Absolutely amazing experience. If you want a complete Omakase, this is the place to go in Orange County. A personalized and authentic pairing experience, I couldn't have asked for more. It isn't too formal, despite it being my first experience I felt comfortable and more than happy to be here. Don't miss this hidden gem.

Such an incredible, tasty, informational and joyous experience. So grateful to have found Hanaka and be able to attend their omakase tasting. I cannot rave about this place, the food, the sake, Hiro and Yuka enough! It's an intimate dining experience that you really can't find anywhere else. Cant wait to go back and bring friends!!

I really had an incredible experience here. It was my first omakase experience and everything prepared by chef Hiro was perfection, every flavor was perfectly balance and the order of the food was exceptional. Our host also created such a fun and exciting atmosphere and the owner was available through zoom to guide the experience as well and educate on sake pairings (I believe the owner is usually available at the omakase and this was an exception, but our host did a great job). Amazing experience with amazing food, I can't wait to come back. It was my anniversary with my partner and they even prepared a little cake - this personalization meant a lot to us as the other dinners we attended for our anniversary did not have this level of thoughtfulness. Can't recommend this place enough!!!

Fun little spot for sake tasting! There's also a wide selection of items for sale. The sake sets are really pretty and the price range for Sake bottles is very reasonable. I've been here 3 times now, and have enjoyed every visit. This place is definitely a hidden gem, great for solo drinks, a date, or just a small hangout with friends and family. Each month, the menu list changes :) which is great for someone like me that likes variety.

Best Sushi and Sake Experience in Orange County. They have very limited openings, for the private Sushi and Sake tasting so book well in advance

South OC's hidden gem uncovered! We stumbled upon this place waiting for our pizza from the same plaza (Brooklyn where you at?!) We were actually walking towards the Greek market and noticed SAKE TASTING. Let's just say we never made it to the market. This place has a wide selection of sake and a very knowledgeable owner who is more than willing to help with suggestions and drop some knowledge when it comes to sake. Hoping to normalize sake drinking and make it less confusing when deciding what to select, Hanaka brings a great selection and great atmosphere. The back of the retail store has a tasting room which has some food selections and sushi on the weekends. We will definitely be back to try different bottles and just chop it up with the owner. Support small business!

With only seating for 8 at the bar and only doing 2 seatings per week, Thursday and Saturday nights, this place will be in high demand. The 15 courses, 3 appetizers paired with sake followed by 12 pieces of perfectly prepared fish were amazing. The chef and owner / sake sommelier were knowledgeable and very friendly. This intimate place is not about over paying for decor. The food and sake are the stars of the show.

Omg I wish I know this place earlier!! They have so many sake selection and sake tasting. The owner is so nice and the sake is so good. You will be able to taste variety sake that you will never have at restaurant. I am going to be the owner bff!

You can buy sake at Japanese supermarkets, but only HANAKA can do tasting at Orange County!

There's a lot of places to eat, but I wanted to try Rancho because I saw them in San Clemente. This location is bigger and there's a nice outdoor patio. The hostess was friendly and excited it was our first time. She gave us a great table away from the other diners. It's just better for Cako. Jane was our server and one of the best! Made a couple of recommendations for lunch, but we saw the steak frites and well, I'm always down for a good steak frites. We also tried the fig bruschetta. This was delicious, though I was hoping for real figs instead of a fig jam. But it all worked nicely with the cheese, arugula, and balsamic. The steak came out and was very tender and had an herb butter that was soooooo good! I loved the salad that came with, spring mix with strawberries, blueberries and dried cranberries. I also like putting the butter on the fries....soooo good! We chose the Trestles Tempranillo and it was the perfect pairing with everything! They have a dog menu and Cako got a chicken and rice bowl, which she loved. The patio is a great place on a sunny day. They do have umbrellas and a covered area but it's all very pleasant. Jane took really great care of us! All the staff were friendly! Unfortunately, I didn't have room for dessert. Maybe next time! Cako Approves!

The service was fantastic, the staff was very attentive, and the wine was great. The whiskey Bundt cake was absolutely to die for! Unfortunately, the ribeye was a disappointment. I ordered it medium rare, but it came out closer to medium well, and four plates were served incorrectly. To their credit, they fixed it right away and were very kind to offer a complimentary glass of wine, which was appreciated. Even with the great service, I was still disappointed with the ribeye. It lacked the char and flavor I've come to expect from the San Clemente location. The difference in how the steaks are prepared between the two locations was night and day. I'll definitely continue supporting Rancho Capistrano, but I hope this location can bring the ribeye up to the same standard.

I've attended their trivia nights, and they were a blast--well organized, engaging, and a perfect activity for a group of friends. The drinks are fantastic. On my most recent visit, I had the opportunity to beta test one of their murder mystery events, and it was such a unique and entertaining experience. It added a whole new level of fun to the evening and made for a memorable night out. If they offer the murder mystery event again, I highly recommend checking it out. It is a small and lively restaurant that was full. We started with a kale salad was large and flavorful with a fresh citrus dressing and delicate accents on the greens. The branzino (sea bass) was presented beautifully with a delicious truffle sauce. Deboned perfectly but with a crispy skin left on, it did not disappoint. The desserts were masterpieces in both flavor and appearance. The Oh Beehive was primarily a graham cracker base with a cheesecake-like lemon mousse covered with toasted meringue. The honey ice cream scoop on the side was divine. And the Brown Butter Rum Cake was moist and sweet. The coconut and ash ice cream paired well. A special meal that we'll remember fondly.

The only minor hiccup happened at the beginning. I had called ahead requesting one of the window tables for our birthday celebration because I knew the restaurant has a long, narrow layout where many tables face the wall. Unfortunately, when we arrived there was some miscommunication about the reservation. After speaking with manager Michael, he was gracious enough to work with us and found a solution. I really appreciated that he listened instead of simply saying no. Once that was resolved, everything else was fantastic. Our server Sergio was excellent--professional, friendly, attentive, and paced the meal perfectly. The food was the highlight. We ordered several appetizers to share, including the Hamachi Sashimi, Beef Carpaccio, Roasted Heirloom Beet Salad, Spanish Octopus, and Halibut Ceviche. Every single one was beautifully plated and packed with flavor. None of the dishes missed. For our entrées, we had the Garganelli and the Cavatelli pastas, both outstanding with rich flavors. They were slightly salty, but exactly how I enjoy them. We also ordered the pork chop, which everyone else at the table absolutely loved. The restaurant surprised us with complimentary birthday ice cream, and we also ordered two desserts. The ice cream deserves special mention--it was unbelievably creamy and flavorful, honestly one of the best restaurant ice creams I've ever had. It vanished before I even managed to snap a photo. A couple of things to know before you go: * Parking is difficult, but that's simply Laguna Beach. * Corkage is on the expensive side: $40 for the first bottle and $50 for the second ($10 more for each additional bottle). Overall, Broadway impressed us with creative, beautifully executed food, warm hospitality, and attentive service. Thanks to Michael and Sergio for helping make our birthday celebration a memorable one. We look forward to returning.
