I called on a Thursday for a shut off valve issue with my toilet. In short, I wasn't getting any…read morewater flow from the valve into the tank, so I assumed there was a clog. And if not, this was surely an issue far beyond my level of expertise. Their earliest availability was the following Monday (4 days) later, which was sooner than I expected. They kept me on stand by for the following day (Friday), but no such luck. My service window was 9 AM - 12 PM and two technicians showed up directly to my door around 9:30. Also sooner than I expected. I was impressed not only by the timing but also their sense of direction. Getting to my condo unit can be confusing with the various gate entrances, but these guys clearly knew what they were doing. Most people get lost. Not these guys. This job required a water main shut off in my HOA and they knew exactly where to go. They were friendly and professional and in and out in under 1 hour 30 minutes. The only reason I am at 4 stars is because I was quoted $225 for the job, but was charged $325. That seems a bit off, but the job was done swiftly and so I didn't bother challenging them.

Like any major…read moreproject, we started by reaching out to a couple of vendors to get quotes, that's where we met Alon, the project manager for Lumina Builders. What immediately stood out to us was that he had ideas and solutions to address our pain points and make enhancements, we wouldn't have ever considered, and didn't just wait for us to tell him how we wanted things. He created a vision for us in that first quote visit. The other contractor we spoke to didn't provide any ideas just asked us how we wanted it. It was a very easy decision to go with Alon and Lumina Builders. Our project was estimated to take 2-3 months and ultimately took two and a half months to complete. We designed a brand new kitchen, addressing all of our concerns and adding a few recommendations from Alon to streamline some areas. They ripped everything out aside from the flooring and walls. We got brand new custom cabinets, custom lighting, and new countertops. Our fridge was moved to a new, more accessible area. Our sink was shifted down to align with the stove for continuity sake (never realized how much I hated it being in a corner previously). We had a new little cabinet built in our little breakfast nook area and we had an appliance garage built to house everything that took up counter space. Everything is so much brighter and more open and, even though we know the demensions are roughly the same, it feels so much wider. We are ecstatic with how everything came out. Alon is a genius. He was responsive to us throughout the project, checking in weekly to see how things were going, giving us peace of mind throughout this process, as first time remodelers. We were indecisive about the primary cabinet color (I was very worried we'd be stuck with something we didn't really like) but he worked with the cabinet makes to give us several samples to choose from. He was very patient with us. We LOVE how everything turned out! We'll definitely be using Lumina Builders for all of our future projects.

First, our rep Robert came to our house with tons of options and suggestions. He was able to give us a wide variety and help us select something that uniquely fit our style and budget. He was easy to get a hold of and responded quickly with any questions we had. When we came to the showroom, Robert dopped everything to lead us through the selection process. We could tell he was highly knowledgeable and much more intent on making us happy rather than upselling us on unnecessary products. When instillation day came our installers, Miguel and Israel, were also very professional and highly knowledgeable and skilled. Rarely have I seen harder workers than these two! Their attention to detail--such as lining up the carpet pattern on the stairs and making sure the cut pattern on the risers were balanced--was impressive. I had a very disappointing experience with Shugarman's Bath Company…read more I first met their representatives at a local festival, where they advertised that they would provide a completely free bathroom design if I agreed to a home consultation and listened to their sales presentation. I specifically explained that I was interested in a full bathroom remodel, not just a shower replacement. Based on those representations, I agreed to schedule an appointment. When the salesperson arrived at my home, I was surprised to learn that the company only focuses on showers and does not provide complete bathroom remodels or custom bathroom designs as I had been led to believe. Despite realizing early in the appointment that their services did not match what I was looking for, I still sat through the sales presentation because I understood the salesperson was giving up his time to be there. The presentation lasted approximately an hour and a half. At the end, I was given a very expensive proposal, but no picture of how the shower would look like. When I followed up and requested to receive a picture of how the of the shower would look like as I was promised, I was told that they do not provide designs and that I should simply look at photos on their website (this statement came directly from Mr. Jones who was the lead design team. This was completely different from what was presented to me when I agreed to the appointment. I felt the advertising was misleading and that the primary goal was simply to get a salesperson into my home rather than provide the service that had been promised. I was also told that I could receive a discount if I left a positive review, which made me question the authenticity of some of the company's online reviews. Additionally, I was offered what was presented as a "free vacation" if I agreed to move forward with their proposal. However, as the details were explained, it became apparent that this was not truly a free vacation but rather a promotional offer tied to a timeshare-style presentation. This felt like another example of marketing that was not fully transparent upfront. Throughout the appointment, I felt significant pressure to decide on the spot. The overall experience reminded me of a high-pressure car dealership sales environment, where the focus seemed to be on getting a signed contract rather than understanding my needs and providing the services that had originally been promised. I believe companies should be transparent about the services they offer and should honor the commitments made to potential customers. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here.

Dan knows his stuff when it comes to repair and remodeling...a jack of all trades. I quickly learned that in the rare instance that he doesn't have the ability, he'll either learn how, or find someone who does and still get the job done well. He's reasonable with his rates, and provides excellent customer service despite his busy schedule and being in relatively high demand for a small business. Finding out he's a retired Navy Chief was also a selling point for me, and further supports why he is a hard worker, honest and fair. He's my go-to when I need a repair/remodel, or simply have questions about DIY household projects. I most recently hired him to tow my new trailer home and repair the electrical issues, and he went above and beyond. Also, a while back when I moved into my current rental, there were no counters or shelves in the kitchen, and he built me exactly what I needed on my shoe-string budget, even repurposing some of my old book shelves to help me save $. I know he does a lot more high-end, complex and costly jobs that involve full remodels, but I think it's cool that he doesn't treat the little jobs like a waste of his time. read more

I asked Dan if he could install my new Ring security system. When he came over to do the work, very prompt and on time, he pointed out the older porch lights I had. He suggested that the new black Ring light I bought is black and the porch light was white and admittedly, outdated. After a consultation with the boss, our new plan was to replace the porch light, add a new light and install the ring with the ringer inside. Not sure how we went from one hour of work to 4 but leave it to my lady to "help" make decisions. All this on-the-fly changes didn't scare Dan one bit. On the second day, he asked for half of the money to get supplies. ($500. I know, red flag!) He replaced the 2x4s (he used framing wood instead of outdoor wood) and didn't bother taking a lot of the staples out from the fence boards, hence, making the boards not flush to the 2x4s. He reset 3 posts, 2 of which did not set because the holes were not deep enough. He came one full day and 3 days after that for maybe a total of 3 hours. To make a long story short, we haven't heard from him since Jan. 24th. Now we are getting quotes from LICENSED fence companies to repair what David did. I do not recommend David to fix anyone's fence. We learned the hard way.

I didn't want to negotiate, or play hardball, I just wanted to know the estimated price so I knew what to expect. I didn't mind him coming back but after I saw the damage he did I feel he lacks experience and I didn't want to take the risk and my shelf coming out of the wall. He is a nice guy but definitely should be watched from start to finish. He even covered my outlet with the shelf which I can only use one of the two outlets. Anyway, I don't think he's a shady person, just not attention to detail and just macgyvered the job. You also might want to have him communicate as to what he is doing so you can see his work progress. He may be able to do simple projects but not putting up a shelf.
