First time at Murphy's Mountain Grill in downtown Evergreen, and the INS and the OUTS burger was my…read morefavorite bite. It was juicy, rich, and beefy, on a soft toasted bun with American cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and Murph sauce. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. The team told us everything on the menu is made in house, even the sauces, and you can taste it in everything we tried. The wings were tender, sweet, and sticky with a spicy kick, so I'd order the burger and wings together. The ahi wonton tacos had a crunchy tortilla, fresh tuna, a sesame crust, and creamy guacamole. For drinks, the Black Lavender was the better of the two I tried, and the Mandarin Fashion was fine. We sat inside, and it's cozy in that classic mountain restaurant way. The service was lovely and everyone was very hospitable. It's right on Bear Creek and a perfect stop after a hike, for lunch or brunch, or on an Evergreen day trip.

Everything about our experience was okay. On a holiday, either places are busy or dead. This time they were busy! No problem, we waited by the creek until our table was ready. Inside they have a pool table, neon signs, and string lights. All signs of a good dive bar. Beer and wings was the move. When is it not for someone like me?! $18 for a dozen wings. I ordered the spicy buffalo garlic. They weren't spicy and weren't all that garlicky. Sauce was okay, didn't taste homemade. It was average, but you know what that's okay. I was listening to a good band and looking out at the creek! This place has been kicking for decades in the heart of Evergreen and I hope they don't go anywhere. Would I drive out of my way? Definitely not. But it doesn't mean that I wouldn't stop in again if I were in the area. Like it or not, Cactus Jack's is the epitome of a small mountain town establishment!
