Robert Irwin came an hour early, claiming he was in the area, and it was starting to drizzle. I looked out, and told him there was nothing coming down here. Since he was an hour early, I asked if he could wait at least 30 minutes in case it passed. He said he'll see, but would try to come back on Saturday. Less than 30 minutes later, there was nothing but sun. I called right away, asking him to complete the scheduled job, called again on Friday and Saturday, and have not heard back from him since. I canceled the job as I need someone who communicates and can get the job done.

I was told that the job would NOT take more time because they had another appointment immediately following. My invoice was going from $165 to $395 with parts and labor. When I brought this up and asked why the labor doubled when the time frame was the same, Gina reacted negatively instantaneously. She said that this was the cost and if I didn't like it, they would just pack up and leave. I should have been able to at least ask a question and get an answer but instead Gina was arrogant and condescending. They left without even trying to work something out with me. I posted this on Google as well (and went much more in detail), but would like to share my personal…read moreexperience of a renovation from Mendr. Starting on day 1, a subcontracted demo crew arrived along with Marcus from your team. They accidentally nicked a knob and tube wire along with 2 pipes. We did not know at the time, and noone from your team told us even though I have video proof they knew earlier that morning. We later found out when OUR plumber came to check on the pipes and noticed the mistakes and pointed it out to all workers present at that time. Knowing these pipes were nicked, they closed the floor anyway with the active leak inside. Following installation of the toilet and shower head, when I went to use the toilet, water came spewing through my ceiling downstairs- The team refused to acknowledge responsibility, initially stating it was the radiator regardless of my insisting. Upon locating the leak was actually in a drain pipe, they then said it was the subcontractors fault for nicking the pipe, completely ignoring the fact that if it wasn't enclosed under flooring, this would not have been an issue. Along with this issue, I had multiple concerns with professionalism and communication throughout. I was never told who would be coming on what day, and I encountered about 6 different workers in the time Mendr worked on my house. I was told Marcus would be my project lead, and he was only present the first 2 days. When we would relay a message to one worker, they would not relay it to the others, which lead to huge gaps in communication. We would ask for things to be done a certain way, and the team would ignore and do it the way "they always do it", even when resulting in poor installation of the sister beams, flooring, and cutting into my stack pipe for the exhaust fan. Your team did not put any tarps down unless we asked them to and even then, did not fix them when they would rip. There were multiple discussions regarding safety issues I caught on camera as well that your team still tries to pawn onto the subcontractors I didn't even know were coming. The absolute worst part about this team regardless of all the issues I encountered in my home is that your team still refuses to be held accountable, and does not seem sympathetic in the least for any of the damage caused in my home. I have photo and video proof as well as multiple other professionals who stated the work your team provided may as well be illegal with the lack of safety concern and poorly following ANY coding guidelines. Even with all of this, Kyle, you still try to deny claims and report the subcontractors did it- completely ignoring ANY of your teams responsibility in this matter. Do better, Do not rip people off if you can not handle the project. We deserve our down payment back, none of the work you performed was actually usable! You are only as professional as ALL of your employees and it has been made clear you do not send the same employees for all of your jobs.

They said I was responsible for supplying all the materials. I had no idea what materials were needed for replacement of all the plumbing to be replaced. I had purchased the new sink, disposal & faucet. 3. They charge to drive to a hardware store whereas plumbers have supplies on their truck or purchase them beforehand to complete the job. 4. I needed recommendations before ordering replacement items, which I received when the plumbers gave me estimates at no cost. 5. They aren't plumbers to know best practices & city codes. 6. I have no idea of the skill set or necessary experience as to who they assign to my project. 7. The last handyman I used for a small fix used the thinnest cheapest copper to change a shut off. Lesson learned. A plumber wouldn't have used such material. Enough said.

We usually reserve this kind of work for people we know or recommended by people we trust. So, I was a little skeptical about how it would turn out. Michael definitely delivered. He showed up the next day to give a quote, sent me a quote a couple of days later, and then started the job two weeks from my initial inquiry. So the first part of this review is that he showed up in a timely manner, which was something 4 other people failed to do. He worked on our basement drywall after we had a flood. He replaced the bottom half of what was cut out, put in trim, and painted. He also built us a wall split up the giant space. It all turned out really well and I couldn't be more happy with it. My only complaint, but not enough to lower my stars, was that due to our basement set up, all the spackling sanding ended up on our first floor (there's no door down to the basement). It was everywhere. If you'll have this same issue, I'd recommend putting up some sort of plastic barrier. If you need drywall repair, give Michael a call! He also accepts Venmo, which was a plus for us.

I sent a request a quote message and ended up chatting with John, the owner, the same day. He stopped by to see my project, sent me a quote, and within days he and his crew were at my house! We needed our front railing, front door, and roof deck railings to be sanded down and re-painted. Our house is only four years old but, as we've discovered, new construction doesn't always equal the best quality. John and his crew showed up bright and early around 8:30am, and worked tirelessly in the sun until the project was finished around 4pm. John explained the differences in the types of paint he needed to use for the railings and door. Everyone in the crew was friendly and careful about their work space - by the time they left, you wouldn't have known they were even here, aside from their gorgeous handiwork! My husband and I think the railings and door look even better now than they did when we bought our house. My only regret? Not taking before and after photos! These guys made a world of difference and I'm so happy every time I look at my front door. I highly recommend Hawthorne Painting and wouldn't hesitate to hire them again for another project.
