When the Korean food craving hits during the second day in Europe... look no further than the 1st arrondissement, perfect location as it's close to the Louvre and lots of Asian food options. We probably checked five other Korean restaurants before settling on Jantchi. The restaurant quickly became busy during lunch. However, service was quick and I got my much needed soft tofu soup (soondubu) with the accompanying side dishes in a timely manner. I ordered the lunch soondubu, which was as expected, a bit watered down, but still hit the spot with the sesame oil flavor I was craving for. The egg is already cracked into the soup, which is not as hot as I'm used to. My boyfriend ordered the bibimbap, which came out in the stone pot and was pretty tasty ! We doubled down on the gochujang, and it was enough to keep our Korean cravings at bay for the remaining trip. read more

Here we are in Paris, eating Korean food! What can I say- this is what we were in the mood for. Our original pick was closed due to a leak. We found this place on the fly, courtesy of Yelp. The only negative about this restaurant is that it was really warm, so warm that we didn't stay for dessert. The food was excellent. We shared bibimbap and bulgogi. Both were really good. To our surprise, the food was brought out within minutes of ordering. We also ordered the excellent banchan. This was wqshed down with some cold soju. The prices weee really reasonable. What do you do when you crave Korean food while youre travelling in France? Use Yelp! Thank god for Yelp because without it, how am I supposed to know if theres even Korean restaurants in France?? I was craving Korean food after days of eating all this carbs and cheese, I knew I needed something to balance out what was in my system. Jantchi was my choice. After reading reviews, it seemed pretty legit. Well, it wasnt great. I dont see myself going back here ever again. I feel that the workers here are very weird. I dont know why but I feel that at certain Korean Restaurants, Koreans treat Koreans worse. Can anyone agree with me? Come on now. Upon entering, they greeted us in Korean and sent us to the table upstairs. Sat down at a table with nothing set up. Then I see a table next to ours, all set up with fancy plates and water cups, but later I found out that was for non-Koreans only. Are you serious?! Why can they treat all customers equally?! Ive looked around and all the tables with Koreans or Asians, they sat at a table with nothing yet I see all these French and other non-Korean tables with full setting. Ugh! I had those small metal cups you get at a typical Korean restaurants, HAHA Ordered Spicy Squid Stir Fry (SSSF) and Bulgogi Rice (BR). SSSF was nowhere close to what I know as SSSF. It wasnt spicy, and they used cuttlefish instead of squid so it had no leg parts like tentacles. Only white cuttlefish fillets. It had really weird texture and flavor and I absolutely disliked it. BR was served on a hotstone pot and portion was generous. However, Bulgogi wasnt really Bulgogi. It was definitely missing something. Servers were very stuck up too. Everytime I asked for something, she wouldnt even reply back instead she will look at me and come to our table and just leave it there, i.e. napkins. I was so done with that kind of attitude. I really wanted to flip the table and leave. Its like, what is your problem? What did I do to you? Ughhhh, thinking about it makes me soooooo mad. I knew this place wasnt going to be it when I saw they gave us those tiny metal cups when other tables had wine glasses for water. So freaking shady. Price was not that great, food wasnt either and side dishes were mediocre at best. Service was horrible and parking is almost impossible in the area if you bring a car like me. I came here around 7:30, and surprisingly, we didn't have to wait at all (although there was a bit of a line by the time we left.) My friend and I got the dakgalbi to share, and it was 38euros for 2 portions - a lot more expensive than Korean food back in the US, but not too bad considering we didn't have to pay extra tip and tax. We also got a pot of makgeolli, which went well with our food! I hadn't had Korean food in a long time, so everything tasted amazing (although in retrospect, it was just above average - I've definitely had better dakgalbi in Korea and NOVA.) The few times we have traveled to Europe, we have inevitably gotten to a point in each trip where we seriously needed Asian food. More specifically, Korean or Japanese food. When that time came this last Summer, we were fortunate to find Jantchi. Sometimes it's hard enough to find decent Korean food in the Bay Area, let alone in the middle of Paris. All I need to say is this: we came here twice in seven days. A few notes about Jantchi: We've only been here twice but there was a line (with at least a half hour wait) each time. Once was on a Saturday night around 7:00pm and the other was a Wednesday night around 9:00pm. They make you pay extra for panchan (i.e., the small side dishes). They will bring you ice if you ask for it. We ordered bulgogi and it was good each time although a little on the sweet side (which I'm fine with). We did not BBQ at the table. We also ordered japchae once, and stone pot bibimbap another time. All the dishes were pretty good as evidenced by the fact that we came back a few days later. read more

Food was not good. Korean American providing feedback on this unusually popular Korean restaurant. We had the Bulgogi special and kimchi chijae. Bulgogi was overly marinated low quality meat. Kimchi chijae was insanely salty. Service was mediocre. They charge 2 euros for rice and 6 euros for banchan (side dishes) never in my life I've ever seen a Korean restaurant charge for rice or banchan. Should of been a clear warning for us. Definitely not worth 52+ euros at all. We've eaten Korean food from Korea, LA, NYC, with all our Korean families. This is far from anything Korean original at all. The place opens at 7pm and we got there just before 7 and there was already a bit of a line, us being 2nd. By the time it was 7 the line was significantly long! So if you want to make sure to get a seat - get there early :) but then again we visited on a weekend. I'm Korean. So I can't rate Korean restaurants against the benchmarks that are my Mom's superfreakinamazing cooking nor the original versions of different Korean dishes I had in their respective regions of Korea. I am rating this place based on the fact that it is located in Paris, the price point, the quality of the ingredients and the state of Stomach post dining. It is true that sometimes delicious Korean food I eat out at restaurants give me tummy aches due to the MSG and the excessive species they use. This place gets a 4.5 star rating. I only ordered the pork bibimbap but banchan that came before and the the ingredients in the "sot" (pot) were both delicious. Where it lacks half a star is the fact that it came in a fake dol sot meaning it wasn't the actual hot stone bowl. But since a few days have passed since I actually ate here, I'm now unsure if the menu reads dolsot bibimbap or just a regular bibimbap. If it reads a regular bibimbap then I apologize for wrongly accusing the establishment. Another star off of not accompanying the bibimbap with a small bowl of soup - whether it is miso based or egg and fish based. It is not customers for Korean places to serve just the rice dish alone - we just don't eat rice without soup. If this place was truly living up to it's reputation was one of the best customer rated Korean restaurants in Paris then they HAVE to serve at least a mini bowl of soup as a good gesture. This made me realize that the Resto is definitely doing well (that is why they do not need to serve the extra-somethin') and that they cater mostly to non Korean customers. My dish was around 14 Euros and I did not get a tummy ache when I got home :) read more

We were craving Asian food after two weeks of pizza and pasta in Italy and we found this wonderful spot when we were walking around the neighborhood. Of all the restaurants in France, Jantchi was the most reasonably priced with the appropriate food portions. We waited fifteen minutes before we were seated upstairs. The food took a little time to come but it was worth it in the end as we were stuffed with leftover food. They have combo meals in which you could pick an appetizer and entree at a fixed price. Definitely recommend for your Asian fix in France. read more

I really want to support my Korean peoples in every way that I can but man, the food was so bad I literally could not take more than two bites of my bibimbap and it's honestly very hard to screw bibimbap up. However, maybe they tweaked it so that it tastes specifically milky for parisians? I honestly don't get it. But all i know is that it did not taste right. I also got the fried chicken (simply bc they had a credit card minimum) and it should not be on the bone! The Korean/Chinese way to do that dish is off the bone thigh meat! A really good Korean place, really! It is located in the Asian district between Pyramides and Opera. You will pass by several Japanese restaurants (looking very appetizing too!) but I am glad we resisted and tried this awesome Korean restaurant! The decor is well laid off, simple and authentic (you'll even find some Korean journals - if you can read it!). There is a lot of small tables and seats, but though the lack of space you don't feel oppressed at all thanks to the big window, the open kitchen, the stairs leading upstairs to a second room or downstairs to the bathroom... The waiters welcomed us right away with a smile and remained friendly our entire lunch long. They are very efficient and we didn't have to wait AT ALL for them to take our orders and to bring the drinks and meals! We were very agreeably surprised. As for the food: it was really good! :) Again, simple and authentic. We went for the 11.50€ Bibimbap menu with an entry (careful the spicy salad is indeed VERY spicy!) and a bibimbap served with 3 small salads on the side. It was one of the best I ever had! In a very hot bowl, you'll get rice at bottom, veggies (and omelette) nicely spread on it, and meat on top if you order it. The portions are in the perfect size, and it tastes good, feels healthy and you can tell the products are fresh and tasty! You have to pay an extra 1.50€ if you wish meat in your bowl, but even though it remains cheap for the quality and quantity you get. Okay, so being in Paris, you're going to pay more for anything that's not French, or anything that's specifically a restaurant and not a café/brasserie. However, after having lived in Korea for a year, I get the hankering from time to time for some good Korean food. I carefully looked through the reviews on here and on an equivalent French website, and this place seemed to be one of, if not the best Korean restaurant in Paris. Now, I have nothing else to compare it to except authentic Korean food, since this it the first time I've had Korean in Paris. I wasn't let down, though. The restaurant is quite modern and quite nothing like the inside of a real Korean restaurant. Porcelain bowls? Glass water glasses? Glass pitchers? This is clearly Paris, and not Korea, the land of metal everything and hanging vents over your barbecue table. I brought my date here because I wanted to share Korean cuisine with her and she'd never had it before. We ordered japchae (), regular bibimbap (), and dak (chicken) bulgogi (). The japchae was spot on, though served as an appetizer (entrée) whereas I've usually seen it as a main course in Korea. The bibimbap was dolsot (hotpot) style, and was pretty good. Too bad they didn't put a raw egg on top, but that's a question of style rather than authenticity. The dak bulgogi was really good. I'd seen dakgalbi on the menu and it was really expensive, and I was very surprised to find that the dak bulgogi was very much like dakgalbi, of course minus the ricecake. It had zucchini in it, which I can't ever recall seeing in much Korean food, but in terms of the authenticity of the food, that was the ONLY thing I could think of that wasn't authentic. The food was well spiced, served in a pretty timely manner, and presented well. The service was good, and I got a few laughs out of them when I ordered in Korean and complimented the food in Korean. Not something they expect from a white guy in Paris, I suppose? (As a side note, I always like that no matter how bad your Korean is, they always tell you that you speak good Korean whenever you try. Very much Korean!) Highly recommended. Come when it opens at 7PM (well, for the dinner shift) or else you may be faced with a longer wait for your food since the place fills up quickly. Made no sense though because the restaurant was half empty upstairs and it was 7pm on a friday. Anyways onto the food after it took years to come. The appetizer we tried the Korean seafood crepe. There were 3 shrimps n like maybe 3 calamari rings in it. Sloppy and pretty tasteless unless u put soy sauce on it. Before your main comes they brought six small side dishes like typical Korean restaurants do. Always a fun plus in my books! The eggplant one was so good! I could've had 3 dishes of it alone. My main I had the veggie bibimbap. This was fantastic and had a great assortment of veggies. In a street where these is tons of different restaurants, you can recognize Jantchi as the one where people queue up. It obviously has its fans! And as everywhere else on the Rue Sainte-Anne, you can't book, so keep that in mind if you plan to go (I was there on a freezing January evening so not that many people had the courage to queue up, but I can imagine a quite long wait at nicer periods of the year). As for the food, everything we saw looked and smelled great, and our bimbimbap (€14) was delicious, with a lot of fresh and tasty ingredients on top of the rice, perfectly seasoned beef, and an array of small plates of more veggies to share for the table (incl. kimchi, spinach...). Good point also: service was efficient but not hasty, and they let us all the time we wanted after the meal to discuss even though there were not that many people left in the restaurant. read more

The korean food here is very solid. It is moderately priced and the location and decor made my experience very enjoyable. This restaurant is located between Opera and Pyramides and is surrounded by several other restaurants that are not nearly at the same level. While the food is not as authentic as conventional Korean dishes (duh) the bibimbap was extremely satisfying. If you are craving Korean food in Paris this is the place to go, otherwise I advise you to try something that may have the extra "wow" factor. read more

If you ask to turn on air con, they will, though waitress said French ppl don't like air cons. We got two bibimbaps, one soondoobu, and one dwenjangchigae. And a pajeon. Service by one young gal and young man downstairswas curt. The older woman was nicer. Pajeon was deep fried. It's not traditional korean. We thought it was good. Kimchi was fresh and good. All the other banchan were less salty than traditional Korean, which we liked. The soybean sprouts tasted a lil old, though. Main dishes took forever to come out! I don't know if it's always this busy. We went on a Monday and the upstairs and downstairs were filled up. Both pork and beef bibimbap were good. Kimchichigae was very porky but did the job. There seem to be two Korean restaurants with lines out the door, this is one of the two. I much prefer the other one I also reviewed. Food was ok, nothing really stands out, competent Korean food, much like any K town in the states. As one person noted, the staff will seat you upstairs or downstairs as you enter. I thought this a bit strange but have to agree with other reviewers. Upstairs mostly Asian or not Parisian. Service was on the slow side and not particularly friendly. I wouldn't go back and based on my experience I am not sure what all the fuss is about with the long lines. read more

I am amazed by how many Korean restaurants were opened since our visit in 2005. Back then there were only two but now there seem to be more then two dozen in Paris. When I arrived at the restaurant it was not quite 7pm and several people were outside waiting to get in. With a half hour, after seating ,the place was packed. I noticed many people were also going upstairs. My spicy pork Dolsot bibimbop was so delicious. I did not need to add any gochujang. They even had spicy bean sprout for one of the side dishes. I could easily eat here one meal a day while in Paris. read more
