I have to…read moreadmit, I was extremely nervous to walk in to a crossfit box that I thought would be filled with insanely "ripped" athletes and feeling like I would stand out as an out of shape mess! I was always the girl in the zumba or spin class, I didn't think I'd be able to handle crossfit. I have to say that my experience was completely not what I expected! The members are at all different levels and even shapes and sizes! It also helps that not only the staff but also the members are super friendly! Everyone made me feel very comfortable and even gave me some motivation. We started off with the intro-course and after 2 weeks were ready for the "real thing"! The intro course was great. The instructor took their time to explain the movements, how the classes work and educate us on the CrossFit lingo! Not everyone walks in knowing what a "WoD" means! (workout of day) I've had a good routine of about 3-4 visits to Clutch a week for about 4 months now and the results have been amazing. I am lifting weights I'd never thought I lift. I'm pushing my body to a level that I never thought I could achieve. All with the help of the amazing coaches and great members. Not only did I completely change the way I exercise, I also had the chance to join a Paleo challenge with some of the members and completely change the way I eat. I'm down 25 pounds so far and feel better than I have in a long time. I'm so glad I didn't chicken out and walked into Clutch Crossfit. As a new transplant to Houston, not only did I find an amazing way to improve on my over all health and fitness, I also made a good group of friends. I'm happy to say that I now have a place in Houston that people know my name and I look forward to spending time there.

In other words, whether you're a beginner or you're super fit, I think it's a fantastic place to come to. I've been a competitive swimmer for about 12 years and just began triathlon. Definitely not a land person, but I'm all about challenging myself and trying something new. I used to hear from a lot of people that CrossFit wasn't good for you because people don't really care about form, so it leads to injury. It's definitely not the case here, you have coaches here who watch over you and make sure you're doing exercises properly before adding weights or furthering your progression. I've learned a lot! I was worried about coming in and being completely lost, but I had been in contact with Jason beforehand and I wasn't lost one bit in the two free sessions I came in. Right away, he was there to guide me. Jason was very patient and super encouraging! I absolutely love the atmosphere in here. There is a team sense, you just have to be willing to speak up and talk to people here. They're all super kind and supportive. I'm just sad cause I have to leave for college now, but I will FOR SURE be back here on my extended breaks!

The pricing and schedule is right in line with other crossfit gyms in the area. The owner is very helpful. She is helpful and enthusiatic about the culture of crossfit. The other coaches are great assets to the 'box'. They are also willing to answer any fitness/nutritional question in person or via e-mail or fb. The 'box' is fully equipped with everything a crossfitter would need. Plenty of weights, kettlebells, plyo boxes, jump ropes, tires etc. They also offer a nutritional challenge for the members for the summer, spring and fall. Yoga classes once a week and various health seminars. The other members are supportive and competitive. Once you go through a couple of WODs with them you feel like they are family.

So I was introduced to Sarah Provan by my nutritionist, Michael Florida. For me finding a personal trainer is almost as important as finding a boyfriend or a hairstylist. You have to vibe well and they must have an understanding of what you need. I was also very skeptical of crossfit because one it looks very intimidating and two lots of people get hurt through it. But since she came highly recommended by someone I really trust, I decided to give it a go. Day 1: Preview workout. She really sat down and got to know my fitness background, my fitness goals, and my style of working out. We did a preview workout which was challenging but very motivating because I got through it! Outside of training days: Because I also enjoy spin, she worked it in with my plan and also assigns great workouts too. Cardio blast is no joke! Training: Each and every workout session I learn something new and it is very exciting to me. The workouts are HARD, and I cuss and sweat and overly dramatic, but always always leave feeling very accomplished. Progression: In just about a month that I have been with Sarah, I have definitely regained strength, improved technically, am not as winded, and now can get up into a wall assisted headstand! Oh and dropping 5lbs of fat didn't hurt either!! I can't wait to continue on with my fitness journey with Sarah by my side!! Also with Sarah's training, I am feeling more confident and hope to join the classes soon.

I tried several others closer to me that were intimidating and where the coaches did not pay nearly enough attention to a struggling beginner. There were other gyms where coaches would be texting and chatting with their friends during the metcon. When I arrived at Iron Oak I could tell it was different. The coaches truly care about your form and push you to accomplish things you never thought possible. The programming is difficult without being impossible. The facilities are ENORMOUS, clean, and well stocked. The owners truly care about your opinion and send a yearly survey to find ways to improve the experience. I still love how every class is different so I never get bored and I still get surprised with new workout moves that challenges everyone. The trainers are amazing and push me to finish my sets, and to use heavier weights to challenge me. When I am at F45, you definitely feel the team training aspect, and at this location everyone is like a huge family. We train together, test our limits together, and support each other through the hard stations. *Previous Review* From the moment I signed up for a membership to attending classes, everyone was so welcoming and encouraging! I was really nervous attending classes because I am super out of shape, and have not worked out in years. I have to say, the classes are definitely challenging! However, for every work out the trainers also demonstrate a modification, which is greatly appreciated. This location is pretty clean and provides towels. I like that they also have a water fountain inside, and 2 restrooms. The app to sign up for classes is easy to use, and explains what kind of class it will be. I like that you can still cancel/change your booking for the classes the day of (unless of course the class is full or already started). F45 is definitely more laid back, if you run a few minutes late to class, you are welcomed to join in (if you did book for the class) The trainers and other members at this location are soooo down to earth and motivating! I never feel judged for struggling with the movements or not being able to finish my entire set. My first class was athletica, and I literally died in 15 minutes. Halfway through the class I went to go puke and again after class. The trainer that day encouraged me at the end of class saying "everyone has to start somewhere" while giving me a high five. Today I just finished another class and I actually was able to participate the entire time! I'm so excited to continue and hope to see results over time.

Emma similarly looks to challenge but is also motivating and provided me modifications when needed with an injury, looking out for me when I didn't realize I could re-injure something without even knowing. The gym has a variety of equipment but is on the smaller side, so it's easier to see and get to know regulars in your class but also meet new people. Highly recommend!
