I used JD of Handyman Guru successfully on installing new window screens. I trusted him. He gave a bid for a bathroom remodel. As an out-of-state investor, the photos he showed me looked good. However, once the unit was occupied, a leak at the sink was discovered. He did not answer repeated calls and texts. I reviewed my contract as I prepare to sue him. He is avoiding me, but the court system will demand his attention. Since he is registered as a Home Improvement Contractor, HIC, with PA Attorney General's Office, I am filing a complaint with them as well as Better Business Bureau. Last, this company demands 50% payment upfront, which is against PA contractor regulations. Beware. read more

Recieved a quote, excepted it and we set a date for Oct. 16 for the start. This was done on the 8th Oct. On the 16th he was a no show. I texted this person twice that day with no response, even though the texts showed he had read them. I have never felt with such an inconsiderate-incompetent person/ company in my life. We had two other bids, one at the same price point and one for over a hundred less. If the company wanted to back out it should have let me know. I would have selected a different bidder and the job would be done. Due this individual s incompetance we were set back eight days and trying to schedule with one of the other bidders. I'm not sure how me knowing that your brother passed would allow you to lie to us, not respond to my dozens and dozens of calls and texts AFTER you told me to order supplies by your home and then put our family in a difficult spot. Had you simply acknowledged that that was still affecting you and you could no longer work for us we would have more than understood. However, the ONLY time you responded to me after all these calls, texts and emails was when I contacted you here and you PMd me, not publicly posted. And even then you mentioned that you were taking the business in a different direction which is yet again different than what you are saying now. I too have lost close family members but would never have let it affect others the way you have and certainly wouldn't have ignored dozens and dozens of calls, texts and emails for months from someone that had treated me well for years. I am simply trying to prevent others from having to deal with the same thing when it comes to the work product and just walking away from jobs when others are depending on you. read more

It was a simple vinyl floor installation in our bathroom. JD was very friendly, prompt, courteous, communicated well (we were never left in the dark at any point), and the job was done as well as it could be. The price was reasonable. It was a bit of a challenge as these old coal miner houses are all crooked, so it's a bit tricky getting the patterns to look "straight". But he did a very good job. Definitely will hire again if & when the future need arises. read more

I moved into a house recently, and unfortunately it had a lot of water damage due to the previous owners neglecting an on going situation. I called handyman guru and got a very kind person who came right out to assess the situation and gave me an awesome quote that was way under what I thought it would be price wise. I brought J.D into my home to fix my kitchen. He explained to me that the work would only take a few weeks. As the job went on, as these things do it took much longer. Which would have been understandable if he was actually working through this time. He started the job and then left me with an unfinished kitchen for WEEKS! Then came back for a day or so and left again for 2 weeks. Talked to me about everything under the sun, EXCEPT, the work he was doing and what would have to wait and why. He just up and left and stopped showing up. Now that the kitchen is finally done after 2 months of waiting and only about 4 weeks of work, my drawers are set crooked. Like, obviously crooked. The naked eye can see its about a 1/2 an inch off. The way he cut the floors was sub par, you can still see the floor underneath. My cabinets are hanging open and won't close. (He told me I needed to get magnets so they will stay closed because my house is on an angle) Which makes no sense, because some of the cabinets ON THE SAME WALL will remain closed and others won't. Its because of the way he built them! He is a very nice guy, and disguised all of the work he did for me as him "looking out" because "he doesn't like how other contractors jerk people around". He took my money and did exactly that. Now one of my drawers has fallen apart and I have had to figure out how to fix it. I have to pay someone else to come in here and look over the entire kitchen and fix all the corners he cut because there are bound to be more. I am not please with the work he did at all! I would not recommend him for a big job because he will tell you he can do it, but believe me he will probably be in over his head. Which is how I managed to be in the situation I am in now. If he had been honest and told me the job was too big for him I would have understood. Now I have paid my money and have little to show for it. read more
