100% vegan sushi burritos. Located on a quaint street in the heart of Brighton, this unique eatery offers healthy, hand held plant based meals, perfect for folks on the go. Their menu includes a variety of futomaki (fat or large sushi) rolls, with fillings ranging from mock meats to fresh vegetables to sweet potato wedges. You can add your choice of house made sauce, and wasabi or ginger if you like. The rolls are all priced around £7 and make for a very satisfying meal. They have a few side dishes like inari (tofu rice pockets), and tasty drink options like tea and milkshakes as well.
The interior is clean and modern, with pleasant lighting and comfortable wood tables. The place is small, but there is additional seating downstairs allowing for about 10-15 people. I stopped in just before dinner time, and was warmly greeted by the ladies working. I got the Hoisin "Duck" roll, which was tasty and filling. The mock duck was chewy and meaty, with a subtle sweetness that was balanced by the tangy sauce. The bell pepper and cucumber tasted fresh, and they did not skimp on the avocado. I also enjoyed the "Popcorn Cauliflower", which was a surprisingly large portion for the price. The lightly breaded and fried florets fully absorbed the creamy chipotle sauce drizzled on top. A truly delicious and affordable meal.
I would recommend Happy Maki to anyone, regardless of whether or not they are vegetarian/vegan. read more
