The problem started when he made a mistake with our order and instead of owning it, he insisted he was right, made us feel like we were the ones who were confused, and charged us extra to fix HIS mistake. I was never refunded for that charge. It wasn't about the money, it was about how uncomfortable and frustrating the whole situation was. He only admitted he was wrong after we explained it several times, but even then he acted like it was somehow our fault. There was no apology or real attempt to make things right. I was just visiting the city, and I can honestly say I would never come back. I would avoid this place if I were you. I came here to have a good experience and the server simply ruined it. I asked for the Alaska roll which comes with salmon. When my order arrived it wasn't the Alaska roll, I asked the server and he "no, it is trust me, the Alaska doesn't come with salmon." Horrible service, gross food handling, and unauthorized charges! I placed a pickup order 20 minutes in advance, and 10 minutes later I got a text saying it was ready. When I arrived, the restaurant was completely empty. Despite being the only customer, the front staff asked for my name----three separate times, making me sit down and wait each time while my order was supposedly already finished. I only get a 30-minute lunch break, and I wasted 20 minutes standing there with zero updates or communication while the staff just chatted and took their sweet time. What made it infinitely worse was watching the person cutting fish openly sneeze directly over the fish while laughing with the front-of-house staff. They didn't change gloves, didn't wash their hands, wiped their nose right on their shirt sleeve, and kept cutting raw fish. It was completely unsanitary and repulsive. To top it off, I requested extra ginger and cucumber on the side for my baked salmon roll, assuming they would tell me if there was an additional fee. Instead, two hours after leaving, I noticed an extra charge hit my card without my authorization or consent. If I had been told it cost extra, I would have gladly declined it. Just because it's the slow season in Palm Springs doesn't mean you can treat the locals who live and work here with zero respect or basic courtesy. This place has seriously fallen off. This place is fabulous! No matter what time I come in, the service is fast and fresh and delicious. Get the truffle salmon sashimi as soon as you walk in. You will want to take a bath in that delicious truffle sauce. The baked salmon roll is delicious. Just a little bit of spice mixed with the eel sauce gives that pop of flavor. We mention the Diet Coke and the cooling rice. He takes the rice back and says he has no idea why his colleague brought it out before the food. Ten mins go by. One sashimi arrives. We wait five mins. The waiter brings the rice. Five more mins. No sign of the other sashimi. We flag the waiter down and he checks. The original waiter only placed an order for ONE sashimi. The second waiter places the order for the second sashimi, He says he's put it in as a rush order and it's on the way. Ten more mins go by. I tell my husband to eat. Ten more mins. I have been coming to happy sushi for over five years. I am a local. I love coming here and I love their Palm Springs roll and their hot sake. However, today I was having lunch and there was a cockroach on the floor. I notified the staff and they said that the owner has Pest Control and there's nothing they can do about it as it's in their walls and It's in their ceiling. They're everywhere but they're not "food or in the drinks". I showed my server and he did nothing to accommodate me and just went on to explain that this is normal. Ordered nigiri and the fish was sub-par, pre-frozen not fresh, and the only good nigiri was the squid and they added some spicy gunk on top that ruined it. The service was horrible - grumpy, grumbly staff (not the sushi chef) and then was presented with the bill on a tablet with giant TIP boxes that had the lowest option of 18%. And the order was to-go. This restaurant should be called Horrible Sushi.. 1. The bathroom was very unsanitary and dirty, it smelled like new bleach chemicals and poop. 2. We got seated and brought water, one of my kids water cup was leaking a lot and had a hole on the bottom and once they were noticed, we didn't get another to replace it 3. We ordered a few stuff (party of 8) but ended up with only half of our order, assuming they forgot all about it. Pretty sure our server didn't write our order and had to go back to the kitchen to be reminded what was what on there menu. We reminded them that our order did not come completely and they said "I know", yet they didn't do anything. When they bring the check, it also included the food we ordered but they didn't serve. We had to tell them to remove those items . 4. Our server never checked in on us or anything, only when we called. 5. One of my kids ordered miso soup and their meat was very much uncooked. Another was very burnt 6. There were ants and bugs on the floor 100% would not recommend. We also got scammed as parties of 5 and above have to pay extra.
