Spicy tuna roll - it had a lot of tuna and the flavor wasn't too strong! Shrimp tempura roll - this roll was amazing and it was huge, the tempura shrimp was crunchy, had a lot of flavor! Absolutely LOVE Hana. It's always hard to choose between the hibachi or sushi here, because both are so delicious! Their hibachi portion is massive, enough for two to share. It comes with fried rice, veggies, noodles, and your choice of protein (steak, shrimp, chicken). The hibachi is TO DIE FOR. There are no hibachi tables, they make everything in the kitchen. They also have a wide selection of sushi on the menu, from traditional rolls to more elaborate ones. Our waiters have always been really good and I have never had a bad experience. Wow. I wish we didn't wait so long before trying out Hana Sushi because our experience was truly incredible. We started off with the Japanese soda (strawberry) which was really cool, but the staff should tell you how to open it! We had no idea and had to google it. Then we got crab rangoons which came with a little sweet chili sauce. These were perfectly fried and so creamy inside - so good, didn't even need the sauce although it was good as well. We couldn't decide on our entrees so we got a bit of everything - shrimp lo mein, volcano roll, Hawaiian roll, king crab roll, spicy scallop roll, and Fuji roll. We were blown away by all of it, but the star was the king crab roll which is topped with spicy krab salad and baked scallops. The king crab inside the roll was identifiable in huge chunks and was so fresh and tasty. The Hawaiian roll was the most interesting, since it was very sweet and topped with mango sliced very thin. We would for sure order that again since I have never seen this on any other menu. The shrimp lo mein had huge shrimp and was a heaping portion. The Fuji roll was deep fried, but was not greasy and had the best tempura texture on the outside. All of the rolls came with really delicious sauces on top. We will definitely be back to try more, as we were impressed with every single item we ordered. Our server let us know he was brand new, but he was on top of things. The inside is beautiful and simple, but very clean. My only complaint is that the booths on the left side of the restaurant are quite small compared to any other restaurant in Gainesville. Hana is one of those places where I feel ppl who don't have picky palettes will be happy. My experience here was fine, but for me I wouldn't go back. Flavor wise, everything was basic. I see the ratings and I also see the patrons and I understand. Those with an elevated taste, will do fine here, but we know yummy and flavor when we have it. I got takeout from Hana one night, ordering the spicy crunchy krab roll, the spicy yellowtail roll, tofu pad thai, and vegetable lo mein. The sushi rolls were packaged neatly into one of those trays you'd see sushi in at the grocery store. The taste was pretty average, as was the price, which was surprising given Hana is located in the expensive Celebration Pointe. The lo mein interestingly came some vegetables you don't normally see mixed in, like zucchini and large strips of green pepper. The pad thai had the best flavor though, making it quite notable. Overall I would return for the pad thai but I don't think the sushi is worth it. I look forward to trying Hana out in person. read more

I was craving sushi, so I decided to give Hana a try. When we arrived, they gave us a buzzer and told us it may take about 20 minutes for a table. After about 20 minutes, they came and asked us all for the number on our buzzers, but I guess they had written the number down wrong, but after some confusion they seated us. The booth where I sat had a ripped seat cushion, a flickering light above, and also a back that kept shaking whenever anyone in the booth behind me moved, so that was pretty annoying. I was also a bit unsure why they had a TV show about murder cold cases with disturbing images playing when it is probably not the most appetizing show to watch while eating. Our server, Alex, was great. He made sure to be clear about everything, from if we wanted lemon our waters to asking if we minded if the udon stir fry came out first rather than waiting for the sushi to be ready. I am glad we said yes to that last question, because we were quite hungry and the sushi ended up taking a very long time to come out. The udon was tasty and a good texture, but I had to control myself from eating too much while waiting for the sushi. When we received the sushi, it was a bit of a let down. The bonzai roll was decent, but the other rolls we ordered such as the gator roll were not so good, especially at the price point we paid for them here. I was thinking of ordering sashimi, but I'm glad that I didn't based on the quality of the sushi rolls I had received. Overall, I just think the price was a bit too high and the quality a bit too low compared to what I was hoping for. read more

I recently went to this restaurant for a bit of food with some friends. I enjoyed the food, and when we are out in that area we will certainly consider it again. First, the food. I ordered the volcano roll and some dumplings, and they were quite good. The cooked seafood placed on the volcano roll was different from what I usually get with this particular order, so that was a nice change. The wait staff were pleasant, but there was nothing special about it. We were handled fine with no problems. The place is setup with a lot of neon and pastels, aiming for the younger crowd that tends to show up in this part of town. They are definitely going for a trendy vibe, more nightclub than traditional Japanese sushi bar. Sadly that is not really my kind of thing, as the food is good. One last thing to mention is their website. So we have visited here on two occasions so far and both times have been extremely satisfied. Our food has been yummy, the prices are on point and the service fabulous. Both times we have gotten sushi and I will update whenever we try the hibachi. I am very picky about both the consistency/density of sushi rice and the amount of it provided. I feel like Hana has this ratio down very well. Our first visit, they had only been open about a week and they were understandably a little slow. Tldr; my Japanese mother approves--and she actually heard this place was good from a fellow Japanese friend in Gainesville :) My grandparents have a more western taste pallet & Hana sushi had really good options for them (chicken teriyaki) -- and the family all tried a piece and said the chicken was really good :) Since we're Japanese, we're always looking for a good sushi place that my mother would approve of and this is the first location she enjoyed. She got a salmon roll and loved it! The table next to us got a sashimi deluxe and my mother decided that would be her next order when we come back. As a vegetarian this place was pretty good!
