Each handyman was cut out of the same mold - on time, respectful, upfront on costs, and superior work skills. Recently, Tony was brought to our house as the dry wall in the garage was about to fall. Mr. Handyman office quickly notified Tony who drove immediately to our house and began the work to repair. Afterwards we asked him to rework the drywall and support for the whole garage, repair all paneling after 33 years of neglect, and paint ceiling and rest of the garage. Tony was personable, extremely neat, kept us informed of his progress, and delivered an unbelievable sight of richness to our garage. As he was leaving I asked Tony if he could add handles to the shower area even though this was not on his work order. He did so willingly and worked overtime to be sure we were pleased. This is the type of workmanship that everyone should know about, and all pricing is up front before work begins. We will definitely be using Mr. Handyman for our future needs. The Seippels

My emails were answered within minutes. When I called with a quick question about materials for the job, the question was promptly addressed. I cannot recommend this company enough to anyone who needs to check off items on their to do list.

I moved into a new home and found James to help with jobs that were not too small but not big enough to hire a big crew and pay the high price tag. He was the most perfect handyman who came with his magic wand!! James helped with the following things - - Wired flood light Re-installation, which was too high for me to reach (like 30 ft tall, at the corner top/near roof of the house) and the previous one was broken and barely hanging on. - Stairs hand rail reinstallation. The handle was becoming loose from the wall because it was installed incorrectly by the previous owners and fixer uppers - Dining room chandelier electrical wiring troubleshoot - Main entrance new door lock replacement and installation - Outer foyer stone rebalance and fill ins. I found James through a word of mouth and Thumbtack. I cannot say enough good things about this guy as he went above and beyond and made this experience easy and smooth! Before I hired James, I went to his website which shows his previous projects and this assured me that he knows what he's doing. When I called, he responded quickly and came out to give me a quote, which was most reasonable to me compared to 3 other services I called. He started right away and he completed everything within a few hours. He pointed out what was done incorrectly from previous owners' fixer upper projects and reDid it correctly. He is a professional worth hiring to fix what had now become my problem with a new home. In the end, James even gave me tips on my future home improvement projects. He cleaned everything up with no mess left behind!

We had a leak in our upstairs bathroom that leaked into our kitchen cabinets that were only a few years old. The cabinets were damaged and the ceiling destroyed. Not wanting to replace all of our kitchen cabinets, James rebuilt the damaged cabinets from scratch and they were an exact match for our kitchen cabinets. He really put great effort into getting the color matched. He reinstalled them and they look just like they did before the damage. His pricing was very fair. He gets my highest recommendation.

He swapped out a leaky sink faucet with a new one, which he ran out and bought himself, saving me a trip to the store. He also replaced our old, degrading water lines. This time it wasn't the…read morecat getting into mischief--it was a large shelf in our closet giving way after thirty-one years of faithful service. To its credit, the old wire system had lasted decades. But what followed was not just a replacement--it was a complete transformation. We're now standing in a custom-built white oak closet designed and executed by JJ Palmer, and it's one of the finest examples of residential craftsmanship we've ever encountered. Every detail has been carried out with extraordinary care and quiet precision. The workmanship doesn't shout--but it absolutely sings. You see it in every cut and corner. Trim lines are crisp and flush, hand-scribed to imperfect walls so precisely that they seem to have grown there rather than been added. Shelf edges are finished so carefully that all end grain is hidden, and the face grain flows seamlessly across components. Even the angled shoe shelves--normally utilitarian--are grain-matched and gracefully proportioned, elevating function to quiet elegance. The layout itself reveals a deep understanding of proportion and geometry: verticals and horizontals are aligned across bays with rhythmic consistency; trim widths are uniform; spacing feels intentional and calming. Every inch of the system--from the sloped shoe racks to the deeper bay for long dresses and luggage--feels purposeful, balanced, and beautifully made. Nothing is extraneous. It's the kind of design that honors both material and use. JJ selected the materials with a discerning eye: knot-free white oak with straight, harmonious grain, installed in ways that bring out its natural beauty rather than compete with it. Even before stain was applied, the woodwork had presence and refinement. Once finished in a light weathered gray, the result was timeless, tactile, and visually integrated with the rest of the space--including our flooring and natural light conditions. What truly sets JJ apart, though, is not just his technical ability: it's his ethos. We've worked with him before, on projects ranging from a bathroom remodel to a full basement build-out, and each time, he brings the same consistency of quality, professionalism, and quiet pride in his work. He listens well, offers thoughtful solutions, and always delivers what he promises without shortcuts, excuses, or ego. In a world where true craftsmanship often feels like a relic, JJ Palmer is the real thing. We recommend Maryland Home Improvement Company without hesitation, and with deep appreciation
