The last night there I decided to read through it, thinking to myself that we needed to make another trip through Tennessee to hit all of these cool places. Some we have already been to, but wouldn't mind going again. My husband being a HUGE Johnny Cash fan, I suggested we make a detour on our way home, just to fit Storytellers Hideaway Farm in. We were NOT disappointed. We both thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the house and the barn with all sorts of memorabilia. The highlight of the experience was the music and camaraderie with Johnny Cash's nephew, Mark Alan Cash. We could sit there and listen to him all day. We loved listening to the stories from his personal experiences with his uncle. If we ever get the chance to come back through here, we definitely will.

The museum and grounds include significant Americana, Johny Cash, Elvis, and a painting featuring Bob Dylan. Clean. Well cared for and presented. Loved it. We arrived on a quiet fall day, out of season and couldn't promise the same experience for others. There is a gathering area to enjoy music performances in the summer months that wasn't open. There wasn't any food sold and I'm unaware if guests can bring any snacks to the events.

Located about 40 minutes outside of Nashville in Adams, Tennessee the Bell Witch Cave and Farm opens itself to visitors in the weeks leading up to Halloween. My friends and I planned to come on a Saturday afternoon in late October (on a good weather day). You cannot reserve tickets in advance, but tickets are easy to buy onsite and even though it was at its busiest of the day, we waited at most 15 minutes for our tour to start. We did a combined cabin tour and cave tour for $23 (and they take Apple Pay!) There is also a farm tour available and a play on the Bell Witch, but they are offered less frequently and didn't work out for our timing (would have required us to wait around for a couple of hours after the cave tour and we wanted to grab dinner instead.) There are light beverages (dirty sodas) and a taco food truck onsite and a few snacks in the gift shop, but otherwise eating options are pretty slim and this is in somewhat of a remote area, so there's not a ton nearby. Parking is free onsite. The cabin tour (30 min) was quite underwhelming to us. The cabin is a replica of the real one, which is located nearby but not onsite, and it feels like there is just not much to see or explore. Our tour guide was not very engaging for the history stuff and felt like a memorized, monotonous script. Our tour group for this was also very large so it didn't offer many opportunities for questions. I think they could really do with updating what they share in this part of the tour because it's tourists intro to the lore and fell quite flat, didn't even mention the connection between the Bell Witch and the cave we'd explore next, which felt like a real miss. The cave was much better and cooler but still had some hiccups. The cave (also 30 min) is made up of two rooms and due to limitations in how many people can go in at one time, we had to wait for two groups ahead of us (about 20 min) before being allowed to go inside. The walkway to the cave is very short distance wise but quite steep and in general this would not be appropriate for folks who are handicapped, extremely claustrophobic, or extremely tall as there are some really low ceilings. Our tour guide for this was better than the cabin but it still really feels like they need to enrich their tour material and history. The cave is cool, about 60 degrees inside but I felt very comfortable with no jacket. There are some wet spots and some of the rocks are slippery so wear sturdy shoes and clothes you don't mind getting a little bit of clay from the rocks on. I get claustrophobic very easily but this was very doable for me, helped by the fact that I am quite short so the lie ceilings didn't bother me much. There was one part I needed to enlist my friend's help to climb up (short legs) into the last room but it was quite doable even if you're not fit. The fave itself is so cool and felt worth the trip. The climb back up the hill after the cave had me a little out of breath so we chilled in the gift shop and looked around a bit. Overall I'm glad I did this, and would come back again maybe to see the play but wouldn't go out of my way if I weren't local.

If you want a good workout in nature that isn't too daunting, this is the place to come. When I was a little girl, there were no formal, well-kept trails at this park and the cave, 8 miles in length and #280 on the list of the world's largest cave systems, was closed. So, imagine my delight when I discovered the cave is now open for tours. The guided tours are an hour and change and worth the $18/person. You only go into the cave about 1/4 mile and there are two guides with you along the way. The day I took the tour, we had Marley as our lead guide. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the cave drawings and very entertaining in her presentation delivery. The 20-person group I was with were all listening intently and laughing along to some of her light-hearted jokes. The tour is great for children over 4 and not dangerous, but you do need good shoes and a strong flashlight. As for the trails in the park, they can be challenging depending on the direction you go, the shape you're in and whether you're hiking or trail running. At one section, the trail leads you out into a beautiful field that is especially green and luscious during the summer. It can get super toasty in the sun, so bring water and sunscreen. I highly recommend you visit this park and if you're into caves and history, do consider the tour. You won't be disappointed.
