and Instagram feed stocked with the most enticing teasers: everything from home decor, to jewelry, to clothing. For me, it was love at first "like." When I visited this past weekend with friends, I knew I'd found in this lovely place a soul mate (an expensive, high maintenance soul mate). The inventory is unfailingly stunning: gorgeous Asha jewelry, Blue Jean candles, vintage Union Jack steamers, luxe fur throws, ridiculously soft cashmere capes, and locally designed, oversized bangles made of braided rope. And even two pieces - a fur tote and a magnifying glass - both boasting seriously grand ivory tusks for handles. One hour in this two-level shop, home to so many beautiful treasures, wasn't enough for us. I don't think a minute passed where at least one of us didn't proclaim our love for some delightful item. Margaret, the owner of D&D, is so welcoming; she chatted with us the entire time. We shared a tin of her lemon drops as we explored the entire space and heard about the many ways she sources her breathtaking selections. It's a small miracle that I was able to walk away with only one item (a vintage gold chain statement necklace), because during my 60 minutes at D&D I easily fell in love, one hundred times over. Locals, rejoice: the store hosts a wine evening on Fridays! Sadly for me, the 45-minute drive from Providence makes it impossible to get there before closing time (sometimes, I think there are guardian angels out there that are saving me from myself). Sip sip sipping, while wallet dip, dip, dipping. What a delightful and dangerous way to end a long work week. Details & Design has been on the scene for nearly a decade; I'm sure that Margaret must have a widespread and enthusiastic following. She now has three more to add to her fan base; with my first purchase last Saturday, I've officially graduated from "stalker" status to loyal customer.

Fast forward a year as we visited from out of town and we brought this back as there was an issue with the item. We were told, "Oh that designer went out of business sorry." After taking the item out we were told to take it to a dry cleaner to fix it. Margaret seems generally happy to make a sale and take your money but God forbid if have an issue with a purchase you don't matter. Hearing from a relative that a friend purchased an item here, had an issue with it, and they were ignored I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment. Good customer involves not only treating someone well during a sale but also during follow up and subsequent visits. EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT MAKING ANOTHER PURCHASE. Shame shame shame...
