Flavor update. Still good customer service, just taking notes on flavors for my future self Peanut butter parfait was fine. Mild chocolate flavor with a little bit of peanut butter ribbon. My daughter says cotton candy was really good and she loved it. Tasted like cotton candy. She says birthday cake had some blue thing in it she didn't like (?). My son says peanut butter brownie had lots of real peanut butter but not much brownie. He says green monster was good but not enough Oreo. read more

During our vacation to Oregon we were on an ice cream kick so Handel's was one place we tried in Bend. They have many flavors but my kids love anything cotton candy or bubble gum so cotton candy was their choice this time. Thankfully you can buy a platter of 4 scoops for the 4 kiddos we had. The place has a good selection of flavors on their wall where they go behind the counter to scoop up. The guy we got was pleasant and patient while the kids were ordering. There were some seats outside we could sit down and enjoy the scoops. Some places with very hard melted ice cream were apparent on the table. I got the blueberry cobbler. No good cobbler salty pieces I was hoping for. The cotton candy had chocolate chips in it which the kids weren't a fan of and the color was off. read more

We love Handel's! Super great flavors and options to choose from. It seemed to be a popular place as well with a longer line. Sadly they had no seating inside (it was kind of of cold to eat outside) and the portions seemed a bit small for the price, but the flavors were SO good. Also it was sad you could only get one flavor in the small (even thought it was two scoops). Overall, great experience. Nothing fancy here though, just great ice cream! read more

If you're anywhere near this ice cream shop, do yourself a favor and stop in--this place is incredible! The flavors are rich, creative, and perfectly balanced, from classic favorites to fun seasonal surprises. The shop is spotless, cozy, and smells like freshly made waffle cones (which taste even better than they smell!). But the real standout is Isaac. If you ever find yourself at Handles, do yourself a favor and ask for Isaac! He's one of those rare people who immediately makes your day better the moment he greets you. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely personable, Isaac has a way of making you feel like you're a regular--even if it's your first time walking through the door. His service is always spot-on: quick without feeling rushed, helpful without being pushy, and consistently thoughtful. Isaac remembers the little details, checks in at the perfect moments, and carries the kind of positive energy that elevates the whole experience. As always- super! Super great customer service, sparkly clean, and lots of Yummy ice-cream flavors to choose from. I had the warm Apple Dumpling dessert with carmel apple sauce, topped with my choice of 3 flavors. Whoah--a huge portion! Should've split it with my hubs. It's pretty good ice cream for the price. We tried blueberry cobbler and banana & graham crackers. We could tell visually and taste that real fruits were used in the daily making of the ice cream. The teenage employees were very friendly. It was a wo derful way to cool off in 90 plus degrees weather. read more

The ice cream was good, but they don't allow you to do multiple flavors even though there's multiple scoops available. I'm not sure what that's about or if it's employee discretion (the person was alone but there wasn't a line). Doesn't seem as inviting (a few high bar stools) but the place is big enough to hold more seating (even a booth or two). I wouldn't go through the trouble of going out of my way for it but would return if I'm in the area. read more

Fantastic!! Yes it's more on the soft side than grocery store tubs, but not a reason to not enjoy these amazing flavors!! We've had pumpkin, knot your average dough (pretzel), graham central station, s'mores and fudge ripple brownie. All were fantastic!! Looking forward to our next visit this week. read more

OMG Hubby brought a strawberry milkshake home when I wasn't feeling well - I love ice cream when feeling bad. This was/is " too die for goodness" !!! We can't wait to try ALL of the flavors and different menu items. Sooooo many choices- YUM South end of Bend but so worth the drive if you are further north and if you live close by, lucky you I really don't think I've ever had a better milkshake. Way to go! Keep it up!!! read more

This place makes no sense. You can choose between 3 sizes of which "small=3.5 scoops" "medium=4.5 scoops" and "large=5.5 scoops". FIRST of all, why in the world isn't there just a ONE or TWO scoop option. SECOND, you are only allowed to pick one flavor if you get a small.... Even though it's 3.5 scoops. If you want TWO FLAVORS, you have to pick the medium... 4.5 scoops. Why do I need to have 4.5 scoops of ice cream in order to get 2 flavors? I go to other ice cream shops where you can get ONE SCOOP and they will split it into two flavors for me just fine. THIRD, how and WHY are you doing HALF SCOOPS as a standard measurement. Beyond this nonsense- 1. Bathroom requires asking for a key 2. There is no drinking fountain 3. The place is huge with plenty of space and there are ZERO tables for sitting. There is a standing level counter with a few high bar stools stuffed in the corner with a counter that has a great view of the wall that's about 12 inches in front of your face. 4. You can't even view the ice cream flavors. They are in solid metal containers that only the employees can see into. So the fun of looking at the flavors- NOT a thing here. You simply choose your ice cream from a word description, there's not even a picture. 5. The waffle cones were so hard that they hurt our mouths and made my boyfriend's tongue bleed. Overall, The ice cream quality is fine and I would order it for a delivery I guess. But when I go out for ice cream, it's about the experience, and I would definitely rather go ANYwhere else in town. As adults we hated it, I couldn't even imagine bringing kids to somewhere that they can't see flavors or have anywhere to sit. read more

The ice cream is delicious buuuuuut... I waited behind the sign that read "Please Wait to be Called Forward" for about fifteen minutes. There were four people working and there was one customer in line ahead of me. I think they must've had a ton of online orders because everyone seemed busy but the line was not moving. A couple came into tue store, walked right past the sigh and me and went right up to the counter. The workers served them while ignoring me. It's now been 20 minutes and I'm still in line. Waiting...I started this review with two stars and now it's one. read more

Very friendly employees and fast service. The line you wait In to be served is in a weird place though. The sign says wait here, but the large menu is facing another direction so you cannot choose your selection until you are at the counter. Seems like it would be better facing the line where you wait. Absolutely the best ice cream in town. The service was friendly and the wait wasn't too long on a Saturday night. Be patient with the employees, realize you can't sample the flavors nor sit down inside and you will enjoy this ice cream. Ice cream was delicious but service was EXTREMELY SLOWWWW. This place is SEVERELY understaffed AND needs to work on training employees better. The cashiers are dragging their feet and doing other things but tend to their customers. While one was very nice and helpful the other two were twiddling their thumbs looking for useless things to do while the line was out the door. Ridiculous to have to wait so long for a cone of ice cream. Come on! read more

I have to agree with the other reviews: their system is not working. Waits are unnecessarily long. Line is often confusing and poorly managed. Their staff is spending a disproportionate amount of time filling online orders. Brock and mortar customers are not greeted, adding to the frustration. Ice cream is fine enough but relies on sugar rather than quality of ingredients. Todays Hurricane has a comically small amount of Snickers in it. It's close, but I'd generally still rather drive to Bonta. read more

they told me they were out of my favorite ice cream and then after i had already gotten a different flavor a different worker got out my favorite ice cream abd restocked it!!! do not ask for banana ice cream they won't have it. i was very furious!!! one of the workers is too lazy to check the back to see if they have your ice cream. read more

I never write reviews but my family and I were very disappointed. My sisters and I came to this ice cream place because as one does we wanted to have some ice cream. As we were waiting we noticed that the white blonde worker was only helping out white people and we were in front of the line and she would hand pick people that were white to help them out and ask them for their order it's sad to see that we're in 2023 and racism still exists. If it wasn't noticeable we are proud Hispanic women that just wanted ice cream. read more

The ambiance is sterile and lacks comfortable indoor seating. The outdoor seating is in the bright afternoon sunlight. The ice cream is average, ok, but nothing special. The service gets the job done but sterile, like the location. I was sad because we could use a good ice cream parlor on the south end of Bend. read more

This place can't hold a candle to Bonta. On par with local Eberhard's - which is better than most mass produced ice cream - and more expensive. They have (e.g.) chocolate flavored ice cream - not chocolate ice cream. They also don't allow tastings and since stuff is flavored and not pure, you have no idea if it's any good. Not worth the trip. read more

Fantastic ice cream- isn't that the whole point?!? Can't sample and there is limited seating available. But the ice cream is so good! The hurricane is fun (like the McFlurry). Can even take pints to go. If the line is long (because it's hard to make delicious decisions), just be patient. Clean facility. read more

They even have a legitimate Little Jem ice cream mixer. Their menu is really simple, with only two types of base, one vegan, one dairy, and four different fruits. They offer two different sizes, but I'm not sure how much larger the regular is vs. the small. The little display in the front doesn't make the regular seem much larger. Perhaps they should actually display the volumes to make it clear? Regular, Vanilla Base, Marionberry ($8.50) - They use a really, really stretchy base here, stretchier than most ice creams that I've ever eaten, almost like it has mastic gum added. Other reviews mention they use Tillamook as the base, but I'm a little skeptical. Tillamook is certainly stretchy since they use guar gum as a stabilizer, but I can't recall it being quite that stretchy! I believe most other NZ real fruit ice cream places use sweet cream as the base to really allow the fruit flavors to shine, but Birdsong uses vanilla, which adds a delightful note that enhances rather than covers up the fruit. It's a complementary flavor and works very well together, although I personally still prefer having sweet cream only. The fruit is blended in very well so there aren't any icy pieces at all, with the only textural difference coming from a small bit of crunch from the seeds in the marionberries. It's otherwise a sweet, berry fruity dessert. I guess the one downside is that the portion size is kind of lacking for the price. I get more from the real fruit ice cream places in Seattle for cheaper, despite Seattle being much higher cost of living. (4/5) Birdsong serves a pretty decent representation of New Zealand real fruit ice cream, at least to my limited knowledge! It's certainly worth a try, if not just as a sweet frozen treat.
