Last year I bought another poodle, this time a toy. Since I had two dogs now I wanted to change it up and leave them somewhere different so they could interact with other dogs. I shopped around and found Rutgers Creek. I went out to basically interview the place because I would never leave my dogs with anyone I felt was sketchy. When I got there I met Steve, the owner and Stephanie, his staff. I was able to look around and check out where they would be sleeping, eating and playing. The first thing I noticed is the sleeping area was very clean, This is major to me. My dogs are not only my pets but they are family. They were very professional and made me feel like my babies would be taken very good care of. I only left them there for half of our vacation and had a family member pick them up after a few days. When they were picked up they were clean, did not smell like they've been soaked in urine which I heard from friends who used other kennels, and they were exhausted from all the excitement. I've only boarded them once but because of the positive experience we had here I will definitely bring them back.

(Most businesses do their best to work with the customer, not place blame on the customer.) He is very poorly skilled with dogs like mine (cockapoos with zero matting), and doesn't take responsibility. He flips it to fit his agenda. I just asked for SOME of the fee back , as I did not get what I asked for. He was rude and unreasonable when I addressed this. My matt free dogs looked better before the 7 hour "grooming". I should have taken into account the Google review describing a customers dog leaving Ken's Grooming Post with cuts, scars and bleeding from his skin. According to that review , responsibility wasn't taken in that situation either - the customer was blamed, as I was. (I thought I'd give him a chance- silly me.) Wishing Ken all the best in educating himself for future grooming and better skills with hopefully being kinder in communicating with unhappy clients. It's not always the clients fault. The "professional" can make mistakes, and own them.

At our previous groomer my dog would be shaking so much from nerves that if he shook any harder he would have shaken his skin & fur off his body; poor thing. With Dawg Tales my furry friend comes home "Happy!" The amazing customer service combined with the fact my dog is actually happy when I get him is a true sign that these groomers take special care and treatment of my furry little friend while in their care. Quite a long time for what I had asked for, but I was happy that she was clean. I had called Pet Smart to see what their costs were for a clean and dry and they said $38 or so dollars including a nail clipping and brush. I would expect a mom and pop type place like this to be either cheaper than chain stores or at least match the effort that they put to the dogs for the price. Dawg Tales charged almost $60 and my dog still has long nails and lots of loose fur, even though when I arrived to pick her up she was still being brushed. She is also still wet behind and around her ears. They were sweet, complimented my dog and nicely washed her coat and collar from the mud, which I appreciate. But just a bit overpriced for my taste.

This week we went with a newly adopted dog so we could get her microchipped and have her Rabies vaccine done. For some reason, even though the first shelter the dog was in had "spayed female" on the paperwork, the lack of a spay date made the person signing in our dog suspect that she was not spayed. Do yourself a big favor and bring in spay documents if you have them. If you look at our dog's abdomen, there is a spay scar. We had to have bloodwork done to the tune of $40 because they did not want to give her a rabies vaccine because there was no date of a heartworm test on the shelter paperwork either. The shelter had the dog on heart-worm preventative and flea and tick meds. We needed a form filled out so we could apply for a Lifetime PA dog license since she was now microchipped. This was a $15 fee but it saved us gas and a trip to our vet which I guess is fair but it literally took two minutes to fill out. I did end up paying close to $300 for everything. Finally, I had to wait several minutes to get the rabies certificate filled out. During that time I noticed a board with rebate information. I was surprised that the clerk who we paid made absolutely no mention of the rebate I could request for the flea and tick meds we purchased. What surprised me even more is that when I went on line to do the rebate, T.A.R.A. was not on the list of participating veterinarians who sell the product. I had to add them on manually. All this being said, the veterinarian and the tech who took care of our dog was very nice.
