Wonderful! Our last morning here and had the egg and bacon roll. It was so good! Wish I had tried it earlier. I would definitely come back!

The food was absolutely delicious! My porridge was so hearty and yummy, I wanted to lick the bowl. My spouse's eggs benedict dish was also fantastic, and you can tell they use very fresh, high quality ingredients. The way they serve the meals in little stainless steel lunch boxes is adorable. My chai tea latte with oat milk was fantastically spicy and not too sweet. The server was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and always nearby, so it was easy to ask for our check when we were ready. And the inside of the restaurant had a warm, cozy feel. I would gladly eat every breakfast here the next time we're in Edinburgh!

When it came to ordering, I got an Iced Latte and a Buttery Bap. The menu is a bit difficult to decipher, as it was confusing how much or how little can be added to it and at what cost. The menu said I could only pick one filling, but when I asked I was informed that I could pick an unlimited amount. I'm glad I trusted my instinct and went with just two: Veggie Haggis and Tattie Scones. Both of these were truly delicious. However, there was an extra charge for the second filling. Prices for additions are listed at the bottom of the menu as if they were sides you could order separately. On the receipt, I also saw that I was charged 0.50 extra for ice. I don't understand why places charge extra to make an iced drink when overall you're actually getting less of the drink. Overall, everything tasted good and I'm glad I was able to try numerous Scottish classics.

We clearly didn't plan things out well, as we had to scramble to hit stops 6 and 7 within an hour of closing, on our last full day in Edinburgh. But, in our defense, coffee shops close up super early in Edinburgh! We hustled our way from the Mile towards Cairngorm, side-stepping tourists and hurrying across intersections. On a normal day, it would've been a nice jaunt through town, but on this day, it was a hectic seemingly-longer-than-it-should-have-been-half-sprint to the front door. I did love the feel of this shop, from the steps leading down to the cozy interior and the bags of spent coffee bean lining the ceiling. The girl working that day was very nice and welcoming. We placed our order and settled into a small table near the back of the building. I kept an eye on the barista (hubby's back was to the counter) so that I could pop up to grab our drinks when they were ready, but she brought them to us, instead. She saw our Disloyal 7 cards out on the table, and said, "Be sure to bring that by before you leave so that I can stamp them!" The lattes were good, with a nice, rich and creamy flavor. I think I could've ended our night here, wrapped up in the warmth of a good latte and a comfortable chair, but my husband pointed out that we had time to get to the final stop on our list, if we hurried. So, we went up to the counter and had the barista stamp their slice, and then hurried once more into the cold Edinburgh dusk.

If you're going to give somewhere your lunch time custom on a daily basis, then the place has got to be a cut above, because there's nothing more disappointing than having had a stressful morning and looking forward to your lunch, then being sorely underwhelmed by your first ravenous chomp into a panini lacking in flavour or with not quite enough salad leaves. With Herbie, thankfully, you can buy your favourite lunchtime creation, safe in the knowledge it'll definitely rank highly on the tastiness scale. There is an ace choice of daily soups on offer, more than usual for a sandwich shop I would say, plus there's a super range of panini combinations, and other breads and fillings to select from.

The fresh sandwiches do seem very tempting, I must say. I think it's the little things that make the difference: big selection of soups (at least four per day, sometimes 6!), home-made bread, Lurpak butter for spreading, Fresh orange juice, Maple syrup latte coffee... Of course, consistently high quality of the provided food as well is highly appreciated. No surprise I'm regular there!!! Give it a go and I bet you will enjoy it!

The sammiches come on a big, soft, delicious roll. And they're filled with a generous portion of pulled pork. You get to customize them a little bit by selecting your bread, the size of the sammich, the stuffing (sage and onion or the homemade haggis), and a variety of spreads (apple, homemade mustard mayo, homemade chili cheese, and homemade chili jam). My wife got the sage & onion, and I opted for a haggis filling. We both very much enjoyed our rolls. They were very filling, and the staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. The haggis was unique, but we are very familiar with pulled pork sammiches back home. We really enjoyed our meal and would definitely recommend Oink to any hungry travelers in Edinburgh.

There is usually a line outside this simple restaurant but possibly due to the light rain, the line was fairly short when I went. I only waited for like 5 minutes. The menu is simple as the roasted hog/pig is the only thing on the menu. You can choose a few things to customize the sandwich or even order it in a box. I ordered the Oink size (medium) on wheat bread and chose sage and onion for my topping and then the Homemade Mustard Mayo for the sauce. They make it in front of you and it is fresh and very tasty. Unfortunately when I went they were out of cracklings. They wrap it in foil and hand it to you. Pretty simple and efficient. I love that the outside of the building is painted pink like a pig (coincidence? Probably not). This is a good place to try for a quick, cheap and yummy sandwich. They do this one thing very well.
