There used to be a little shop called Picalilly which had great little gifts and cool items, but they long since closed. It has been over six years since I lived in the area, and while visiting for what was unfortunately my grandfather's funeral I decided to visit the old downtown again. We popped into this shop and I was so happy to see another gift shop in the area like this. While this is more mainstream than mystical, there are some really good finds here. We didn't have too much to spend but I found some adorably funny shirts in back and they happened to be on sale for $3 each. I bought two and the lady behind the counter (who told me they'd been there about five years, but most townspeople tend to not even realize they are there) threw in a hilarious Moose calendar with our purchase. We had a nice little chat, and I later told all my family (from the area and afar) about the place. Even friends whom I knew passed through the area from time to time. Great little shop, especially for the customer service and friendliness of those there. :) Already have their calendar on the wall!

We started the visit passing thru the old barn, which was filled with posters outlining the history of the property. It went from a family farm to a truly local mission of preservation. Most of the gardens are walkable over flat grassy ground, but one could climb a little hill to see more gardens. There are benches scattered around. The weather was perfect and there were lots of visitors but it didn't feel crowded There were many varieties of their plants for sale, starting at $6.95. There is also a quaint gift shop. The staff, including the director, was welcoming. There is a bathroom in the farmhouse (accessible by a few steps) If you like gardens and flowers, this is a must visit destination.

Since we were coming back down south from Wiscasset, we thought it would be a good idea to stop in Freeport and check out some of the shops. Mangy Moose was near the top of our list, so off we went. In essence, Mangy Moose is a gift shop that sells lots of souvenirs and other tchotchkes. You may be thinking that it's like every other souvenir shop in a touristy part of Maine - and I may agree with you to an extent. However, I like the fact that Mangy Moose is large and its selection is beyond what you would find elsewhere; I would argue that you would need to go to several stores to find what MM has under one roof. Clothing, jewelry, signs, books, housewares, holiday stuff, toys - it's all here. Also, the store is arranged nicely with lots of space to roam. Overall, if you're in Freeport I would definitely recommend stopping at Mangy Moose - it's a nice break from the typical outlets you find in the area and you may just leave with a little something.

What a fun little discovery on my way into town. I have passed this place a zillion times and had…read moresaid I would stop eventually. Well, stop I did, to see if they had a gift for a friend's birthday. First, I love any store that smells like balsam as you walk through the door. The scent makes me feel like a kid again. I'm not from Maine (have been here long enough to feel at home), but as a kid we used to drive here from Ohio and spend a few weeks going up and down the coast. The smell of balsam reminds me of these trips. Second, I was shocked by the variety they had. Maple syrup, Maine souvenirs, crafting supplies, wooden figurines, and antiques. The have a sign stating that they "glue chairs". I didn't know that was a thing, but apparently, it is... They also sell wreaths and Christmas trees during the appropriate season. And finally, the owners were as nice as could be. They had out hot chocolate for the kids, and they wrapped my little gift up neatly. This little shop is well worth the drive into town because of how darn cute it is!

The Blue Lobster has mugs, hats, magnets, merch and much more! I almost spent my entire check in there! Their store is spacious too so it's quite easy to move around and shop freely. I spent a good amount of time browsing. I purchased 2 long sleeve tops and a few magnets. This place is conveniently located right in downtown Portland with affordable pricing. Highly recommend!
