I looked at the sign placed on the sidewalk and it offers cooking classes. Cool! What drew me in was a pasta dryer. It was red and translucent. It looked cool. I walked in. There is a little ramp for those who may need a wheelchair to enter and exit the store. Perhaps I had luck on my side. I didn't have anyone asking whether I needed assistance. I like self-discovery when I have nothing in mind to shop for. A female staffer was assisting two other female customers. Judging from their conversation, they would be going at it for a while. One of them was awfully specific about the types of mini bowls that she had in mind. I was correct. They were still talking by the time I had completed by browsing excursion in this store. This store is more on the higher end of kitchen appliances and accessories. If you're looking for higher quality items, you want to shop here. I have a few examples. I found a stainless steel poacher for eggs. I frankly don't think that you need to get one for $15, but you can if you're dying to own one. I found a rather fancy-looking carbonation machine. It made my SodaStream machine that I love look like a toy. I love Le Creuset. It is truly an investment when you are buying pieces, so I don't own a lot of items. I normally hit an outlet or wait for a sale. This place had a silicone brush for basting turkeys or applying egg wash to your pastries before shoving them into the oven. It felt good in my hand until I saw that it was $25. Really? The cooking classes seem to happen at the back. There is a kitchen, but it had so many products around the cooking area that was obviously dormant. It was odd to me. You'd have to take all your products off before you have your cooking class. It seemed like a lot of work. Perhaps there's another kitchen area in the back that I wasn't aware of. Who knows? It was nice browsing around this store. I liked looking at the covered shopping carts. I grew up with a foldable metal one with two wheels. It was bigger that the ones offered here, but I like how your items are protected from the elements. The designed looked nice compared to my boxy ones that I've owned over the years when I didn't have a car and needed to walk to the supermarket down the street. I have worked in housewares stores before and can tell you their prices, quality and variety are excellent. You can focus on being the serious kitchen foodie with black and stainless steel but if you like cute, right now there is a great variety of kitchen accessories with the theme of donuts and owls. Not together (see photos) but I love that the whimsical and/or colourful foodie is also included when it comes to variety and choice. I may go back for the donut sugar jar which was just $7.99. I am hoping they will start selling marble boards for the chocolate making enthusiast like I want to be but that is very niche so I do not hold it agains them that they had dozens of wooden cutting boards but no marble. Going to this place makes me very happy. It is incredible to see how it has grown, changed and even improved over the years. Now that I am back living in Toronto I will be going back as a regular customer and not just stopping by for a foodie momento of my trip back home. All the wares are reasonably priced, you may need to ask for help to find what you are looking for. Cookware galore, pots, pans, tea apparatus, metal dinnerware, and... a selection of spice boxes! I had heard rave reviews for their Bathurst Street location, but this was closer for me. I've been twice now, and each time there are a few employees working, but they don't seem particularly helpful. The first time, after standing at the cash register and waiting for quite some time while the cashier was busy typing away, I asked her about the knives, and she said that the display case was unlocked and to go check each knife for the price. As soon as I open one of the display cases, another employee comes over to assist me. It's just a bit odd that the cashier didn't let the other employee know that I was interested in the knives or tell me to ask the other employee for assistance. On the second visit, after wandering the store and finding what I needed, I went to the cash register to pay. Except that I'm left standing there while the cashier walks off with no explanation. She finally comes back so that I can pay for my items.  The only good thing about the store is that George Brown students get 20% off.

Had I of know they were helping a customer somewhere else in the store. I would have waited patiently. Looking at some other very similar reviews, it looks to be a pattern of poor and rude behaviour from the owner. This is too bad, because the store itself has wonderful products.
