We visited Handmap Brewing in Battle Creek and we were super impressed. The atmosphere, the food, the service and the prices were all spectacular. This place went above and beyond with the fine details that create a fun, classy hangout. There were TVs in convenient places so you could watch College football and there were multiple fans doing just that. The pizza was delicious. We had the chicken/pickle pizza. Unbelievable atmosphere. Place has a great vibe. Great staff. Great drinks. They had a band playing when I was there and he was legit. Played excellent songs from the 60's and 70's. Nice menu for drinks. We ordered some pizzas and they were pretty good. Any pizza with hot honey is grade A in my book. The bartender named Rena was exceptional. Super friendly and nice as can be. Great little brewery in downtown Battle Creek. Lots of delicious brews and seltzers. Limited food menu, but they have great hand tossed pizza. Live music makes this a great stop if you are in Battle Creek. They also have an outdoor patio near the entrance. read more

Rolling through Battle Creek, I thought I would stop at one of the local breweries and check out the scene. This spot opened during the pandemic and based on the hanging mugs of its Mug Club members has done an excellent job growing during these difficult times. Located in a building that has lofts above it [I think?], you walk in through a pretty nondescript door and it opens to a wonderful space. There is a small stage [no performance today] and then a long walkway with a bar to match. I tasted a few of the beers before settling on the Ruori [pronounced Roary] Red. Absolutely delicious. One interesting side note is that they don't accept cash here, card only. That was odd to me as I try to use cash at restaurants and bars so they don't get charged and CC fees and tips aren't lost for the staff. Overall, very nice brewery with good beers. What a great place full of character, energy and welcoming faces. The beer selection was vast and had a little something for everyone. Some of the tables have the ring and hook game to challenge your friends while drinking beer. The outside patio was big and looked like it would be great on our next visit. Great beer and now pizza also! Handmap has a variety of beers from sours to IPAs to stouts, and also seltzers and wine. Never had a bad beer here, but I am partial to their sours. They have snacks/apps and now pizza, which is delicious. They have had some creative pizzas including hot honey pepperoni, and also some creative beers over the years! Here is one of the hidden gems in Battle Creek. If you are looking for a drinkable brew, this is your place. The inside of the brewery is awesome. It is in a lower level of the building so it has stone walls and a bar fit the theme. The brewery does have live music that they post in their Facebook page. EVERYONE from Michigan has used their hand as a map to show where they're from, at least once in their life. And Battle Creek's nickname of the "Cereal City", only seems natural to offer a froot loop flavored beer. So the names Handmap and Two Can (toucan) hold so much meaning to us locals. After their soft openings, and curbside/online sales, I finally got inside to experience it firsthand. Meeting the awesome owners, I thought I heard them say the doors had only been open for 3 days. The main entrance is tucked away behind the outdoor patio seating. When you walk in, it's the first door on the immediate left. The brewery is a nice combination of building history and contemporary updates. Lots of beer stein mugs are already lining the ceiling. They sell out fast for the mug club, so get there quick. 10 of their exclusive drinks are on tap, including one that's a cider. The Two Can froot loop double IPA has the slight aroma but doesn't taste like Froot Loops. After a glass of that, I got stuck on the honey infused Hopbee at a solid 9%. The brewery is just getting started so there's only a few snack sized bags of chips, pretzels or the like. There isn't a kitchen for any type of food or appetizers yet, but I hear it's in the plan. Beverages are great. Bartender made some recommendations on mixing a few beers (i.e Cid & Nancy) which created additional layers of deliciousness. Bar staff is top notch, friendly, and very knowledgeable of their product. This is such a blessing to have in BC. I highly recommend the Hop Bee or Two Can (great pun in the signature Toucan bird from Fruit Loops... an ingredient in the beer and homage to the cereal roots of BC).
