I have used Happy 2 Help three times for transport to and from medical procedures, the type where you can't give an exact time when you'll be ready to go home. All three times, the driver arrived at my home a little early, which I appreciate since traffic can be unpredictable. He waited patiently outside my house. He communicated well with the nurse about pick up time, and was there waiting at the curb as expected. He drives carefully and is a pleasure to chat with. I'm writing this review after a long email discussion with Phil, who is the owner of this company and the person who took the phone call which lead to a 1 star review. I used Happy2Help for transportation home after outpatient surgery (as Uber isn't allowed). While I cannot rate their other services, I can confidently say that I believe Happy2Help potentially compromised my safety during discharge, and certainly caused a very stressful discharge for both me and the medical staff. A 1 star review is generous for a process that I firmly believe put me in very real potential danger. When scheduling my pickup I was told by Phil that the process was to have the staff call 30-45 minutes in advance. My discharge nurse told me that she was going to call to give 30 minute notice and spoke to Phil. As it turned out the driver had already arrived and had to leave soon! Of course the driver already being there and having to leave soon directly contradicts what I was told about giving them 30-45 minute notice, so that in itself is terrible communication/mismanagement - and the company did not provide the service I was told I was paying for. I overheard part of the call where my nurse exclaimed loudly and in disbelief "you have to leave!". While I do not know what Phil said (besides what he claims to have said) after the conversation my nurse clearly had the impression that if she did not manage to get me discharged quickly the driver would leave. In my discussion with Phil he claimed that another driver would have been sent if more time was needed, but Phil admitted that he did not communicate this to my nurse - so basically it's a worthless hypothetical claim. So the nurse (who BTW was excellent) tried her best to complete the discharge process (which was supposed to take 30 minutes) in 15 minutes. I could tell she was extremely stressed during this process, and I was stressed as well. Now of course rushing a process is when errors can occur, so Happy2Help created a situation in my safety was potentially compromised by increasing the risk of errors. Phil's response was that the nurse told him the discharge could be done in 15 minutes, but of course this was only because she was under the impression the driver was going to leave if the discharge was not completed quickly! To me, the most damning evidence against Happy2Help is that my nurse criticized them greatly and was in disbelief as to their terrible transport process. If a discharge nurse believes this, would you use this company for post-surgical transport? A nurse has no incentive to criticize a transport company if not warranted. On the other hand, I felt Phil was just doing standard self-serving CYA to protect the reputation of the company he owns from a clearly mismanaged and potentially unsafe transport. Frankly Phil, your company's reputation does richly deserve to take a big hit here. read more

Not too may non-emergency transportation companies are open on the weekend, let a lone a Sunday. I called Phil on a Sunday morning at 7AM to drive us from Escondido to Hacienda Heights. My husband is wheelchair bound and could not get into a car. Phil was very understanding. At 10:30AM Tovar arrived ready to take us home. He made sure we were comfortable. Last minute, out patient surgery, I emailed for a quote Sunday received a response Monday morning, scheduled a ride Monday afternoon for Tuesday surgery. Yes, I was nervous having someone I don't know pick me up and take me home (after being sedated). I read the reviews and spoke to Phil and I felt better. Mondo took me to my appointment and was polite, professional and chatted about San Diego, restaurants and family. Good distraction before the surgery. I was delayed in being released, but Phil understood. Brandon picked me up and was polite, respectful, professional and we talked a little music and family. I had to have an outpatient surgery and I had NO ONE to pick me up from the hospital. Luckily I found Happy2Help on google. I sent them an email and they responded within the hour with a quote. I paid right away via credit and received a receipt. On the day of surgery, my driver called 15 minutes early saying he was downstairs and to take my time coming down. He was very friendly. When we arrived at the surgery center he gave me a business card to give to my nurse. My driver and my nurse were on the phone coordinating my pickup while I was waking up from anesthesia. I had a medical appt that required anesthesia and needed a designated driver. The nurse told me Uber/Lyft or wait it off was not allowed just two days before the appointment. I saw this service and wasn't sure what to expect as 'friendly' San Diegans over use the 5 star rating on Yelp. To my pleasant surprise the service was as described by previous customers. The owner was very friendly and accommodating of my last minute request. The invoicing website was easy to use. It did not have a tip option which was nice since I don't like businesses that ask for tip before you had the service, although it would be nice to be able to add one later/after the fact. The driver was prompt and on time. As soon as I came out of the recovery room the driver was was there. The driver was kind enough to drop by my pharmacy on the way home so I even had all my prescriptions. This was exceptional and personable service that you can only get from a quality small business. I would definitely recommend to friends and I would certainly use again! In fact, I had someone who was able to get me a couple hours later (since it was a workday/weekday), but now that I know these people are professional and after having had such a pleasant & anxiety free experience I would pick this service in lieu of 'phone a friend' again. read more

Just used Happy2Help for the first time this week. Best medical transport I've dealt with for a pickup from an outpatient procedure with sedation. If you've had such procedures, you may know that you can't take Uber/Lyft/taxi home. So if you don't have a friend or relative available to drive you, you need to book medical transport. There are unfortunately few medical transport options in San Diego for such situations. And compared to others I've dealt with, Happy2Help was more reliable, more convenient, and reasonably priced. They get right back to you when you contact them, and they don't lose your reservation or make you wait hours for driver, as has happened to me with some other services. Also, they sent a regular, comfortable car! Some other services send a wheelchair van even for people who don't use wheelchairs (super-pricey, and rather uncomfortable to bounce around on a jump seat in the back when you're coming back from surgery!) All this matters a lot. When you're having a procedure, you're not feeling your best, and the last thing you need is transportation drama. You don't want your procedure cancelled because you couldn't book a ride, you don't want to wake up from sedation and have to argue on the phone with a company that lost your reservation, you don't want to get stranded for hours while they find a driver, and you don't want to bounce all the way home on a jump seat. Props to Happy2Help for providing a much needed, no drama service! read more

Great service! Phil had to transport my father to Yucaipa from San Diego for respite. Yes, that's at least 2 hour drive one way. He didn't leave my father until he's fully checked in at the facility. I cannot recommend this service enough. I was in a bind and needed them and Phil and his crew pulled through. I was getting my wheelchair accessible van that I drive from repaired in Poway and I had the shop take me to the Solano beach transit terminal thinking that would get me to Irvine. Guess again. They are doing rail repair and so they are busing people and I would've needed to have left from Oceanside so I took the Coaster to Oceanside and from there, they told me that the bus was sold out. All night the previous night and for a good part of the day I was trying to get a hold of Amtrak to even get a ticket but their customer service is horrendous. I was in a bind, and they could get me a ticket at 8 PM but once I got to Irvine, then I would've had to figure out how to get home in this public transportation poor area. Phil was able to book me a ride and I didn't have to wait a long time (well, they were coming from down south, and they were about an hour away, but that was unavoidable). I just hung out at Banana Dang Coffee (really cool coffee place if you're in Oceanside). I was let off in front of my house at 5:44 and you cannot beat that. HIGHLY recommended! read more
