I really wanted to like this place despite the lukewarm reviews. I was a bit concerned that my order number was nine. And even more concerned when I walked in at 6:30 pm and found the restaurant pretty much empty. They had one pick up order in addition to mine. But what cinched the one star review was the quality of the food. Completely missed the mark for me on so many levels. I went to First garden Chinese restaurant yesterday and ordered the dinner combination platter I was supposed to have bourbon chicken, broccoli, brown rice, and vegetable eggroll when I came home it didn't look like bourbon chicken it looked like they gave me some mystery meat that was very unidentifiable to me I will never be coming back here and I would never recommend anyone else to come here. For fast food-style Chinese, it is very good. We've ordered for years and liked almost everything we get. We did not care for their version of Hot & Sour Soup. The two reasons I give 4 not 5 stars is that times given re pickup or delivery are almost always off, I don't leave the house to pick up the food until the time that they said my order would be ready. I drive there. Then I still wait 10-15 minutes. Of course, if they get the order ready on time, it sits because I've been trained to add 10-20 minutes to what they tell me. On busy nights it can be much longer than that. The second concern is that orders are often missing the "extras". Our last two orders with combinations lacked the egg rolls,, for example. read more

They also clearly work very hard--as you can see them at work if you are there The negatives: nothing ever is ready/delivered when they say it will be, and we have had items missing from our order several times. First Garden is great at making tasty tofu dishes and have brown rice as an option. Been ordering from them for years! The service can be slow and they rely on delivery from outside delivery services. I walked into the restaurant to place my order. I was the only person in there. I ordered 6 items, one at a time. When I got home, I found that the employee had given and charged me for two items that I did not order. She also neglected to give me 1 item that I did order. Not bad for takeout. I did find a piece of paper in my hot and sour soup, but the soup did taste good. Judging by the paper, it seemed to be a food label of some sort. The food is not greasy, which is a huge plus. Got mei fun, which usually is greasy elsewhere. Fried rice seemed perfectly moist. Despite the piece of paper in my soup, I'd probably still go back. Giving a 3 star mostly because of their order online/paying with credit issue. So you can place an order online which is great, very convenient. They give you the option to pay with credit, awesome. During the ordering process, there is no prompt to provide payment info. When you receive the confirmation email, at the bottom it says "Please pay with cash or credit card when you pick up or receive the delivery" which implies that they'll arrive with a way to accept your card. Only the delivery guy arrives expecting cash. So you end up needing to call the restaurant anyway to give payment info! What's the point of ordering online if you can't pay with credit.. and if you say you accept credit for online orders, then find a way to do so! Anyway, the Chicken Mei Fun was fine, not bad not great... just good. My husband's review of his General Tso is "Yea it was good." So the food is pretty standard, what you would expect.. but if you place an order online make sure you have cash! read more

This place gave me food poisoning. The day before, Saturday, all I had was a home-made lunch I always make myself that is all cold fresh ingredients, no lettuce, and I ate from this place at 10 pm. The doc says that's the only possibility to where it came from due to the time frame. I just spent 5 hours in the ER at Abington getting pumped with 3 liters of saline, extreme body chills, a high fever, and I could barely walk. I am not an out of shape person and am on occasion on my feet for 14-16 hour work days, so it's hard to get me down to that level. I'm 28 and and my resting heart rate walking in was over 140, more than double what it usually is. They were either watching me for a heart attack or a system shut down. Their food this time was different than I've ever had it. The pork fried rice was dry. I ate sweet and sour chicken, but only a few pieces as it was soggy this time. It was late. I was hungry after being at work. No one else had the chicken, so i'm sure that's what did it. I felt funny a few hours later, but the full effect didn't hit until I woke up morning. Not sure why it was so wrong this time. We're tempted to have them reimburse my $450 bill. I'm losing a day and a half of work over this on top of that. I'm not going there any more. read more

This place was awful. Ordered for delivery. They answered the phone with a simple "hello" I had to ask if this was China Delight. The Szechuan beef had no taste at all. This is our standard place for Chinese delivery. The food always arrives hot and the people are friendly. The food is standard chinese fare. If you go inside for pick up, notice the drawings that line the walls. The owner's elementary age son is quite the artist and he can often be seen drawing in the restaurant. I don't normally write reviews but I felt as this deserved one. I won't be coming back here again. Not just 1 but 4 items out of the 6 we ordered tasted weird and not like normal. The chicken noodle soup had no flavor, the egg roll and beef sticks tasted nothing like they should, sweet and sour chicken was funky too. I will not be surprised if my entire family gets food poisoning tonight. The staff is rude. Their customer service doesn't even deserve 1 star. The lady who took my order over the phone says "uh huh" only and that's it. When I came to pick up my order not one of the three people working acknowledged me until another person came through the door. This must been under new management AGAIN since I came here last, and certainly not for the better! The women behind the counter was extremely rude to me and when she gave me my food, it was the wrong order. I told her I had ordered something else and her response was " cant you just eat it ". I told her I didn't care for that dish and she gives me a nasty look -clearly annoyed that she had to make a new dish. I should add that I was only one in restaurant at time so it wasn't busy. I try this place once a year or every time they change owners/management. Every time I am disappointed. I only try based on convince, but this was probably my last time. The lunch special is mostly rice and you don't get a choice of soup egg roll or soda like most other local places. The sauce is too thick because of the corn starch. Szechuan beef wasn't even spicy nor is the General Tso. What's with the 3-star rating? I love this place. We have been going there for years and think it has the best lo mein, mei fun, won ton soup, egg rolls and beef szechuan. The "spicy" food is not spicy at all, but they would probably make it spicier if I asked them to. Make sure you look at the coupons to see what free dishes you're eligible for with your order. I used to live across the street, so I would get take out 2 or 3 times a month. I guess I'm biased, but their chicken and beef with broccoli was the best I've had from any place, and their pizza rolls are a fun treat every once in a while too.
