Here we are in Paris, eating Korean food! What can I say- this is what we were in the mood for…read more Our original pick was closed due to a leak. We found this place on the fly, courtesy of Yelp. The only negative about this restaurant is that it was really warm, so warm that we didn't stay for dessert. The food was excellent. We shared bibimbap and bulgogi. Both were really good. To our surprise, the food was brought out within minutes of ordering. We also ordered the excellent banchan. This was wqshed down with some cold soju. The prices weee really reasonable. Jantchi is very similar to the kins of Korean food that we get in NY, but less expensive and a bit faster paced. If you are tired of French food, it's worth a shot.

We probably checked five other Korean restaurants before settling on Jantchi. The restaurant quickly became busy during lunch. However, service was quick and I got my much needed soft tofu soup (soondubu) with the accompanying side dishes in a timely manner. I ordered the lunch soondubu, which was as expected, a bit watered down, but still hit the spot with the sesame oil flavor I was craving for. The egg is already cracked into the soup, which is not as hot as I'm used to. My boyfriend ordered the bibimbap, which came out in the stone pot and was pretty tasty ! We doubled down on the gochujang, and it was enough to keep our Korean cravings at bay for the remaining trip.

On the day of our reservation, all of the parties for the designated seating time were shown to their tables; once everyone was seated (we were seated in the basement with a few other parties), each course was brought out in an orderly sequence. I will not comment too much on the details of the meal since the menu changes each day and is meant to be a surprise, but each dish was innovative and prepared with fresh ingredients. At a high level, our meal included a fruit appetizer, soup, fish, red meat, cheese, and dessert. One of my favorite parts of the experience was trying to guess the ingredients in each dish - some were quite difficult to guess because they were prepared in untraditional ways with the ingredients transformed beyond visual recognition (e.g., cantaloupe mousse). Each dish was very distinct from the next and provided a balance of flavors, textures, and temperatures. While I'd consider a couple of the dishes to be truly sublime, overall, the unique dining experience was one of the highlights of my trip to Paris.

I liked this and I had fun puzzling it out with my friends. We did not do a very good job! It was hard to guess the ingredients and I think they purposefully try to fool you a little. I have photos of each course but I don't remember all the details. We had 6 courses. There was a small starter of a bao bun; mine was markedly less filled than the others on the table, so the proportions were off and I felt shortchanged. Then we had a fish course, a course with savory ice cream and some bread (like cornbread), a mushroom "pate" course, a cheese course (one big slice of cheese), and dessert (ice cream and apricots?). I felt like everything (taste, texture, ingredient quality and variety) were good but not great, especially since they are making things easier on themselves by doing fixed menus. Staff tried to explain what all the dishes and ingredients were, and they did good but not great job. They spoke English but didn't always know the English words for specific ingredients. The ambiance was fine. We were at a long, narrow communal table on the first floor just next to the kitchen and the door. It was a little cold from people coming in and out and a little busy with all the staff moving around. It wasn't the most refined or relaxing atmosphere.

We opted for the 24€ per person set menu that came with an entree, rice, lettuce wraps, play: kalbi, banchan, and dessert each! We also got a side stew for 6€. He was nice enough to trade stews from the beef stew for the kimchi stew because oh dang, I crave my kimchi stews. The service was amazing and they speak Mandarin, English, French, and Korean. Great. We first got our side dishes and later rice and stew and then the beef BBQ! The beef was great quality and marinated in a light soysauce. The grilling pan was the type that holds all the juices which was great. The meats came with veggies too like onion, artichoke, and different types of mushrooms. The kimchi stew was out of this world and my boyfriend who does not like liquid foods like soups ate it all!!!! Yum. For dessert we both got a scoop of ice cream. Our amazing meal came out to less than 50€ because the owner was nice enough to give us some service (in Korean, a small gift for coming). I recommend making reservations as we saw people getting turned away. I am so happy to have found my Korean place here in Paris. Next time I will go try the pork belly!! Side note: they are actually named Go Grill.
