The first time I came here (Sept 7th) I asked for ombré green nails. I picked out a color. They told us to take a pic of the color and number so I showed her that too. I told them the shape and showed the reference photo. She had told me the dip powder would be best to create the desired design so I agreed. I like dip powder :) Her application was good overall and it came out pretty spot on other than the fact that she didn't use the color I picked out and just did the reference. I had read previous reviews before coming here so I was scared to correct her. Came out nice, a little lumpy, but it lasted a whole month with no breakage. This was all on my natural nail too! My second visit was a month later (Oct 6th) with a different girl. My nails from the first visit had grown out, but all intact. I asked for an ombré again with the same green I asked for previously, but with white tips and asked for the same natural shape I had previously. The green ended up being really white and light. You can't see green at all. The nail tech mentioned it after applying the first nail, but I kind of had hope it would darken. It didn't. That one was on me, but also it looks nothing like what I picked out? This set came out way lumpier than my first visit. You can tell in the photo if you look closely, but I could feel it. Also it came out pretty square and that combined with the lumps made it 10x worse for my hand shape. This set also broke my nails down bad. Didn't last as long as my first visit. Anyway, this place isn't absolutely terrible, but I always came out feeling meh because it was never what I really asked for. Second visit was definitely worse though. Under my nails always felt crusty as well as along the sides. I don't know how my service would've changed had I corrected anything, but based on previous reviews, I wasn't willing to risk it. I went and got my nails done here by one of the guys. he was super nice and fast, but didn't really clean up the dip around my nails and didn't cut/shape my nails before he started the dip. Thankfully my nails weren't too long but it still would have been nice to get a trim and shape done. I will say though they haven't cracked yet and it's been 3 or so weeks! read more

After I had already made an appointment for three pedicures, I read the reviews which aren't good. I decided to still try it. The bad reviews are definitely real. It's the least enjoyable pedi I've ever had. To start off, the water was cold for all of us. I kept telling them and they acted like I was just being picky. They finally poured hot water in from a coffee pot. By that time, they took my feet out to work on them. It was very quick with very little massaging. All three girls talked to each other the whole time, instead of interacting with us. I always take my own polish so I can touch up later if needed. Apparently, the gal put my polish on my lap when I wasn't looking without me knowing. When I got up it fell to the floor and broke. They never apologized or offered to replace it. went here today for a pedicure and it was the worst one I have ever receive. the guy that done my pedicure was so concerned ab answering the phone and doing other things that he got up many times during my pedicure to do those things. i did not get everything that was listed under the pedicure. They'll say anything to book an appointment , anything but the truth. We chose this place because they promised they could accommodate 5 of us at the same time for manis and pedis. Nope. Started with one, then two if us. In the end, we had to sit around and wait for each other. Also, I asked for GEL OR LCN fills and I got acrylic with a gel topcoat. I told them that is not gel and they lied to my face like I'm an idiot. I didn't want to make a scene as we were there for a nice experience for my daughters wedding. Absolutely the most rude people I've ever met. I got acrylic set done not even two full weeks ago. A nail broke I went to have it fixed and now 2 days later another nail broke. They use cheap product and refuse a refund when it's not been two full weeks. They need to be shut down and they need to refund for their mistakes. No one wants to go back to the place that messed up their nails to get them "fixed" also they have a sign in system that keeps track of your services but no one tells you to sign in or what it's even for. I traveled to Iowa from New York to visit family. My Mom brought me to Happy Nails. The salon is clean but the staff is rude and talked excessively, non-stop, as soon as we were seated in their native tongue. The girl that did my pedicure was ok but cut my toe with clippers. Unbelievably rude. I walked in with two friends. Two shellac manicures and I needed dip powder taken off. We waited an hour and a half to have one of us serviced. The swatch was a completely different color and when our friend brought this up to the tech they became extremely rude and complacent. Not only had they already made her pay, but I had to take my own dip nails off because they left the acetone on so long. I finally found my favorite Des Moines nail technician! They have a great shellac selection. She has shaped them the best and the polish was perfect compared to other places. I feel like anywhere else I've been I've been worried wondering if they were gonna turn out good. Usually it's okay, the shape looks good and I get my hopes up, and then they get the polish done and it looks messed up. She spent so much time, fixed two of my nails, did three coats which I liked, gave me the longest hand massage and I even got a back massage! She didn't charge me anything extra which I was expecting for the acrylic she put on the broken ones and the extra coat because usually they only do two. If I could give zero stars I would. It was an absolute terrible experience from the get-go. When I first walked in I was barely even greeted and when I went to go pick out a color the girl stood over my shoulder glaring at me the whole time. It was so bad I contemplated leaving but I was there with a few friends and figured we should stay because we had an appointment and it was just right. After I finally picked out a color I went and sat down waiting for them to tell me what chair to sit in for my pedicure, A woman from the back called up to me clear from the front to come back with her to sit down. When I first sat down I started to put my feet in the water and is way too hot and I was told multiple times to put my feet in and I let them know multiple times that it was way too hot. It finally cooled down enough for me to finally use my feet in but they still never put any cool water in. Then when it got to the massage part of the pedicure my nail tech started using her nails and dug in while giving me a massage and that hurt so bad. And the few times that I winced she finally would ease up because I think she realized that's what it was but she didn't ease up on the nails. Then when it came to the hot towels they were also quite warm but they were tolerable but it definitely could've been cooler normally when you go to put hot towels on somebody you cool them off a little bit before putting them straight on. I am an aesthetician so I deal with hot towels all the time. After that she didn't even let the hot towel sit on for more than a minute and took them straight off and then went in with the hot stones. She didn't even let the stones cool off straight from the crockpot. I had to pull my leg completely away from her grasp to get her to stop. And she didn't even cool down the second one after me already having to pull my leg completely away. I still have a mark. Then when it came to the painting part she used her nails to scrape around my toes to get any paint off of my skin and when she did that I felt like I was getting cut by a knife. So bad to the point that it also left a mark. And the paint job wasn't that great either. And it was all fine I didn't even say anything until it came to the time to pay I walked out paying $130 for a horrible pedicure. I will never return and I will tell anybody that ever plans to go there my experience. This place should be shut down. read more

I used to LOVE going to happy nails. They always got what I wanted for nails correct but I was there last weekend and after my mani/pedi noticed I had some bumps on my legs. I'm a licensed cosmetologist and know that this has come from unsanitary products. They also used "cheese graters" on the pedis on either side of me which are NOT compliant with state law! I went in to get a full set put on Emily was my nail tech, she was very rude and crabby with me even though I was very polite, I told her very nicely that two of the nails she glues on were crooked like 4 minutes after she glued them on, she yanked one of them off the pain was a 10 my finger was beet red, hurt so bad it put tears in my eyes, most people would of walked out but I stayed and took the abuse which I regret doing and I still tipped her 5.00 even though she didn't deserve it!!! its wierd because she was nice to me the last time I was there, apparently she was in a really bad mood that day, but why would you take it out on the customers? I walked in and was impressed. There was a check in with iPad and a gentleman was there to greet me right away. I waited maybe 5 minutes before getting dip powder on my finger nails. The nail lady maybe said 5 words to me, which is okay bc I'd rather have nice nails than talk about nonsense. Then my experience changed. Worst service ever! Where should I begin... I came here because they have shellac color match. The first time I came they had me pick the color, did my pedicure and then told me they didn't have enough of the perfect match to do my manicure!! What?! Worst experience I have ever had at a nail salon was out of town for a family wedding and a cousin had recommended the place, prices were silly. higher than what they advise which I was gonna look past, my sister had her 2 year old in his stroller(strapped in behaving very well for 2 years old)he was just talking to his self and laughing , what most 2 year olds do, perfectly fine. We were getting pedicures and had one of the employees walk up and tell us that if "he continues to miss behave we're going to have to leave after our pedicure" I was very pissed off because for one I have been in many nail salons in my life and I have never have someone say something like that and two he wasn't doing anything wrong or bad. My sister had let it go because we were in such a rush. My nephew had dropped his blanket and the same man had walked over, purposely walked over, at this time between this man and the lady's doing the pedicure talking about the situation we had began to leave, he had said that there is a no children policy which is no where you can see in the salon. After my first visit getting a fill in a full set that I didn't really like from a previous manicurist Luanh made them look amazing, the color didn't last too long, but that's pretty standard, but otherwise she fixed the shape and made them look much more feminine and natural. However after my visit today with EMILY I just don't know if I can give them my business again. She was AWFUL mannered and rude. I am from Denver and in town for a small hiatus and it's been a rough couple months so I began treating myself to going to the nail salon again since I've been back. In CO I have worked in the Medical Marijuana industry for five years and although I was in the upper level positions, I was always around it and my things and I still smell like it..I've just barely got my things unpacked and have been mega stressed and didn't need to be picked on with her personal opinions. Well she must have noticed a slight smell and asked"You smoke?' and when I admitted I had and do she balked at me - LOUD, sniffed her nose rudely throughout the entire manicure, asked where I work and when I said I had recently lost my job she laughed rudely less than a foot from my face. She proceeded to question where I lived since I don't work. I admitted to a total stranger that I had to temporarily move home due to circumstance which I'm not fond of myself and she said, "ohhhh of cooooourse you did." Then, "so you'll just be heading home after this I guess?" I had just cried for 30 minutes in the car prior to going in because I got some more bad news so I told her that maybe also why she was referring to (my red puffy eyes??) Regardless her attitude, I paid for a full mani rather than basic and she gave me none of the additional services included in the price. The woman next to me was started to receive a full mani on accident after I clearly heard her no thank you and as she was putting on the lotion, I mentioned I didn't get any lotion or extras - completely ignored and silence. When I offered to pay her prior to painting she said "Ohhh it's $25 something." She didn't listen to my shape request during the entire session and I reminded her by asking politely, "almond please" just two nails in to avoid hating them and she kept doing her own thing and they're way too short and basic round and totally not my style; no uniqueness or anything special about them and all while done in angst. She offered me Shellac like usual and huffed when I said no and hassled me even though it's not because of the money why I don't get it, I don't because I just don't like it. Then she looks at my face funny and says I need my eyebrows done, said no thanks I was growing them out and I just pluck because I'm sensitive to cheap nail salon wax and explained this to her too trying to get her to lighten up. She continued to SIGH LOUDLY and REPEATEDLY, she handled my hands aggressively, made smart alec rude comments, and second guessed everything including my nail polish choice and said it was the exact same color I was taking off (hot pink vs OPI Cajun Shrimp aka Coral?!) and why do you care? Some women paint their nails only one color every time. EMILY is just plain rude and judgmental and is not "happy." Since she refused to give me a total for the services and tossed my change at me I also tossed it in my purse and was going to decide by the end of drying time if I was to tip her. She was aggressive with picking up and setting down my purse and did not acknowledge me besides belittling me and being an angry elf. I continued to try to upsell myself the whole time like I should even have to and said I have a college degree and just lost my job I worked in for five years out there, I told her my lease ended the same time so it was misfortune and bad timing that's all. When asked if I was going home after leaving there and replying I take care of my nephew in the afternoons to redeem my character she acted as though I was unfit to do so. This was the WORST experience I have ever had...and not just her refusal to do what I asked, but because I was harassed and judged the entire time and it was not relaxing at all. I'd say overall still try out the shop, but beware EMILY hates "smokers" and is not afraid to be rude and give horrible service and quality and show you she despises you. Keep it up Luanh, you're great. EMILY, you should look for a new profession or not be so close minded and if you don't agree with my lifestyle, keep that to yourself and do what you're paid to do. I couldn't help but be a little smart back and laugh at her rude comments and shake my head after them. but that didn't phase her - she never looked at me once besides seeing Miss Fuzzy Brows and out of all the times getting my nails professionally done (hundreds), she was by far the worst. I was in in Sunday with a friend and my niece and wow I usually laugh and have a good time with the people there I had some lady at booth 8 and she was so rude talking and way she did my nails she put two in they where not even touching my real nail at all I told her and she kept huffing at me I had to say it like three times! Then I said I wanted them shirt and she gave her option when I ALWAYS get the the same way so I know how it goes I pay for them and I should get them how I want! So I just got so upset I quit chiming in cause my niece was there having a great time for her first time I didn't want her seeing a bad nail tech! She the. I went to Happy Nails for the first time today because I have heard okay things about them but I was not impressed! First off, when I was sat down I had to wait 20 mins until I was helped (but I'm okay with waiting, I get being busy). But I had to use the restroom in the time frame I was waiting so I had gone to the restr and when I came back, another customer was sitting in my spot (because a worker told her too) even though my belongings were there! Once I made a comment that I was sitting there already, the worker got frustrated and started helping me. I had accidentally forgotten what number of nail polish I had picked and the lady was not happy about it. Once I figured it out and we had gotten things situated, I had changed my mind (which if I'm gonna pay $40 for, I think is totally fine). She was not happy. The rest of the time she sped through my nails, did a poor job, and wasn't super nice. I still gave her a tip and am gonna have to deal with my nails the way they are cause I'm not gonna go spend another $40 on nails, but just a heads up to everyone out there!! read more
