Best gym in Houston bar none!! It's an old-school no-frills gym, and best of all they have heavy bags for kickboxing/boxing training.

Toilet paper everywhere and overall woman leaving behind items in lockers and on the floors. This is very disappointing because I have been to $10 a month gyms that have been cleaner than this gym so Idk if this on the guests or staff, but if wasn't for this gym would be 5 stars. I hope this gets resolved because I wouldn't trust using and bathing in the woman's locker room.

I like the stair masters because they are all working. However, they are lined up in front of a beautiful picturesque window. While stepping on the machine, I see the top of the windows. The worse part of exercise in front of a TV, my face is less than 3 feet from the TV monitor. What the hell? I don't want to get a tan while working on my legs. It's hot as is. The gym was closed from September 30th to October 19th, 2025. When it opened on October 20th, there were not many people for about a week. Now, it's very crowded. I had been going to the Dairy Ashford location and the park for my daily exercise during this time. Because it's a 24 hour gym, it doesn't mean it's a bus station or travel center for everyone to take shower and sleep here at night. I noticed a man on his wheelchair always parked next to the first row of treadmills. OMG. I had to walk around the mirror pillar to pass that point with incoming traffic. Sometimes, other spaces are taken because they put too many machines between the pillars. Management, it's either ask the man to sleep somewhere else, go home or remove one treadmill. He is there every night I workout after 11 pm. Not sure if he lives there or waiting for his ride to finish working out or whatever excuse it is. I wasn't too concerned at first. But it's getting annoyed. I have seen other homeless people visiting the gym before. They don't bother other people but their stink cause a lot of anxiety in the locker room. Well... rant over.

Just recently visited the Lifetime location located inside the Houston Galleria Mall and to start I…read morewill say the location is not the easiest to find. To find it the quickest way is to input 5100 W Alabama St in your GPS where it will take you to the Orange Garage of the Galleria. From there you'll eventually start to see barely visible signage directing you where to park (Level 3). The official name of this location is Lifetime Galleria Tennis and it's considered a Diamond Level location. I called ahead of time to see if they had other gym amenities besides the tennis courts and they said they do have a workout area with weights and cardio machines but it's not at the same capacity as a traditional Lifetime gym. I decided to check it out anyway and the facility is about 90% tennis courts and 10% workout floor. The workout floor is extremely limited. There's only a few machines for lifting, I think I counted 4 treadmills and 4 stair masters. I was surprised at how small the place was. But the tennis courts are massive. I think this used to be owned by a different gym and rebranded into a Lifetime Fitness because I know for a fact this location hasn't been here for that long. I'm a bit disappointed on the upkeep of the facility. It doesn't feel like a Lifetime Fitness, it feels like an old dungeon. The renovations that were made to turn this place into a Lifetime Fitness seem very sloppy. There is no pool. No studios for workout classes. But there is a LifeCafe. If you just want to play tennis it's a decent place. But my first impressions weren't great. For $279 a month, I don't think this is worth labeling as a Diamond Level location. The staff is very friendly though, I'll give them that.

This is a great neighborhood YMCA with a good variety of amenities and classes. One of the biggest…read morehighlights is the outdoor pool, which is heated during the winter and stays open year-round unless temperatures drop below freezing. The pool also has a 9-foot deep end and a few lap lanes. One downside is there's very little shade around the pool area. Inside, there are free weights and cardio areas, basketball courts, TRX setup, and several group fitness rooms offering classes like yoga, pilates, Zumba, pickleball, and other fitness programs. The instructors and staff have always been very friendly and welcoming. The men's and women's locker rooms also include a steam sauna and hot tub, which are nice amenities. However, the steam saunas are frequently closed or broken for maintenance, so I'd recommend calling ahead to confirm what's currently working before visiting. Another downside is that the lockers require you to bring your own lock--they do not have built-in combination locks like many newer gyms. They offer memberships for different age groups, and another huge plus is the free covered parking garage. However, during weekday evenings (around 6 p.m.), the garage can get pretty full due to after-work crowds and youth programs. I've been a YMCA member for several years and would definitely recommend this location.

I also like the weight room as it has an impressive selection of smith machines and cardio equipment such as the treadmills which have fans incorporated into their machines. There are 3 things I have noticed that I don't like: 1. the weight room doesn't have a bench that allows you to do workouts in declined mode and the staff wouldn't let me donate a commercial bench with that option. so Declined DB or BB press cannot be done which is strange as it is offered at most corporate gyms. 2. DB selections for the most common weights sets such as 10-25 lb are lacking with only 1 set of DB weights per designated weight for a gym that might have 15 people working out in free weight room (the very least offer *3 sets of 12 lb dumbbells). 3. the men's locker rooms wooden benches and the three leather seats by the tv are stinky dirty and we know this bc every-time I placed my towel on the seats or the bench to change out of my clothes; this foul smell is left on the towel. The smell is so potent that it transfers to my gym bag like trash left out on the sun for several days and I find myself having to wash the towel and the gym bag just to get the homeless stench off. I have learned to avoid the men's locker room like a plague and instead use the lockers found across the gym to put my belongings.

Since I mapped it out beforehand, I knew where to park and how to get to the gym. This was a fairly large shopping area, but EQX was right there, and the desk is there in front once you enter. There was a really nice girl this day with long braids, and she directed me upstairs to the locker room and informed me that parking validation was not necessary at this time; the gate just went up as you pulled up to it. Perfect! After going upstairs, I did wander around and then a trainer directed me over to the locker room, which was spacious and very clean. The fitness floor is on the second, and as soon as I found the treadmills, I knew where I belonged. Light movement in the stretching area after, and then back to a shower with decent water pressure. What I was fascinated with was how friendly staff was. Trainers actually smiled and said goodbye which you won't normally see in California or New York. I certainly wasn't at home! Compared to other locations, this one was very low-key, although I admit I came during the afternoon where it was probably quieter. I had forgotten this is the location that I was in contact with back in 2020 when I had ordered some masks from their shop since they were actually open. I had such a good experience that the trip here to see them in person was worth it!
