I came to Han Dynasty on a Saturday night and was able to get a pretty last minute reservation. We ordered a dan dan noodle, a vegetable appetizer with shiitake mushrooms, and the cumin lamb as our main. We received the dan dan noodle and the vegetable dish pretty quickly, but the cumin lamb never came. The staff kept telling us the kitchen was backed up and the cumin lamb would be coming soon, but over an hour later and we were still without our lamb. We decided to cancel our order and go to another stall in the marketplace. I had my hopes up from other reviews, but was ultimately disappointed in the service. read more

After a long wait at the airport and having our flight canceled, we ended up back in Downtown Brooklyn for more night. We decided to take a walk and found the food hall and came across Han Dynasty. Wow!! The service was amazing, our server Laura, took the time to explain the most famous items on the menu along with her personal favorites. Our food came out quickly and was filled with flavor. Ahhh, Han Dynasty. The space is the one of two full fledge restaurant concepts inside DeKalb market. It's the same menu as the Han Dynasty we all know and love in the East Village. Not everything on the menu here is my favorite, but I will say, one of my favorite things I've ever eaten is from this restaurant. The eggplant and garlic sauce is truly remarkable. I love eggplant in general, it's one of my favorite vegetables. But the garlic sauce... It's kind of like drugs. And I'm fully addicted. It's the most remarkable flavor combination. My favorite thing to do is get an order of the garlic eggplant to go, and fry myself an egg at home. Other menu highlights, the cucumber salad, the pork and string beans, and some dry pot options. I'll admit I first tried Han Dynasty only because it's the taste place that's open past midnight, but wow, it really exceeded our expectations. It's rare to find a restaurant that produces authentic Sichuan food AND also has a good selection of green vegetables, AND isn't overly greasy. Han Dynasty delivers all three. Plus if anybody in your party can't handle spicy food, that's no problem either. They'll adjust to your desired spice level, even if that level is zero -- and the food will still be flavorful (looking for an interesting dish that's mild? My friend and I dropped by this BK location for Han Dyanasty on a Friday night. The wait was really short (10 minutes) compared to the normal Manhattan wait times. We enjoyed a fantastic meal, because the restaurant had a ton of open spots, we were able to stay and chat for a long period of time which we appreciated! If you are looking for really spicy Szechuan food, maybe look elsewhere. Han Dynasty is a great tasty modern Szechuan spot but is a little more tame on the spice. I expected myself to be crying after ordering one of their spiciest dishes - the dry pot, but that wasn't the case. We got: Dan dan noodles (6/10 spice level) - got this appetizer and ate it like an entree. It was tasty with its chili/peanut sauce. I do wonder if they could have added more sauce to up the spiciness Eggplant w/ garlic sauce (3/10 spice) - a classic executed with lots of flavor and a great pairing to our noodles and the bowl of rice the dish came with Dry pot w/ fish (10/10 spice) - the fish is really good! I think the spice level was definitely tame for their spiciest level, but I was happy with it being tamer and not needing some milk based drink to quench the spice. Dry pepper chicken wings (8/10 spice) - the skin on the wing was super crispy and freshly deep fried - a tasty appetizer Overall, Han Dynasty is a great spot for a chill meal with some spice. One of my favorite spots when I'm craving Sichuan food (which happens a lot). We generally order delivery from this location since it's the closest one to us but have dined in once as well. For dine-in, though it's located in Dekalb Market, they have a proper, fairly large dining area and is definitely a bustling spot. Service was pretty good overall. Now, on to the food: Our favorites include their Dry Pot Fish, Hot Sauce Style (have had both fish and shrimp), Garlic Sauce Shrimp (really good!), Dan Dan Noodles (no meat), and Fried Rice. All of this seriously hits the spot every time! My only couple downsides are that it can get a little loud inside and that it's a bit pricey (although similar to other Sichuan restaurants). Regardless, this would be a great place to bring someone from out of town! Overall, if you're looking for good Sichuan food and you're near one of many Han Dynasty locations, I promise you'll be more than satisfied! read more

Like something out of the frozen section in a grocery store. The service was a 0 out of 10 also in terms of our waitress. We saw her twice, and one of those times was due to us having to ask for her. Never checked on anything. Barely interacted with us at all. Not friendly or warm whatsoever we barely even got greeted. The cleaning team was on top of their stuff though. Working their butt off going from table to table as fast as possible. A+ for them but overall I definitely wouldn't come back here. The food is rather authentic to traditional Chinese flavours but the ambience and style of the overall restaurant and concept screams fusion. If you can't finish, it holds up well for a day or two 2) long pepper with beef: has a pinch of spice and also pairs well with rice, like the eggplant dish, has good reheat value 3) three cup chicken: this traditional dish by flavour should be a bit crisp, this restaurant has the sauce down but the crisp takes away from it and makes it a tad bit dry Given the lack of many good authentic local Chinese that do this sort of regional cuisine, if you are in the local area and you need a bite of Chinese, this is a place for you. Otherwise, if you are willing to travel, there are a couple other ones that should be on your radar! Terrible. When Han Dynasty first came to NYC from Philly many years ago it was one of my favorite restaurants. Now it's just a shell of what it was. Spicy dry pot chicken (fried) was mushy and had no flavor: I ordered EXTRA spicy level 10++ and it had less heat than a buffalo wing. Not only didn't it not taste spicy but just didn't have flavor at all. The sesame noodles were a disgrace, Trader Joe's make at home sesame noodles are by far much better. These were congealed, and had no sauce or flavor. It was like a tub of plain spaghetti. I hate 1/3 of it out of desperation and left the rest $50 thrown away for no reason. I could have gotten better food at a hood joint down my block. Such a shame it changed so so so much. read more

Pretty good food, relatively typical options. Dan Dan noodles were best, with great amount of heat. Lo mein was extra oily. Tofu was done very well. Scallion pancakes were good, but a bit too oily without enough crisp so they were slightly too chewy and gummy. A good portion of the dumplings were falling apart, but this is likely due to how it was packed up to go, which is hard to get right so can't complain. It's not my first time at the Brooklyn Location. I noticed unfamiliar faces. Thinking it's under new management. I a writing because the server (girl with eyeglases) was inattentive. My dish arrived before my drink. The manager did offer a complimentary drink for the inconvenience. As a result, my dining experience was disappointing, and it negatively impacted my evening. I suggest that the staff receive additional training to ensure better service and quicker response times. I love this gem. Fresh food always. I love that each dish can be customized for spice/heat level. My not so spicy loving friends can come dine and I can ramp up the heat in my dishes to the highest levels. The food is always flavorful and fresh . Came here after work and happened to get there just in time to catch the lunch special which was $19.90 for lunch entrees + one cold app + one hot app. I selected the Salt & Pepper Shrimp which was great. I've never had it, so I didn't know what to expect. It was pretty tasty, but I still added their chili oil and some soy sauce which kicked the flavor profile up a notch. The spicy cucumber was pretty meh, and the veggie fried dumplings were good. What was even better was my server - she was super attentive and really pleasant.
