I recently attended a conference there. I was a part of the team and as a participant, the space was clean, open with art and fountains, with the hotel, right beside it that you could walk to under a cover when it was raining. If you need it, they provide food. It's pretty basic but well enough. I was also very surprised and thrilled that the bathrooms were plentiful for a crowd and exceptionally clean. If you're looking for a venue I highly recommend reaching out to them. read more

The Hampton Roads Convention Center hosted the Hampton Wine and Spirit Expo over the weekend and it was an incredible event. Wineries from near and far were in attendance showcasing all different types of wines and we had the pleasure of tasting them all. Other vendors were there as well offering items such as beef jerky, international snacks, popcorn, cupcakes, candles and other miscellaneous goods. The event space also had food and drinks available for purchase as well. As my friend and I were sampling the wines, it was awesome to get to know the owners and hear about how the businesses came about. The owner of Rosemond Vineyards (out of Fredericksburg, VA) happened to go to a wine tasting and was inspired to make wines herself which is how her business came about. I just loved her story and definitely purchased a bottle of her wine. The awesome thing about these events is being able to try wines and sprits that you normally wouldn't try and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed some of them. By the end of the event, I purchased 5 bottles of wine and I absolutely cannot wait to enjoy them all. The Expo offered VIP tickets that included table reservations so we definitely plan on purchasing those tickets next time to have a place to sit but all-in-all, it was a great event and I look forward to the next one. read more

Definitely a really nice convention center. When you think about others, it may not be as luxurious, but this was a smart investment for the area. Was lucky enough to be in the hotel next door, as there could be more parking spots. It's a guess but if this and the nearby Coliseum have events, that will make getting in an absolute challenge. Your best bet is to stay next door, or at other hotels within walking distance. The ballroom is huge. Also it has fairly comfortable tables and chairs. Am not sure what total room capacity is, but large organizations will like this. As for the smaller rooms, these offer a spot too. Definitely be ready to walk. There were a lot of footsteps everyday, which for me is a healthy thing. read more

We attended the Jazz Legacy Foundation events and had a superb time at the convention center. The menu selections were fantastic (THAT BREAD PUDDING!) the staff worked quickly and were very friendly. Kudos to the chefs and staff. You could see freshly cooked food being added, having a display of the selections was very helpful. We hope the Keels keep this option for dinner service, along with the variety of artists it made our visit excellent! read more

I've been coming here for the last couple of years for the Nike tournament that is hosted by Boo Williams. I love the new additions of the wi-fi stations and hi-top tables in the lobby. I was working in between games and this new area gave me a nice space to dig in, efficiently. The security and ticket attendants are always pleasant and help the crowds get into the makeshift gym quickly. The bathrooms are clean and the snack bar attendants are polite and quick with orders, especially with very long lines at their stations. read more

Super cool convention center! It was my first visit to Hampton to run the Crawling Crab Half Marathon and the health and wellness expo was held here. The convention center does not look very old - the building is modern and there is ample parking around the site (shares it with the coliseum). The very first thing you will probably notice about the convention center is the unique roof structure they chose at their front door. The structural fabric not only makes the structure unique looking, but very functional as well (a covered area for driving up and picking up people). I was fascinated by the cables and anchors that are massive and placed in front - no roping off or anything, so you can go right up and touch the hardware. There is a beautiful fountain in front of the convention center and some pretty cool "photo op" spots. One of the fountains have a small walkway on it so you can be inches away from a shallow pool of water. Inside, the space is clean and modern with lots of artwork on the walls and plenty of seating - it reminded me of a small airport (minus all the security). Overall a very beautiful space. The exhibit hall were the expo was held was cavernous and I can see various other events being held in the space. Hampton is very lucky to have this convention center - someone was obviously planning correctly when they placed/designed this structure. read more

Great location for events. Staff and security are polite and they do a great job at keeping it clean during busy events such as the volleyball tournament I attended in Jan 2018. A bonus for my family is that they allowed us to park our RV in the parking lot for the weekend. We were respectful by leaving no trace to be sure the privilege would not be lost for future campers. The only gripe I have that I would not let affect my 5 star is the fact they use embassy suites for their food vendor and their coffee is like drinking river water. The concession stand also charges $1.00 for each swipe of a debit or credit card. For a $2 cup of coffee this is high so I avoided all concessions. read more

We came here today for a train show. The facility was easy to drive to, there were plenty parking spaces, and it was beautifully decorated inside. We never went upstairs, but there were ballrooms and more space for events. The employees were very friendly. Inside the train event room, they had concessions they were reasonably priced. I'm definitely looking to attend more here at the convention center. read more

Came here for work conference. Overall, the outside of the building is gorgeous with water fountains. Inside of the building is well maintained. Gorgeous layout. Very nice, sleek modern convention center. I have been there every year 2-3 times a year for 4 years now. The layout is lovely from the design outside, so the design inside. Part of the building is lovely an intimate for smaller meetings, weddings, receptions, etc. The main part of the building is the regular convention center floor which is just like any other convention center anywhere. Large open space for an expo or trade show. The thing that I do not understand is the parking. The main front part of the building has NO parking in front of it. Every year when we do our event, the parking is the issue. There is only a limited amount of spaces in front of the halls a b c, most of it is on the end of the building. Which is completely a mess if you have older guests, or the format of your event involves people carrying things in and out of the building. read more

The HRCC is a great place for any event. I have attended four events here and each time the venue is clean and well organized. They have many large spaces for receptions, balls, parties, business conventions, anime conventions and more! Parking is ample and close to the building. It is right next to the Hampton Coliseum and practically adjoined to Embassy Suites of Hampton Roads. The new Hampton Roads City Center shopping is just down the road and there are plenty of eateries and gas stations nearby. The location couldn't be better! Inside the decor is super modern. Glass partitions and clean, brushed steel compliment the high open ceilings and the outer wall made of tinted window. An aesthetically pleasing tent is erected against the windowed wall to block debris (I assume from our horrendous hurricane seasons) and to provide shade from the late afternoon sun. Out front are a variety of cool water features including a waterfall fountain. Inside the theme is carried through to the staircase that holds on its center landing a pretty gurgling water centerpiece. There are also escalators and elevators for your convenience. Restrooms are on practically every corner and the halls are wide and spacious, partially carpeted. Everything is clean and fresh inside, and the walls are free of grunge and stains. I enjoy every event I have been to here. From Military Wives Gala to a Gun Show to a local Anime Convention- this venue can cater to all. read more

The parking is messy to put it gently. When you add in the fact that this venue also double books events with one going on upstairs while a second happens downstairs it gets downright difficult to find a spot. Inside everything is dusty and could use to be cleaned more often. A lot of space is taken up by one major hallway downstairs with smaller branching halls hosting event rooms. This can get a little confusing to navigate. Upstairs is a little better with larger rooms and more of a "square" pattern of hallways but it's still possible to get lost. The terrace on the second floor is nice when it's open. The Hampton Roads Convention Center is not the worst venue I have ever seen by a long shot, but it's not my favorite either. read more

This place is kinda meh. Bathrooms were a little messy. I was here for a gun show and the floors were a little dirty. That can be expected I guess with the amount of traffic inside the building. The parking was not very well organized. It took forever to find a spot. Also, I don't know who scheduled two very large events on the same day. Not only was there parking mess because of the gun show, there was another large event which made the parking even worse. Security was okay. Only people registering weapons were checked. Nobody with a bag, or anybody else was checked for a thing. That was a little upsetting. read more

Went here for a graduation ceremony. The bathrooms were filthy. OK maybe I'm sounding negative. But the parking is ridiculous. Other events were going on at the same time. Who schedules multiple events for 1 building when there isn't enough parking. I can see how this little city needed a new WAREHOUSE to hold functions, but I've seen much much better and even a slightly better one. read more

Great area!!! Used this area to put 10 basketball courts under one roof. Allowed for ease to watch multiple teams and games. During this time the venue also held multiple weddings, a prom, and seminars. It was just that large. Each event was organized and didn't overlap into different areas. Parking was never and issue. A modern, spacious (for hampton roads) venue that can easily serve multiple purposes from special events to medium-sized conventions. I will say that if you're coming here as a person setting up a booth getting to the loading dock from the hotel isn't as easy as the front desk staff nor HRCC staff make it out to be. The staff for the building aren't very accommodating or personable either. The wifi can be very temperamental at times although I will say that cell phone service here was a lot better than at the Embassy Suites attached nearby. read more

What is better for a cash strapped city than building a new convention center, net to a coliseum? It's a warehouse sized building, that I've only ever seen used for gun shows, which would have been better served in the existing facilities. 3 Stars for the facility, negative one for the waste of taxpayer money. read more
