I enjoyed my stay here last weekend. It was easy and quiet and restful. Normally, when I have run the Crawlin' Crab Half Marathon and stayed at the Coliseum in the past, I stay at the Embassy Suites but they were booked so I was forced to look around. There are tons of options in this area but the Courtyard by Marriott stood out. I was able to use the app to ask for early check-in and drove up on Saturday for the 7:30am 5k and asked to check in as soon as possible. They texted me at 8am that my room was ready and I could check in early at no additional charge. Awesome! Check-in took about 1 minute - they had my room keys ready in a folder and handed them right over after checking my ID (I had already checked in via credit card from my app when I requested early check-in). I found the room to be modern and updated with several amenities like USB plugs by the bed, nice furniture (like a roll out desk/table nestled under the main console piece), tons of lamps and nice ambient lighting all around. I could hear someone talking in the room beside me from the hall on a cell phone but once I was in the room, I could hear nothing. It was a haven. I took a nap on the comfy bed, turned the AC up, had a shower, etc. It wasn't perfect, there were a few issues in the room (like the outlets were a little loose in the bathroom and you had to jam the door around the toilet (it hit the toilet bc there wasn't enough space so you had to force it) but nothing major and the bed was comfy and the room was quiet and clean so that's the main things I care about when I stay in a hotel. Sadly, they aren't dog friendly, so I had to make other arrangements for my little frenchie for the weekend, but otherwise, a really good stay. Location is amazing, close to shops, interstate, coliseum and tons of restaurants.

This part of the bed frame is sticking out and I tripped over it. It is very dangerous and I could've hurt myself.

Pros:Great Location, enclosed courtyard, gym, balconies, multiple entrances, fridge, sofa bed, newly remodeled bathroom and floors, decent price Lots of parking. Cafe. Welcome goodie bags Cons: older building, elevator seems outdated, no keyless entry, ripped chair, we had to ask for towels twice, no microwave, tvs don't have signal, no breakfast included or buffet style. Added pics of other issues Major concerns: retuned in the evening to no towels. Asked the front desk and was informed they all needed washing and the cleaning staff were gone for the day. I do not understand why they didn't stagger the washing. It's homecoming weekend and they have been expecting this annually for long as they have existed. They need to be prepared. This is sub standard and unacceptable.

7/6/21: I told myself I'd never come back, but here I am. I needed a place close to a training class I had to attend & this was a good price. Check-in was HORRIBLE. I literally stood at the front desk for 15 mins before the guy decided to appear out of nowhere. The lady from the bar had to go get him. The worst part was that the hotel manager walked by me twice & NEVER said a word. He didn't tell me someone would be right with me. He just walked by me like I wasn't there. After I got checked in, I was given room 319. As I walked to the elevator and up to my room, I noticed that it was extremely hot in the hallways. The carpet, floors, and elevator was worn down & filthy. It needs to be completely renovated. This place is a mess. When I got to the room, the AC was running & it was nice and cool. The floors were dirty, the couch was stained, and it was falling apart. From the tissue holder in the bathroom to inside the shower to the floors. It was all run down. There was hair everywhere. Do they actually CLEAN the rooms or just change the linens? Again, I think I'm done with this place. I tried to give them another chance, but it was an even worse experience. 2 stars this go 'round.

I forgotten to write this review back in November'19 I believe. Good location I've stayed here before when it was under Marriott Corporate and everything was great similar to other Marriotts I've stayed in. Now for the bad. Horrible management everytime you look for a manager related to issues with billing their never around. You call and leave messages they NEVER call back. I guess Managment are on a permanent vacation with pay! How amazing!! Where do I put in a Application?!?! I came down for breakfast and wow flys!!! How delicious! I came back for drinks with a friend later that night, we went to use the bathroom upstairs, came back down and WOW would you believe it! FLYS!!! From owning a restaurant I could tell you that comes from a lack keeping with up with you Bio drain! Dirty and nasty! Bad management!!!

Dark creepy hallway in a Marriott?

This is a dump, and I seriously would question any positive reviews you see here. This is a Motel 6 quality with the Marriott name and price attached. I won't be back, that's for sure.

It smells really bad here. Actually going to check out tomorrow. I cannot deal with the smell. They say clean, I say nice try. The hotel looks like there is some renovations going on but the rooms are musty, the hallway smells somewhere between weed and mildew. The bistro is closed and the parking lot is dimly lit. Wow back on the road and I feel like I am in a motel 6, not a courtyard! Got a second star only because the room is updated.

First time at this hotel and actually my first time ever staying in Hampton. I usually opt for Newport News, but this hotel's location caught me attention. A little further investigation revealed that it had not only the location I most desired, but great reviews going for it too! The price per night in off season was great, around $119 for a standard double queen. My first interaction with the staff was over the phone. I believe the mans name was Isaiah. I am unsure what level of employee he was, but the call was flawless. Room set up for two nights, Marriott points utilized and set up, confirmation email sent immediately. But the best part was he was upbeat friendly and seemed to like his job. A rare find and I was excited to have this nice of a smooth start. Again first time staying in the area and also even being on this stretch of the road. It is within eye's view of the Hampton Coliseum and Hampton Convention Center and mixed in with other hotels and a nice size shopping/restaurant area across the street. Courtyards do nothing for me aesthetically since they are one level and boring with a tan exterior paint. I'm sure warmer weather and the front landscaping would enhance it's beauty. The parking lot was a disaster with ice and snow and appeared nothing had been done. This will be the only negative on my entire review. The walks in front and side for the most part were good, NOT GREAT! I understand this is unusual for Hampton Roads to experience this type of weather, but it still is up to the property to maintain lot and sidewalks for safety. Check-in was close to flawless with only issue I don't recall hearing the gentlemen tell me which way to go on the first floor and I went the exact opposite delaying getting in the room when I was in a hurry. Luggage cart were available up front and utilized. The lobby check-in/out is spectacular undergoing a recent remodel with lots of cool goodies like a fire place, big screen TV and computers. Lots of seating with booths that have there own individual TV's too and I have never seen this at a Courtyard. There is also a small store in the front that you can pick up some snacks, drinks and toiletries. The room (114) a double queen was close to perfect. No issues at all with cleanliness. Plenty of power outlets in what appeared to be a renovated room. Beds were comfortable. Everything worked in the room including outlets, plumbing, mini refrigerator, door entry etc. Also easy FREE WiFi connection with no sign on screens. The one issue that I had was the bathroom door hinge side. It had chipped paint that was unsightly. A coat of paint would completely hide this and be a cheap fix. The staff overall smiled, were friendly greeted you when walking by the check in/check out area. All were professionally attired and looked great. The bistro was used twice for breakfast and the staff here was also very courteous. A few of the house keeping staff when passed did not make direct eye contact when they could have and at least smiled, a missed opportunity. On both days the wake up call service was utilized by phone and worked without a hitch. So a drawback to many families is the lack of a FREE breakfast. The bistro however was quite nice and full service. It serves as a breakfast/lunch/dinner with bar 7 PM until 10 PM. It looks super updated and impressed me with it's modern motif. Not big, but it gets the job done. A few bar stools, but lots of room in front with comfortable seating. My son and I ordered breakfast twice and were blown away at decent prices and a really tasty full breakfast meal with eggs, bacon, toast and some crazy awesome crispy potatoes tots that I will not soon forget...so delicious. The staff on both days knew our timeline and rushed out meals and even delivered them to the table. On my first day they had an issue with the card reader and could not complete the credit card transaction. The meal was billed to the room. On both days the staff was terrific to interact with. Check out was a breeze as the invoice was slipped under the door by the staff fairy and correct with the only charge being for the bistro since points were utilized. There were services not used such as the gym, pool that is outside and a nice patio too. I can see a Summer visit being much more inviting with these additional amenities being used, not there fault just he time of the year. It seems quite apparent by watching traffic up front that this hotel is used quite extensively by the military. I saw a lot of personnel in uniform, I believe Army and possibly from nearby Ft. Eustis. I am a fan of Marriott and need to use their Courtyard brand much more often if this is the new model they have moved to. This visit was a very solid 4.5, but rounding to the 4 with just a few improvements that I mentioned above. I will plan a return trip to this hotel in the near future. Great job and a big thank you to the staff of this hotel for making this a wonderful stay.

The entrance door to my floor and the elevator buttons were grimy. They had not been sanitized in what seemed like a month. The shower doesn't have an indicator on which way the water runs hot or cold, which is annoying because I was scolded quickly. The drainage is slow and the water or the bathroom has a foul odor. It may be fr the rusting vent. While opening the shower door, the shower bar broke while simply sliding it open. Inside the shower, there weren't sufficient body wash or bath soaps. On two of the bedsheets, there were dried or old blood or dipping sauce of some sort. The refrigerator doesn't cool well and you hear it from the moment you walk into the room. I thought it was the AC, so I turned it off, but I couldn't sleep the entire night because the refrigerator is incredibly loud. Moreover, I wish I didn't have to clean the refrigerator myself. Someone left a hot pocket in there. I tried to plug in my laptop, but two of the sockets weren't working and when I tried the third one there was a spark. After experiencing an electrical issue, I decided I wouldn't try to plug up anything else. I was told breakfast began at 7 am, the person who was supposed to be there at 7 am, wasn't there until 7:30 am or closer to 8 am. The woman at the front desk kept saying "she'll be here in 5 mins." Ended up going back to my room. When I went to the front desk to ask a question about towels, no one was there, the woman was outside walking around... Tried to print out a to-do list at the "business center" and there was no paper in the printer machine. Didn't want to touch the phones because the papers attached to the menu have water and dirt rings around the buttons. Went to speak to the front desk again, but was turned off by the woman eating at the front desk. She was chewing and talking at the same time. I watched food fly out of her mouth. Housekeeping never came to clean up the unit for the second day that I was there. Called housekeeping and for a wake-up call, no one answered the phone... The smell of the room is the most awful.

    Dirty floor

Night manager is super pleasant other than that this place is horrible. Dirty rooms, hallways smell like weed, random people loitering around at all times of the night.

My favorite stay away from home. Ahhhh! Thank you Marriott for the comfortable mattress, sheets and comforter. Most of all, thank you for the cleanliness. From the lobby, to the lounge area, to the rooms, I'm a completely satisfied customer. The moment I enter the hotel, I'm greeted by bright beautiful colors. The richness of the dark mahogany wood creates a polished professional look, which the employees follow it though with their actions. I received a warm greeting which is consistent whenever I stay at the Marriott. I was able to enjoy a peaceful moment in one of the lounge's private "booths" and if needed, I could have logged on a desktop to retrieve and print my flight itinerary. Overall, great stay, great location and I'm able to earn points as a Marriott Rewards Member.

Nice size rooms. Clean and cozy

It is vary rare for me to give 5 stars to a hotel. But, I haven't had any problems here, so why not? I stay here every year for the past 3 years around this time. There is big basketball tournament out here, and we always stay at the Marriott. I'm here with a group, and the group rates they give us are pretty good....even better than the rewards member discounts. They always greet us upon arrival and make sure we have everything we need to have a good stay here. I have always felt like I would be taken care of. Food here is pretty good. At the "market" or the snacks you can purchase. The rooms are always clean, there is always plenty of parking, a nice and professional staff, and what else could you ask for? This place is also conveniently locate me everything. Food, grocery stores, gas stations, liquor stores, etc....whatever you need, it's pretty close by. And if you are here for the big basketball tourney....Boo Williams Complex is 10 mins away. This is a Courtyard Marriott. So, there is no refrigerator in your room. But I'm sure if you asked for one, they would bring you one...probably for additional charge like requesting a microwave. But anyhow, this place is conveniently located, pretty affordable, and the staff prides themselves on good service....whenever I'm in Hampton, I will always be staying here.
