Great tasting pizza, prepared promptly for pick-up. We had the vegetarian with added avocado.

I ordered a custom specialty pizza online for delivery, and the ETA was 1 hour and 15 minutes. The pizza arrived on time, but it was the wrong pizza, it was a plain pepperoni pizza. I called Hank's to let them know I received the wrong pizza, and they said they would call me back in a few minutes because the driver may have given me the wrong order. About 5 minutes later, I got a call back and they informed me that they had made a mistake and prepared the wrong pizza. They said they could make the correct pizza for me but it would be about an hour and a half due to how busy they were. I told them that was too long of a wait and that I would just accept the pepperoni pizza and asked that they refund me the difference in cost between the specialty pizza I customized and a plain pepperoni pizza. I was told they were unable to issue refunds. So... I waited for the pizza I paid for. An hour and a half later the driver arrived with the pizza, but before handing it to me, he told me the restaurant asked him to get the other pizza, the wrong one, back. So I went and fetched the pizza that had been opened and sitting in my house for an hour and a half and handed it back to the driver. This is a huge service failure. You have a customer who is willing to accept the wrong order because you made a mistake but you refuse to refund the difference paid, ultimately making them wait 3 hrs before they received their dinner. And it's nasty to think someone is going to eat pizza that was sitting in someone else's house for 90 minutes. I wont be ordering from Hank's again. I'll stick with Plank 47 Pizza or Fat Tomato. read more

Hank's Pizza is a pretty regular stop for me after a bike ride on The strand. They consistently serve one of the best pizzas west of the 405. Carolyn is at the front counter lately, and is really a doll. Very nice and considerate order taker indeed. read more

Hanks was good...along time ago. Too many inconsistencies with service and pizza quality. Salad was horrible. The only guy at the front counter gives off a "whatever dude" type of customer service. Placed an order for a pizza- the wait time was almost hitting 1 hour and the dough was uneven and crust was wack. Won't be coming back. Poor service, quality and atmosphere. read more

Hanks Pizza continues t be our favorite go-to place for pizza. We moved here in 1996 and it's still our favorite. Last night we ordered a pepperoni (1/2) and ground beef (1/2), both with basil. Absolutely amazing! I saw vegetable soup,on the menu and thought it would be nice to try for lunch today. My guy LOVES it! We had our order delivered and the delivery guy was nice and professional. Hanks is mostly a take out or delivery establishment. However, there is a table inside and there may be a patio table outside. We highly recommend Hanks! The service totally sucks! We literally just walked in this place since we always work in the area and figured we give it a try! We always talked about stopping by and finally did and wow we totally regret it the Dude just had a total attitude not sure his name or anything but its the guy with a beard... we walked in around 1:30 and asked about the lunch on the run. We asked if it was available and he replied with it's on the menu isn't it like a smart ass and proceeded to ask the cook I believe if they had any pizza slices available with a total smart ass attitude and said i don't even know why I'm asking if we do ! I've lived in Playa Del Rey most of my life. I need to give a shout out to Mikey and his posse at Hank's. They fed me and kept me alive for a long time. Everything on their menu is top notch. Also their delivery time is fast and they don't gouge you on delivery fee. In short...Hank's deserves 10 stars. read more

My friend had the most horrific experience at Hank's Pizza recently. We're all locals and we love it there. Love their veggie soup and the pizza. Hank's is a Playa staple. That's why this is even more disappointing. While eating their Chinese chicken salad, my friend bit into a metal wire tie. It cut the roof of her mouth, and since sustaining this oral injury, it has resulted in recurring infections and multiple rounds of antibiotics. After this event happened, we walked back to the restaurant, and the acting manager was very nonchalant in handling the issue, almost being dismissive towards us and what we showed him. He literally responded with "oh, that's weird." and then proceeded to just throw the wire tie in the trash. He did not seem shocked or apologetic. He begrudgingly gave us a refund for the salad only at first, then after we pushed the issue, eventually the entire order, which in my opinion should have been the first response, and then said "well you guys are going to eat their rest of the food anyway, right?" and didn't really seem to care. Make sure to sift through your salad or suffer the same fate. read more

Never knew about this location until my hubby's son took us by. I must admit, he has fabulous taste. This location is prompt, efficient and very tasty. The pizza was magnificently hot. I mean I couldn't hold the box on my lap without putting something under it. When your pizza is prepared, you better believe it's fresh. A cob salad was ordered along with the pizza. It was amazing as well. Generous amount and colorful. Fresh avocado, crispy bacon and the cheese was amazing. It's spots like these that make me ask myself, "why bother with the popular spot that hold commercials when places like this is beyond compare?" Perfect spot for pizza. Parking can be a bit tough due to limited spots but your allow to park in the online pickup areas. read more

Good for a decent bite of Italian food. Individual pizzas are a good size for one. The antipasto salad is packed with meats. The meatball sandwich is loaded, I actually needed a fork and knife to manage it. Parking is on the street or in a small parking area in the back. There are a couple of tables inside and a couple outside. It can get pretty busy, so if you're looking for take-away, I'd call ahead or order online. read more

So I use to live near here way back in the late 70s to early 80s when I went to college at LMU ( Loyola Marymount University). And it's nice and amazing that it's still here AND just as important the food is just so darn tasty. The people behind the counter have always been nice and the atmosphere has that laid back beach life feel while still getting your food to you in a timely manor. The only thing that has really changed that I can tell is that back when I was in college - Hank's was open 24 hours. After all these years Hank's still has my favorite Italian sausage sandwich that I ever had at any restaurant so far. I've traveled across the US and back several times and have eaten at so many Italian restaurants I couldn't remember them all ( love Italian food ) What makes the Italian sandwich here so awesome - start with the bread - it's has a nice crispy exterior but a soft interior. The tomato sauce has a nice complex but not overwhelming Italian seasoning sauce and a bit of sweetness from the tomatoes. The Italian sausage is of the sweet or some call it mild but it marries up with the red sauce that is perfect. It is finished of with a big helping of Italian cheese with mozzarella being the primary component. One other minor thing has changed back in the day - they use to add one or two Pepperoncini peppers on top of all that delicious cheese. I'm getting hungry for one now - unfortunately I now live in Northern California so I can't go here as often as I would like - but usually find a way to stop by when I'm in the area - in fact will go out of my way just to grab something to eat. The place is cute and does have some seating inside and out - but the beach is just a few blocks away - it's much better to get it to go and head out to the beach - and if they don't have something you want to drink at Hanks - it is right by a small market with more choices for your instant picnic at the beach. read more

This place is great for quick Italian food, that isn't a traditional sit-down restaurant; although there is some seating inside and out. They have a surprising amount of options for a small place. I kind of laugh at the idea of people getting upset over night service, when it's a hole-in-the-wall place and you shouldn't expect white glove service. Even I made that mistake, when ordering from here, during the pandemic a few years ago, there was a very nice old man who had delivered the food. I wish I'd given the driver from Hank's Pizza a larger tip. It's not easy for a small business to provide personal delivery to everyone, with warm and cold meals that are hard to transport in a car. I've seen a lot of city or airport workers eat here, late at night too. They seem very appreciative of the service and food availability when other places are closed. Anyway, I live in the area and had the option of buying from Bay Cities Deli in Santa Monica or Sorrento's Market in Culver City and chose Hank's instead to support local and also try out their Prosciutto sandwich which I thought was just as good or better than the other places; even though those places focus on making sandwiches, while this places does warm dishes and things like pizza instead. Don't go to Subway, get a real Italian sandwich here instead. You spend the same or a little less. I was impressed with the size of the Dinner Ravioli. It was clearly enough for two people and for $16.75! They even give you a generous salad, you can split and enough French bread for 2 people to dip into the sauce when you eat the ravioli. Being on a budget, if you're a college student doing a date night, live in the neighborhood and don't want to pay prices at the expensive Italian places at the beach, which I've eat at too, then this is a great option. I also like that they offer Chocolate Mousse Cake and Tiramisu; two things I usually order from Whole Foods. But it's nice they offer it as desserts, for less than WF and for a tiny place. I also love the movie decor when you walk inside. Feels like the place should be used in a small location shoot or something. The older man who delivered the food today was very kind! Not bad pizza and not bad wings. Got a large cheese pie and a meat lovers. I found the cheese on the pizza's a little bland, but the sauce has surprisingly robust flavor. The toppings on the meat lovers pie were very generous and flavorful. The wings were plump and fresh, but not very crispy. For the price of the food here, you can't beat this place. My fridge is full of pizza and I'm happy to say it's delicious heated up the next day. read more

Pretty standard, cozy, local neighborhood pizza spot. We ordered delivery from Hank's while staying in for the evening, and just watching movies so wanted something that suited the mood. Hank's was located super close by to where we were staying so we figured it would be a great try. Delivery itself was very easy. It took about maybe 20 or so minutes for our food to arrive, which was pretty good considering the time it takes to make a pizza and commuted to us. - deluxe pizza pepperoni, sausage, onion, bell pepper, black olive, mushroom, extra cheese - white pizza Alfredo sauce, garlic, onion, chicken Both pizzas came well loaded with toppings. The deluxe was a classic and was tasty and the white pizza was a unique twist that I enjoyed. perhaps the only thing that really threw me off was that the pizzas were quite oily - a bit more oily than I would have liked - but for some reason I still found myself eating multiple slices. I want to be kind... and I really like the vibe of this little hole in the wall in Playa Del Rey. But I lived in Italy for 3 years and my question is: why can't anyone make a pizza like in Italy??? The crust isn't bad, a little too thick but crispy edges. The tomato sauce.... is too sweet! Maybe they think, like many Americans, that you need to add sugar to the sauce to cut the acidity. Not if you use San Marzano tomatoes! I ordered one cheese and one margherita (spelled the American way, Margarita). There wasnt much difference between the two except for a little basil on the margherita. The cheese was just globbed on. That's not how you do it, guys. So for me, this isn't pizza - it's an American bread product with cheese. But for those who have never had real pizza, it probably tastes great. Gets good reviews. read more
