Thrift store with lots of random finds and for the most part really good deals. Sometimes they have a BOGO on certain items and other daily specials. There are two dressing rooms that are spacious. There's a few racks that are 99 cent specials and a bin that is also, but the bin could get mixed up or they change so it might not always be 99 cents. Threw us also a 49 cent bin that seemed to have nice pros as well, but it's kind of deep and I wasnt in the mood to dive into it. Employees were nice. Fun place to check out. read more

Located near North Ridge subdivision, items are routinely donated by luxury homeowners, providing the store with high-end furniture and clothing for sale--some of which has never been worn and still has the original sales tags attached. There is a wide variety of gently used furniture and housewares which could furnish an apartment or house at a fraction of the cost if purchased new. Wednesday is Senior Citizens Day which provides an additional discount and there are frequent BOGO sales. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. read more

I rarely write reviews, but I love this place and what they do to employ autistic adults. I got all my plates and bowls from here, which was packed with care by two super sweet employees. Nice variety of clothes for different occasions, as well as a nice corner for DVDs, CDs, and books. I actually found one of my favorite albums, Bloodletting from Concrete Blonde, here! Furniture wise there's an okay range, but it's not a massive store and most is taken up by clothing like thrift stores tend to be. I'd recommend donating and supporting this store over Goodwill any day. This is a store with a mission that is actually followed, which is rare and very admirable. read more

I have shopped at this store for over 10 years maybe 15. It has been completely rearranged and I found nothing in the dishes dept of interest. My husband died on May 22nd 2024. Sunday May 23rd not having had look at the website first. I was told by a neighbor the the store opens at noon on Sundays. It was 93 degrees in the shade. I went in the store and I was told to drive around to the back. In the back their was broken glass all over the parking lot. I am 74 years old. In the back their is a sign put items on the table. A young man came out offered no help. I said these are VHS movie tapes, are you sure you want me to leave them in the sun. So he says put them under the table. Second worker comes out older but not old. I was him are you sure you want these in the sun. He says .. Hxxx No. I do not want them at all. Don't bring us your garbage. So I say I am 74 and my husband just died. A neighbor put them in my van to help me. Could you just put them in the garbage here. Again no. It does not say on this site that they do not take VHS tapes and I went in the store first and they had VHS tapes for sale. His response was I don't give a Damm. I said there is also glass all over the parking lot. Again: I don't give a Damm I said ya know I have lots of other nice item , mens dress shirts and nice pants , and 3 pairs of new shoes, 12 pair of new sneakers, and 2 new pairs of mens work boots. Again: I don't give a damm. I went inside and asked the managers name and phone number. I did not realize until today . The woman at the register gave me a pionts card. There is no phone number on it. When I asked the manager name she said Barbara. Then I asked could I have a pen to write Barbara on the card. I told her my story. She said I am sorry but was to convincing. They she suggeted i try another thrift store. My response. What so they can refuse the item too. No thank you. No empathy for someone grieving . Not shopping there ever again. I will find a charity that will be happy to come pick up my items. read more

If there was a ZERO rating, I would give it a ZERO. I shopped this Thrift store for many years when the original owners ran it. It was always a fun place to shop, and find really cool stuff at a fair price. The new 'owners' have overpriced everything. And the merchandising is so 'sterile' it is not at ALL appealing. The artwork is ridiculously priced for what it is...most is damaged but they are asking insane prices....for everything! (I do enjoy seeing some of the original employees. I will miss them and wish them the best of luck.) I will not be shopping there any time soon. Save yourself the time, and skip this 'thrift' store. It has turned into a 'retail' store. Hand Me Ups thrift store is a little gem on Litchford Rd Next to the Food Lion that is behind the upscale North Ridge area. Because of its location you can find some real jewels in this sweet shop. That said they are a non profit whose mission to support people with autism and other developmental disabilities makes it a particularly warm and welcoming space that is kept clean and organized. I shop thrift stores regularly and I have to say that this store has put significant COVID-19 safety measures in place. I think that it is one of the safest stores I've been in, thrift or otherwise. - They require masks for all employees and have them wash their hands thoroughly on a regular basis, masks are required for staff and customers -- but don't worry if you don't have a mask because the will graciously provide you a disposable mask free I'd charge. - There is disinfectant and wipes as you come in the door so that you can ensure any cart or basket is you use is clean. - There are directional floor markers and spacers to help ensure maximum social distancing. - There is a large plexiglass partition between the cashier and the public and then things are safely packaged and moved beyond a 6 foot distance for you to gather when you've paid for your bounty. Like all small businesses that had to close down, I'm sure they are struggling to regain their financial footing, but you would never know that because of the pleasant, helpful staff and well stocked, clean store. BTW... for the time being their always reasonably priced clothing that is sorted by gender, size and color is now on sale!!! Okay so my son loves to jump and slide. He is a rock star. As a result the knees of all of his jeans are torn up. So my husband wanted to try the bottle store next door. I am so glad I stepped into this place. I found jeans for $3 a piece. We left with 7 pairs of jeans. My son found a remote control car in mint condition for $3. Overall, a really good shopping trip. They had tons of other stuff that I did not but but it was in good shape and priced to sell. read more

Back again. Lovely staff, lovely items. Got a uniquely textured air tight glass canister for my kitchen and a bunch of ceramic and glass plates for a craft project. Staff took my treasures from my full arms to the front desk to wait for me, and items were well wrapped. Nice furniture and decor pieces, although not what I needed. Great thrift store! Went there today with my daughter. We love visiting thrift stores, and being new to the area, we wanted to check out some thrift stores near where we live. HANDmeUPS thrift store in Raleigh is well organized and things are fairly easy to see. I say "fairly" because their furniture was a little jumbled. It's easily forgivable because the staff are so nice, even reminding you what color tags to look for for 50% off merchandise. Prices are reasonable. All of their jewelry have one price - $1.99. Lots of clothes, children's items, housewares, and decor. I purchased an almost new ceramic container, a necklace (how could I not?!), and a set of coasters. So glad to support a store that supports those with autism and other developmental challenges. read more

Love this store-more the cause than the store, but I try to go regularly to support their mission. Unlike GW that CLAIMS they help people, this store actually has real live people w/ special needs working there! Warren is awesome if you run into him. Some of their prices are way too high-they compare a lot to ebay, which is not right. Think a toy little house with no accessories-priced at 15.00! 20 on ebay WITH all the pieces. So, prices of some things are not very competitive but some things are a good deal! I did find a couple blankets I purchased had holes in them once I got them home, so look things over, but great place with a great goal! read more

I am a regular in the store since the old management left and the new management started. The difference in the store has been nothing less than amazing. It was clean , organized and the employees loved Diane, the manager . It was clear to see the bond she had with them. I was there yesterday, and the store was in shambles, One of the employees was blowing a loud whistle the entire time I was there, so I kept my visit short. I asked where the manager was and I was told she left. There was clothing all over the floor , the housewares you couldn't find anything, pots on the floor, just not taken care of. The assistant manager was nowhere to be found. Finally while I was at the register she came up and just was not pleasant. read more

I enjoy this little thrift shop because the service, prices, and selection have been so great in the past, but lately their clothing options haven't been the same quality that I've come to expect. Since thrifting is always hit-or-miss, that didn't seem like a big deal. Unfortunately my last few visits have made it clear that at least a couple of resellers have discovered the place. It's annoying to not be able to browse whatever part of the store they're camped out in, and it's even more frustrating to see these folks driving the store's overall selection downhill. read more

I was a big fan of handmeups ever since they opened years ago. I've spent hundreds of hours and dollars I there, and will still come back, but, They've come under new management and there are some good changes but some that are a bit frustrating. For example, I loved the clothing section and could find my size easily, but they've decided to put all clothing together regardless of size and arrange it by colors instead. I have no time to rifle through hundreds of shirts to find one maybe in my size. So I will be buying much less clothing. Also, people buying a used sheet or blanket or towel want to look it over before the purchase. But now the new management has decided to wrap them all in plastic so it's not practical but also not impossible (I can rip the plastic off I guess) to check it out first. I do like the new displays, they've made it more creative. But most people just want to find a bargain. read more

Well-organized place with a good variety of items and friendly staff. Nice dressing rooms you rarely have to wait for. Best of all, the book section is alphabetized by author -- something I've never seen before at a thrift store. I love this store so much. The people who work and volunteer there are awesome, and they have tons of great deals every time I stop by (which is at least twice a week). If you are looking for baby and toddler items, definitely stop here. Their clothing and shoe collections are often good as well. We also donate regularly to help keep these guys around! I have spent over $500 of money in this particular store what they do is for a great cause the owner is very involved and engaging with customers he's also in charge of pricing so one particular day I go in to buy some notebooks, a curtain rod and a few other items. The roof had just arrived so it had a flea market price tag on it and the cashier looks at the owner and asks "is this your pricing" and I sarcastically stated "no it's my pricing" I was extremely offended I stated who goes into a thrift store with tape and a sharpie to change a tag. That was offensive number one then there were some notebooks that were not priced out so I thought because I didn't look in the inside of them well the owner prices then for me $0.49 for two. The cashier sees opens the notebook and sees a different price and I mentioned to her that the price wasn't put on the front of the notebook it was put on the inside. I explained to the cashier the price she was irritated because she felt I was trying to tell her what the price was when I only was trying to tell her what the owner had given me as far as pricing was concerned and she very accusatory in her language with regards to me literally taking $0.49 from the store or $0.25 from the store I was extremely offended and felt you know what this is not the place for me even though you are doing something good for people who have had disabilities I have never been treated so small and I promise that I will not give them any more of my business and I used to shop in there once every week religiously. read more

This is a terrific thrift store! Great selection, especially clothes! Parking is very convenient and the staff and volunteers are very friendly. I like their mission, which is creating jobs for adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. Was glad to see them at work, all smiles! Donating to the store is also very easy.
