The burgers are a double burger as standard, and if you opt for a double burger - you get a quadruple burger. Well, blow me down... They make some seriously good grub. Me and Dan had perused the menu from Deliveroo and decided we would go for the set meal for 2 (coming in at £22.50 including delivery). This entailed 2x burgers (1x "Dirty Roo" and 1x "Just plain dirty") Burgers with 2 portions of fries and chicken wings. As we had, had a bit of back and forthing with Dirty Cow on Twitter, they had kindly offered to substitute one portion of wings for hot wings for us to try. Now, these were seriously good and recommended if you are ordering off the main menu. They were pretty saucy, but gave a good tingle on the tongue. Recommended for spice fans (but might be a bit hot if you the kind of person who prefers a korma). The food was well packed, all the different bits were separate and everything was delicious. We were so full, we couldn't move after eating. If you're hankering for a big, dirty burger on an evening, you won't go far wrong by giving these guys a try.

With the wealth of burger companies popping up in the street food scene competition is stiff and as we've been spoiled with some truly incredible burgers mediocrity really shows. But I'm delighted to say that this is far from the case with dirty cow. For £20 we were delivered two burgers, two portions of fries and two portions of hot wings. They graciously changed our order to one portion BBQ wings and one of the suicide hot wings and I'm so glad they did. The BBQ wings were smokey and sweet without being overly sickly like some BBQ wings and the suicide wings, oh man were they good! I love spice and for a moment thought these would get the better of me but I powered through and once I did the fruit spicy sauce came into its own - I even mopped up the remaining sauce with my fries! As part of the deal were two burgers: one your fairly standard beef burger topped with lettuce, pickles and tomato, the other with the same BBQ sauce as the wings, bacon and frazzles! You heard me... MOTHERFLIPPIN' FRAZZLES! This gave some really nice texture to the burger and this one was hands down my favourite. The beef patties were succulent and tasty, although could have been a little rarer in my opinion but that's not my call to make. A great addition to the Birmingham burger family and if you're down on Broad Street or in need of a burger fix at home then check these guys out. I imagine we'll see great things from them.

Just bringing the drinks and food to the table! The staff are great. They brought water to the table in what look like an old style milk bottle. It wasn't chilled but had lemon & lime slices. The music is too loud for a person wearing two hearing aids (like me). They enhance the sound of the music, but make it impossible to hear people speaking. They offered to turn the volume down, but the result wasn't much better. I left them a leaflet as produced by: Action on Hearing Loss. I had to switch the hearing aids off Drinks: 3 x Diet Cokes = £7.80 Large Pinot Grigio = £5.95 2 x 330ml bottles of San Miguel = £7.90 Total = £21.65 Now to the food. It could have been a standard Big Mac for all I knew, and wasn't worth £10.95. Quite honestly, I felt ripped off. We ordered three plates of topped fries, two types of wings, and three burgers. I also ordered a session ale, that sadly I don't remember the name of. The place was busy, so service wasn't super quick, but that's not an issue. I had the traditional normal wings, which are fried in breadcrumbs, and served with an amazing tangy ranch style sauce. Cooked perfectly. There were also some of the Asian style on the table. Which were equally as incredible. The fries, were topped with coleslaw, slightly spicy comeback sauce. Wonderfully done. The burgers got thumbs up all around. There was a buffalo and two hot head, I couldn't sing it's praises enough. My favourite chicken place to date, has been crackbird in Dublin. There's even PBR if you're looking for the complete USA experience. My friend always goes for the Buffalo Black burger, which I have to say is phenomenal. I've varied and gone for the brisket one, and the pulled pork meal. Sides include "loaded" chilli cheese fries - which deserve a mention on their own. Burnt ends (side of more meat please!) and 'slaw. It's all been good, I've not experienced a bad bit of food there. Price isn't bad, for two of us last time it was £45. That was for the two burgers, burnt ends, mac n cheese, chilli cheese fries, and four beers. I'd like to see something like a Nashville hot chicken plate on the menu with the BBQ stuff, but other than that, this place is wonderful. It sells all of the things I like. Bravo. This place generated a ton of buzz before the doors were opened mid November, so naturally I wanted to try it! After stalking their Facebook, it seemed the best time to grab a table and avoid long waits was right at opening. My dining partner and I turned up shortly after noon on a Saturday and were seated immediately. The first thing i noticed is how intimate the venue is. There really is only a handful of tables. We opted for our own high top table as stools aren't the most comfortable seating. The menu is simple and specific. I'd check it out ahead of time so you know what you're in for. I thought the servers were great. Timing of food, not as great. They were rammed but we were the first people sat for the afternoon so I'd expect less of a wait than 25 minutes for starters. We shared some wings and beef chili cheese fries. Now, I am from Buffalo, NY. The chicken wing capitol of the world. We invented and perfected chicken wings. Its hard to compete with our wings in this country. Back to the review, here the wings were left still attached which I kinda liked. Usually you find the drums and flats separated so this was actually a nice change up. I do think they needed more sauce. Ours were nice and crispy but dry. Overall they were a nice choice for a starter. Ooh and the cheese fries are lovely and served in a little baking tin. As for my main, I had a buttermilk chicken sandwich which was juicy and crispy goodness. The roll was a bit too hard for my liking. I left most of it on my plate. But the chicken was amazing. Random fact about me: I love pickles or gherkins as you Brits call them. It's always a nice surprise to see a place over here serving pickles. I asked for some on my sandwich and only got one tiny piece. Step up your pickle game Buffalo & Rye! I almost forgot to mention the cocktails!! Such wild and crazy concoctions here. I think I understand the point of Five Guys now…read more On Tuesday evening I was walking down Broad Street after an event with plenty of cocktails but not much food. I was considering popping into one of the various cheap takeaways down there but then I remembered: there is now a Five Guys on Broad Street. It's at the top of the road, near the cinema, which is a bit of a genius move. It's quick and easy to eat before watching your film. Note before. Please do not take your burger into the cinema. It's very white and bright in there. It's basically a burger fast food joint, but the aesthetic is maybe a little cleaner. The ones in Solihull and the Bullring are always full of teens but this was more relaxed, with about ten people in there. Despite it being around 10pm, it felt quite comfortable and relaxed. Saying that though, I took my food away as the bright white lights didn't make me want to eat. So, you order at the tills. You can have a burger, cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger or smaller versions of all three. There are a variety of toppings you can choose from, all included in the price. Chips are brought separately. If you're on your own you do not need a large, just have the small. Drinks are also priced separately. You may have heard about the FREESTYLE coke machine. It is quite fun. Once you've ordered, you are given an order number and then you wait at a different counter. I liked being able to watch the burgers get cooked fresh. My order was bagged up and the random extra scoop of chips thrown in and I headed off. Service was very friendly but not overly friendly throughout. It was pretty fun being able to eat it on my sofa. Pros: The burger was still hot, as it had been wrapped up well in foil. The burger was thicker and better than other fast food chains. The cheese melted perfectly. The BBQ sauce was serviceable. The pickle cut through the meat and cheese. The chips are really good- skin on fries. Cons: The bun is not very good. I've been spoilt with buttermilk and brioche and sourdough. I don't understand the extra scoop of chips. My small burger and small chips was £9.80. It's not a place I actually want to sit and eat, ever. OPM is cheaper and better. So while there are plenty of pros, so there SHOULD be for nearly £10. I feel I would have loved it when I was 14 but that's when I wouldn't have been able to afford it. I can't help feeling that all these people raving about Five Guys have never had a proper street food burger. I appreciated mine at 10pm when I was hungry and a bit drunk and I think that's what will take me back there.

The caijun chips are nice and have tried them before in another five guys restaurant, but yet again I feel that charging £2.75 for small Caijun chips is a bit too much. I don't have much of a sweet tooth but was asked by the lady serving me if I would like to try one of their special milkshakes so having heard good things about these from work colleagues I thought I'd give the Oreo milkshake a try. I was charged an extortionate price of just over £4.50 (I cant remember the exact price as it was a while ago now) for what was a normal Oreo shake which I have had in other Dessert Parlours for half that price. What I paid for small caijun chips and a milkshake was disgusting in my opinion as this is fattening fast food at the end of the day so the price should reflect that. They need to put their prices down because what they charge for what you get (mediocre tasting fast food at best) is not in any way acceptable and I did not like how the lady serving me was constantly talking to her colleagues whilst serving me, I would get in trouble for doing this at work and its very unprofessional.

There is plenty of seating, perfect for a pair or large groups. I wasn't very hungry, so I ordered the appetizer salad with pulled pork BBQ on top and shared a side of fried pickles. I was a little disappointed in the pulled pork. Being from North Carolina (home of pulled pork BBQ in the states) and eating at a place with smoke in the name, I was expecting smoked BBQ. The pork is just roasted like what you'd expect to come on a bap and lacks the tenderness that comes with slow smoking. The BBQ sauce at the table has a nice smoke flavoring added, so I was able to drown my salad in that for an approximation of the smoky flavor I craved. The salad portion is very generous and uses fresh veg. The fried pickles need a little tempura batter mixed in with the corn meal and maybe a little more time in the fryer for a better texture.

First of all, this restaurant is HUGE. Incredibly big and spacious, with an assortment of booths and tables and a huge bar. The decor of the place is awesome-- fun pieces of americana all over the place and funky graffiti all over the walls. But the highlight of every place is the food, and well, the food was just OK. I opted for a pulled pork sandwich, and a side salad instead of fries. The pork was good (mostly because they have a fantastic BBQ sauce) but definitely didn't taste slow-cooked. The salad was served without any dressing which was a bit weird, since it was huge and mostly lettuce. By the way, portions here- GIGANTIC. Come with an empty stomach! Neat selection of American beers. I don't know. I wasn't incredibly impressed, but my meal was satisfying, and the BBQ sauce is tasty. I'll have to try a few more things on the menu...

It has a nice cosy and modern atmosphere that doesn't try to be too gimmicky or distracting. Their menu is not very big, but that is usually a good sign because that means what they do have, they probably do really well! And it does. Both the burger I got and my got were fantastic. We both got an award-winning burger, and it was clear why they were award-winning. Juicy and flavourful! Based on that alone, I would rate this 4 or 5 stars - but the reason why I give it 3 stars is my perception of the lack of value. While the burgers are delicious, they aren't that big and the cost was quite high. For me, the gold standard in Brum is Five Guys, and while it is a better burger, it costs about the same despite being smaller. If I'm going to pay £15 for a burger, I'm going to want more than I got here. If that doesn't bother you, then by all means come here and get yourself a delicious burger. And to fair, I will probably come here again but the reason I mentioned above is what will stop me from coming here often.

Sunday was the launch of XP at the Mockingbird Theatre. This is a geek themed event held once a night and is a bit of a mecca for all things board game, computer game, quiz and film orientated. Naturally we had to go. I am currently on a bootcamp scheme (see http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/fit-body-bootcamp-birmingham for info), meaning I am on a strict diet of proteins, fats and No carbs. After consuming a smoothie for my breakfast and a salad for my lunch, I was starving hungry by 5pm. Everyone seemed to be either ordering pizza (a major no-no for me) or heading to Subway for their tea. I thought neither of these would be an option before a helpful person mentioned that Subway did salad bowls, problem solved... Or so I thought. Despite having all of the components of salad, Subway in Digbeth DON'T do salad bowls (and their staff are pretty unhelpful too). In a major grump, I left the store to see what else was on offer on the street. Right next door I came across Mother Clucker. Firstly, they scored a point for having a name that made me snigger, secondly... They couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. After a quick peruse of the menu I opted for lemon and herb chicken (which is served without skin). I asked if I could have some salad with this, after looking at me strangely for a minute - the guy said "Sure, we can do that. It'll be no extra charge". Winner. The chicken was cooked fresh for me as I waited and I requested some lettuce, onion and chillies (all I could have). I was even warned that the salad might be a bit rubbish as it's predominently meant for burgers, but I thought it was sweet that they warned me. My diet friendly feast was a budget busting £3.50. The guys that did end up going to Subway ended up pretty jealous of my dinner after all. This new kid on the block is sparkling clean, very friendly and super helpful. Will I be back? Even in the States, Five Guys is generally not on my radar as a quality burger place I would consider. The other thing that puts me off is the fact that it is so expensive. £15 for a burger, fries, and a drink! What a rip off. Paying a price like that, I would expect a gourmet hamburger that is plump and juicy, not skimping on the size and cooked to perfection. But alas, even though it comes with two patties, it's honestly not much bigger than a McDonald's double. But despite all this, there is something will probably keep me coming back here from time to time - it's the only thing that tastes like an American burger around here. Roll back to October last year and I was in London with the Yelp guys figuring out what to eat. As you can imagine, London has attracted many of the American burger bar chains, so you're pretty spoiled for choice in the Cap City. On our last day in London, we decided to grab an unhealthy lunch to keep us fuelled on our trips home. On recommendation, we tried Shake Shack, but I had also wanted to try 5 Guys (having heard several of my colleagues raving about their wares). This is why I was pleasantly surprised to hear that we were getting our own branch of 5 Guys in Birmingham. Being based in the Bullring means I was a little wary about how busy it would be of a lunch time, but at around 12:30 (when I had scheduled lunch with Elite Yelper Libby D.) it was pretty empty. The building is pretty massive and filled with booth and table style seating. It's decorated in white and red and has a proper "taste of the States" feel to it. The playlist is pretty good too! Everything from The Verve to Foo Fighters with plenty of "Long distance American Driving Music" chucked in for good measure. After perusing the "not so big it's confusing, but lots of choice available" menu, I opted to go for a cheeseburger whilst Libby went for a hamburger. Now, the nice gimmick of Five Guys is that you can have as many of the free toppings as you like (which, to be honest, makes the £8 price tag for a cheeseburger a little more bearable). Of course, I had to go "All the way" and try a burger with ALL of the toppings. We also went for a side of fries (Cajun for me and Five Guys Fries for Lib) and a couple of refillable sodas. Once you have placed your order and paid, you join a second queue which looks into the kitchen. The production line style kitchen is a joy to watch! With about 8 fryers, huge burger grills and watching everything be constructed; it's pretty impressive. I could tell when mine was being made as it barely fit into the foil they package in! Every burger has 2 patties as standard and you can opt to go bunless if you want to avoid the additional carbs. We received our order within a couple of minutes of paying and grabbed a booth to enjoy our lunch. My burger was a treat! Loaded with gherkins, cheese, onions, mushrooms and the obligatory tomato and lettuce; it was a total beast. The fries were pretty good too, although a little salty for my liking and just thrown in the bag rather than being served in a receptacle. The soda machine is an experience in itself! All sodas are refillable and there are 127 different types of fizzy drink to choose from! I went for grape Fanta (which I had never seen before) and Libby opted for vanilla cherry Coke. There are also complimentary monkey nuts of offer (if you have the smallest amount of room after your ridiculous burger). I was definitely impressed. The price for mine and Libby's meals was £24, which was quite steep for burger, fries and soda, however I wasn't then hungry again until around 10pm. I would definitely recommend a visit if you have a hankering for unhealthy, but I don't think it will be -too- regular an experience for me.
