Ordered delivery from here for the first time, and it will be my go-to Chinese food place from now on. Finally Chinese take out that's tasty and not greasy, good value (you get a lot for each dish!), and plenty of vegan/vegetarian options. Best lo mein I've had in a while, and even the fries (yes I ordered fries from a Chinese place) were good. Also the food arrived exactly on time, and I appreciated the restaurant calling ahead to verify my address and delivery preference. I'm giving 4 stars because I've only tried a few dishes so far but may bump my rating up to 5 if their other options are as good. I ordered from the web app which worked very well, my lo mein was piping hot, ready and paid for when I arrived. It was good. Perfect for my hunger level at the time. Food is very average. The one reason we went there is they had a special family meal and a coupon to get a free General Tso's meal if you spend more than $30.00 (and the family meal is 34) For the past year about once a month we've done this deal. Today, for no real reason, they decided not to honor it. Which is crummy because now we don't have the main item we wanted in the meal and they were incredibly rude about how it was presented. They just kept saying "look at the menu" when I tried to tell them that we had ordered it time and time again. There are a million average Chinese joints in the area. I'd rather find one that treats me decently. For the cost of one order of General Tsos they lost us as customers. Hope it was worth it. read more

I actually really like this spot. I've had tons of terrible Chinese food in my life and this is not one of them. Every time I've ordered from here it's been fresh, hot and super delicious. My favorite is the wonton soup. The chicken wings are SO GOOD like how do they do it? The fried dumplings? Out of this world. The little donuts? Wow. My only gripe is that the general tso is not spicy enough for my liking. And that the homemade iced tea kinda tastes like the plastic container they leave it in. Unfortunately it appears that Happy Garden recently changed owners. I stopped in recently to pickup and order and didn't recognize the staff that had always been there. The new workers seemed nice enough thought. When I got home the first thing that jumped at me was that the portions were significantly smaller than they used to be. Everything was always so stuffed they could barely get the containers closed. My order of soup was 7/8 full at best. The Hot & Sour soup was kind of bland and was mostly broth. It was kind of upsetting. The Beef & Broccoli and pork fried rice were just OK. I may wait a few months and give Happy Garden another try to see if the new ownership gets over the early hiccups and can turn things around. For now though they've lost my business and I'm searching for a new Chinese takeout restaurant. read more

Favorite place to take out in the area! I get General Tso's chicken here at least once a week. It's always fresh and delicious! They make it easy by allowing you to order online. I have watched the quality change significantly over the years with multiple owners. Today's dinner was good enough to make me write a current review. Wonton soup a tad oily, but really good flavor and never mushy noodles. Nice ginger pork filling. Veggie soup had nice depth of flavor, lots of broccoli and various veggies. General Tso chicken was good. Not the best, but far from the worst. Pretty oily as is expected in a deep fried dish, good overall flavor. Chicken with black bean sauce (ordered with less oil) Was exceptional! Very tender chicken, just the right balance of flavors. This will be my go to dish. Fried rice had the good char flavor from a well used seasoned wok, the rice was just a tad soft, but still very good My order was ready in 15 minutes. No complaints at all Granted they can be inconsistent, and perhaps many issues with delivery. But when they are on... it's real good :-) read more

( We ordered the chicken with mixed veggies, wonton soup, dumplings, fried shrimp, and chicken fried rice. Everything was amazing, however, I was disappointed with the fried rice. It consisted of only rice and chicken. I have to say, after many years of patronizing this place, we have made our final trip. It has been questionable over the last year, but tonight's experience put the final nail in the coffin. The food was horrible, to the point my dog (100 lbs. plus) had a hard time chewing on it. My son and I used to kill their dinner specials, tonight I had to go out for takeout from another store. What a shame, Oreland had a nice thing there for a while. The only reason they get one star is they answered the phone when I called in the order. Having just relocated to the suburbs from the city, our expectations for good delivery food are low. But Happy Garden was solid enough that we will definitely order from them again. We ordered online and the delivery showed up about 5 minutes EARLIER than predicted. The food was hot and for the most part, good. We were fans of the egg drop soup, the hot and sour soup and the steamed pork dumplings. The Ho Fun noodles with beef and snow peas were very good. The only disappointment was the lemon chicken. First, my son really wanted orange chicken, but it wasn't on the menu - so we settled for lemon chicken. The portion was good, the lemon sauce was sweet, but the chicken itself fell a little flat - the batter was thick and a bit uncooked on the inside. So we won't order that again - but everything else? Also the last time I went there I parked in their parking lot which isn't too big and as soon as I came out I had a $35 violation ticket for parking in their parking lot where hello from eating you think it would be allowed. I've been going to happy garden for the past six or seven years since I moved here. I've had many friends and relatives say that the Chinese food here is great compared to where they live. I'm pretty sure its still the same family that runs the business but the father has retired and is not there anymore.I really believe the food is fantastic and the quality is still the same as it always has been. I think their service has suffered a little bit, it seems to take a lot longer to get my food..they will tell you 20 minutes but then sometimes it takes 40. but I believe this is because they are busy. this is not a place to sit down and eat and bring a family. They do have a few tables but its basically a take out place..I recommend giving them a call. I think they have the best chicken lomein as compared to a handful of other places I've been to. A friend of mine always says he needs to take this Chinese food to the place where he lives and let them taste it. Lol. they always say 15 or 20 minutes but give them 30 to 45 before u show up. I think they only messed my order up one time in 6 years..and I probably go there twice a month. read more

I've always liked their food but I wonder if they brought in a new chef. Tonight I ordered sesame chicken and it was too spicy for me to eat. Admittedly, I have a very low tolerance for hot peppers, but even my husband (who eats hot, hot, hot foods) admitted that on a scale of 1 to 5, my dish was a 2.5. I'm a long time Oreland resident and have given them my business through multiple owners. Sadly, the food quality has been slipping and the last delivery experience was unforgivable. I was told delivery would be 30 mins. After 45, I called and was told they didn't know where the delivery was but that it would definitely be here soon. After an hour, I called again and was told (curtly) that it was on the way. At the 1 hour and 15 minute mark, I called a 3rd time and told them to cancel it. They were pretty rude about it as though it was my fault. I ordered a pizza from Mr P's in Flourtown. 20 mins later, the delivery shows up from Happy Garden. I told the driver I had canceled the order. He glared at me and left. No explanation. No apology. Between the lesser quality and the inexcusable rudeness, I will not be back. read more

I thought I would give this a shot and ordered some Mongolian beef and wonton soup. The wonton broth was ok but the wontons were hard and tough to chew like they weren't fully cooked. And the Mongolian beef was disgusting and mushy. The single worst Chinese meal I have ever eaten. And that's including Chinese stands in a mall food court. read more

Though this restaurant is not necessarily my favorite for Chinese, they work through Grub Hub and take paypal and so I have ordered from here in the past. Tonight while working on a paper that is killing me, I put in a quick order for food at 8:15. Grub hub indicated that it should arrive around 9:05. It is now 10 pm and my food has not arrived! A few minutes ago, I looked up the phone number for the restaurant, and tried to make a call to find out the status of my food, but apparently, I was too close to their closing time and no one has been answering.
