I want to give more stars But I am upset , 3 out of 4 propane tanks I get filled, they have air in them or bad propane ? Sometimes it works when I get the air out doing it my self. But sometimes that does not work. So not sure if it's the propane ? This has happened 4 different times now. Maybe bad Propane ? Along with workers not trained ? This happened on a new tank too that I bought in the store. Other than that I like this store. I have spent a lot of money in this store. I been buying from this business since they opened. I am all for supporting local businesses but I am DONE with Handyman Hardware on Telegraph Rd. We had the screens repaired on the front of our house (one created). Picked them up yesterday and one screen did not have the pins to hold it in place. 2 years ago when we had screens on the back of the house repaired all those pins were replaced. This time the only screen with new pegs was the one they built...ok I don't need new pegs, just need the screens to stay in place. Stopped by there this morning to get the 2 missing pegs. They ask if it came to them with posts. I reply I don't know my husband dropped them off, just need two pegs to hold the screen in (like the ones in the screen they created). They pull out a box and none of the pegs look like what was in the replacement screen they built. I ask why all the pegs were not replaced like 2 years ago. Their response, "that was 2 years ago". Seriously???? I just spent over $200 for 10 screens and I get a response like that? Below see a picture of what I am talking about ($0.28/each or $2.50 for all the screens). I even said something at the front of the store to the register were there are several staff members listening. Their response, "I'm sorry". I'm sorry to. I will now have to go online to purchase these pins and spend more money because they have such poor service. I will also find someplace else to create the future screens we need made. read more

I grew up with neighborhood hardware stores and the is NOTHING like them. Big box stores sre great if you have no questions and need big appliances and large purchases of items.. I have never been to this store without being able to find what I need or having an employee suggest a better, quicker or cheaper way to accomplish a task. Returns are a breeze, rental equipment is varied and plentiful. You can have screens replaced, keys cut, the list goes on and on. A few years back they had an end of season gazebo marked down to a good price. I offered them $50 less and they accepted it. There was no manual to put it back together but the manager downloaded it off the computer for me. It's close to home and hours are 7:30 -9p. Love it. read more

So check this out. It's Sunday afternoon around 1:00 pm, and the Telegraph store is packed, and I need to run in for bike cable lock. The store personnel are helpful and direct me straight to the item. I get in line at the first register, with two people in front of me and three people filing behind me. The young man at the register is talking on the phone, taking an order or something, and it goes on for about six minutes while everyone is still waiting. He finishes up his call, checks one customer out, and then puts up a sign that says, "This Register Closed", and walks away, leaving all those people still in line, (including me), with no explanation. Totally rude, and a turn off for me shopping there on a regular basis! read more

I always end up finding what I need but always seem to have trouble getting help and always an attitude at the cashier counter. Yesterday I stopped in with my husband and wanted to make a split payment of cash and debit card payment, to offset the bank account spending...well the cashier didn't seem to know what she was doing and would not address me while she was loudly venting her frustration at the register. What was supposed to be a quick trip turned into me spending an extra 10+ minutes at the register and being told I didn't have enough money in my account and that that was the problem. After leaving my purchase on the desk and feeling stupid I checked my bank account and found that I had more then adequate funds and the cashier didn't know how to use the register. I'll be taking my business to home depot from here on out. read more

I really liked this store. They have many things I need often at better prices than home depot. The staff always were helpful when needed. That is, until I wanted to rent a breaker. I checked in their website and the price was better than home depot and competitive with some others. Their website says "Call to Reserve", so I did. This was the week before I needed it. I lined up four three friends to help with my sump pump project. So I go to pick it up at the scheduled time and they tell me there in none available. One is broken and another was due back 3 days prior but the person didn't bring it back. I know these are unfortunate circumstances, but the reason I am so unhappy with true value is that they should have tried to contact the prior renter when it was overdue. They did not. If they tried to contact the prior renter with no success, they should have called me to let me know ahead of time that they could not honor their reservation. They did not. Since I had everything else lined up for the project, I had not choice but to run to home depot to rent a breaker. I went back to True Value with my home depot receipt and asked for a store credit for the extra $25 over the cost of the breaker I had reserved. They refused. They offered to "give me a break on a future rental". This was unsatisfactory because; I had already put out the cash, I have no know future rental needs, and why would I rent there after this experience? I just find it extremely disappointing that True Value would advertise "Call to Reserve" and then make no effort to honor the reservation or at least make the customer whole after failing to honor their reservation. read more

I have always gone to big box hardware stores in the past but we purchased a new home closer to this store and I thought I would try them out for paint. I had such a nice experience! Everyone was soo pleasant , helpful and kind. They even carried the paint gallons out to my car for me. I expected the prices to be a little higher due to being a smaller neighborhood store, but they were spot on with their bigger competitors. Even when I've run around, wasting time at the "big" stores, 9 times out of 10, I end up in my own backyard, finding what I need, competent employees, friendly service and competitive prices.
