This is a great place for authentic and unpretentious Italian street food in Warwick. Owners Gigi and Giusy specialise in Puccia bread, from the southern Italian region of Apulia. It looks like a round ciabatta, but inside the crusty shell the texture is soft and sponge-like and almost melts into the sandwich filling when you take a bite.
I had the pancetta puccia (there are no less than 14 varieties) which was filled with pillowy mozzarella, tasty dried tomato chunks, and enough delicious freshly-sliced pancetta to coat my entire vascular system with pork fat (aka flavour!). I followed that up with a cappuccino and not one but two desserts.
White chocolate cheesecake with strawberry topping: light and fluffy filling, only as sweet as it needed to be. I wasn't sure about the base - I think it was made from puffed grain, which was more chewy than crunchy. I was sent on my way with a complementary tiramisu (because Giusy is awesome!).
The location is great: they have natural light from three directions which makes for a uniquely pleasant ambiance. This is emphasised by the light colour of the flooring and surfaces, which also means you can clearly see how clean the place is.
I sat facing the window, and noticed the establishment across the street offers (threatens?) something called "fat freezing"..! ("If you can squeeze it, we can freeze it")
Whatever hellish spa-for-the-damned that is, thank goodness for Happy Puccia - a haven where you can treat yourself right! read more
