Horrible experience. We booked a 7pm return to the east end. Bus didn't show up until 8:15 pm. There was apparently construction, which the driver told us about on the morning trip into the city so the company obviously was aware of. About twenty customers, including kids and elderly, were left waiting in the rain with no text or email updates from the company. And, the "Where's my Jitney" section of the website didn't work. I understand delays happen, but failing to notify their customers was inexcusable. They were dismissive of my outreach, ignoring my complaint about their failure to make any attempt to update their customers about a significant delay. read more

Terrible - always old disgusting smelly buses with tiny seats. People crammed together no social distancing. Worst part is the extremely rude bus attendant. Yelling at customers who were doing nothing wrong. She grabbed my purse of the seat handle! Horrible lady. Another guest shoved me while she watched and she said nothing. I disagree with some of the reviews I had the possibility to take the train from penn station to montauk and come back with the jitney bus Night and day IN FAVOR OF THE HAMPTON JITNEY: The bus came on time at 1:15 pm It was clean , air conditioned and the assistant was very nice distributing water and snacks The trip took exactly 3 hours and dropped us at 4:15 on the 79st stop The driver was polite and the trip was comfortable and uneventful I will do it again and certainly not the train Btw: $29 one way versus $21 for the train read more

Rode it for the first time last week while in NYC to travel between NYC and Montauck LI and is this a great way to travel or what? With several stop/pickup spots in downtown NYC and along Long Island, it's a great way to beat the traffic, not worry about parking or tolls, at a very reasonable price ($30 o/w between NYC to Montauck). Aboard they have a video to enlighten travelers of the service and what to expect, along with a "hostess" who will also instruct you on the route, stops, collect your fare payment, plus pass out water and snacks, and there's free wifi aboard too!! wow!! In busy summer months it's very advisable to reserve in advance or you will be left standing on the curb still when it departs. Wish I would've known about this service on my previous NYC trips.... Exact change in cash required, or use pre-purchased tickets What to expect? When you get to a boarding/pickup location, you'll see a small roped-off area, like those used in a bank. Each will have a sign displaying destination. Wait in the line you want, and when the bus comes the chaos starts. When loading starts, you'll speak to the hostess who has a electronic "ticket taker". She'll ask your name, how many in your party, destination and bags. Once you get by her, you can load your heavier suitcases below in the storage compartment (they load it for you accordingly to destination). Then board the bus and find your comfortable seat - it's ALL open seating. Later after snacks/water, she will come around to each passenger to collect the fare, again using her electronic tool and can even print a receipt for you!! From NYC to Montauck they passed out newspapers but returning from Montauck no papers were available. read more

For the amount of money this bus costs it was not only uncomfortable, but they made us change buses on some dark road and jam packed us in on a full bus. They claim they care so much about covid, but took us off a nice socially distanced bus ride to jam us in on a packed bus. The train was a much nicer ride. read more

Absolutely horrific experience. We booked a trip from LI to NYC and waited in front of the exact street address on the confirmation email. The address given was incorrect and listed an address heading in the wrong direction. We saw a bus pass in opposite direction and when we called the # to speak to someone from Hampton Jitney RAJ was defensive and condescending from the very beginning and rather than apologizing about the error he blamed us for not having common sense and waiting on the wrong side of the road and then when I said we need to be booked on the next bus he said it was booked up and said "what part of fully booked do you not understand". He was not empathetic and wouldn't apologize for the error on their part and was really a d*ck about it and threatened to hang up on me because I was upset about being stranded on Long Island! Even worse, when I passed the phone to my husband in frustration, RAJ said to my husband that he was sorry my husband had to deal with me! Why couldn't he understand that of course we are upset to be waiting on the side of the road, have missed a bus and then be told we could not be booked on the next bus 2 hours later since it was booked up! Rather than trying to de-escalate the situation and be helpful he said everything possible to make me angry and taunt me by insulting us and would admit no accountability despite the very clear error in the address on the confirmation. Raj had no customer service skills and went so far as to provoke me rather than try to help. Somehow this was all supposed to be our fault and didn't warrant any type of apology. I wish there were better options to get out here. It completely ruined our experience for what was supposed to be a nice day on the North Fork. One of the drivers did not announce their route properly in July of 2023 which resulted in me not getting on the bus, forcing me to buy another ticket. When I reached out regarding the original trip and a refund, all emails were ignored and all phone calls were hostile from their end. Not to mention with the stop in Calverton it is a 3 hour + trip regardless of destination. Never riding again. read more

As I sit for 6th hour on a Hampton jitney, and might I say a rickety old bus...see video below along with a jitney schedule, I get angrier and angrier! A good friend of mine received tickets to see Carol King the musical on Broadway for her birthday and asked me to go with her. I was very excited for our trip into the city to see the show and have a nice dinner. She called and made reservations on the jitney for us both....I would be picked up in East Hampton and she would get on in Manorville. She made the reservations on the phone with a receptionist after looking at the schedule on line. She asked twice if we were on the same bus and was told yes! I was getting on at 9:45 and she would get on at 10:45 having us arrive in the city at 12:30. This schedule was perfect, it gave us plenty of time to get a cab to the theater. I got on this morning at 9:45. I let her know we were approaching the Manorville exit ( so she would have plenty of time to get us coffee). I felt something was wrong when the bus was not slowing a bit as we got close to the stop. I told the bus matron that we needed to stop for a passenger with a reservation. She said "this bus doesn't stop here, the needed to get on the Westhampton/Hampton Bays line" the driver would not stop. I called my friend immediately and she called the jitney. They told her she would have to take the next bus at 11:45. That bus arrives in the city at 1:30...it would be tight but we would still get to the show. As she waited passed the 11:45 time (to late to make the train, which we should have done from the get go, she called the jitney office back and was told the were delayed and wouldn't pick her up till 12:40 and get to the city at 2:45. We would then still have to get to the theater. My friend said there was no point and went home. I on the other hand got all the way into the city, got off the bus, crossed the street and got on another jitney home. I am now on a bus that is breaking down and we have to change buses. I have sat with the woman in front of me practically laying in my lap because her seat is broken. Carol King tickets $109 x 2 2 jitney passes $30 x 2 Cancellation fees $10 x 3 (My friends 2 rides and my 7:15 home) Not mention it has been now 6 1/2 hours since I left East Hampton and I am headed toward the jitney stop in Southampton to switch buses.... another hour before I am home. I have been riding the jitney since it was sunrise. I'm beyond shocked and horrified but their blatant purposeful disregard for their patrons' safety and only value their profit.There is ZERO social distancing on Hampton Jitney. They are not only NOT social distancing but are purposefully PACKING buses and combining us. I'm forced to sit on a completely full with 40 passengers... I got onto a nice bus with 6 passengers and they brought us to the middle of nowhere and told us we had to get on another bus. They have combined all the buses from the Hamptons and north fork on to 1 completely full bus.....don't take the jitney if you value you and your loved ones' safety. I noticed afterwards in very VERY small print that they make you pay extra for a safe bus with half capacity. Once again only caring about profit over safety. DISGUSTING. If you are ever forced in an emergency situation to brave this dangerous journey, being your n95 mask and double or triple up. I was supposed to be going to pick my 75yr old father from the hospital to drive him and his car home. They said to me they could leave me on the side of the road IN A SNOW STORM and said I could stay on this bus or wait in the snow until 4;00pm (it's 11am). I'm now not only stuck on an overcrowded bus but my father is stuck at the hospital and I cannot go and pick him up now after being completely contaminated bring in an inclosed space at FULL CAPACITY. I've been taking the Jitney for the past few years and it's pretty convenient but there are some issues, I've dealt with or observed. I always reserve and pay on line but there is the option of reserving and paying on the bus or getting on the bus with no reservation. The problem with this is that a person with a reservation could be left on the curb because the bus is full, I've seen it happen . There needs to be a better system, like they can take x amount of non reserved people due to x amount of extra seats that are not reserved. For the first time their was an attendant in place before the bus arrived organizing people which is nice for people who have never taken the Jitney. For the first time we were very late, I was suppose to get in 4:15 we didn't arrive until close to 6. 1st the driver turned off the bus at the second stop so while we are sitting there in the heat he went down the street for awhile. No idea what he was doing but sitting on the bus in the summer with no air is not fun. Someone asked if we could put the air on and the attendant was snippy with the person. She actually was kind of rude to a few people. 2nd stop we were there for a bit, I think waiting for someone's friend. After the 44th street stop, the other stops went pretty quick. We also hit some traffic. The attendant said we were 15 min off schedule, ummm more like an hour and half. The last thing was they let me out on the grass on the side of the road so I had to walk in the street with my luggage. Normally the pull to the edge of the farmers market. He said they asked them not to because they are busy with customers which I get but they were closed so no customers were there. Thus expierence was not the best, I'm hoping it's not like this next time because if it is I'd rather take the train or a van service. read more

Anyway, if you need to get to Southampton because people think you're awesome and really want to hang out with you, but Diddy's being a bitch, you can always take the Jitney. I like the Jitney. You can reserve a seat online, pay credit, and you get a snack, a drink and a paper. Best of all, they limit cell phone conversations to three minutes in emergencies, which I wish they would do on the train, in restaurants, in movie theaters and in life. Yes, the train is cheaper; but it takes longer, and you're not guaranteed a seat. Have you ever stood on a train for 2.5 hours? It's not fun. The Jitney might be expensive, and it's a bit absurd that you can take a bus to Boston for half the price, but it's the best method of travel out east when you can't catch a ride. read more

The only person of color on our 3-hour ride from Montauk to Manhattan on the equivalent of a touring coach was the African-American guy who collects fares, and walks up and down the aisle asking "Post or the Times?" My daily commuting reality takes me from New Jersey to New York City and back on New Jersey Transit buses. I am very familiar with New York City buses and I've been on my fair share of Greyhounds and "Chinatown buses to casinos" before. Given that, I'm still reeling a bit as to being as surprised as I am by the Hampton Jitney. I only heard about this recently because I had to travel to Amagansett on a bit of a business trip. I had no idea what to expect. I figured it would be like NJ Transit with loud people, "just acceptable" cleanliness and if I was lucky, a driver who didn't snarl at me when I mentioned this as my first time. At first, I was worried. Waiting at 9am on a Saturday at the stop on 40 Street and 3rd Avenue, I saw a massive crowd gathered. The bus was fifteen minutes late, so right off the bat I thought "Oh great, here we go." having gotten used to delay upon delay by NJ Transit. When the bus arrived, I was told that I would have had to make a reservation ahead of time, and that the bus was full. Now, see, this was a business trip, I had to be there at a certain time. This was not an acceptable option. I kept asking if there were any alternatives, and I think after enough puppy dog eyes (and blathering, I'm very good at that) they relented and let me on. I didn't have to really beg too much mind you as the driver and his assistant were super nice and understanding. The trip into Amagansett was super nice. The interior was clean, the seats were comfortable and my bag fit into the overhead without a problem. My neighbor was very talkative (in a good way), telling me about the trip, the best times to go etc. I was lucky to have an experienced person showing me the ropes! As the assistant came though the bus, she was giving out granola bars and muffins. I think my brain almost crashed. Then they gave out free water, and my brain definitely crashed at this point. This is so alien to my bus riding experience, I'm still half convinced I hallucinated the whole thing. Coming back into the city has been every bit as pleasant. Super clean and modern bus, comfortable seats that look like they've been reupholstered since Bush Sr. left office and a really friendly driver to boot. Not that I go out to the Hamptons a ton, but if I do go out again, this is the way I'm going to do it! read more

I want to start by saying that I generally go on yelp to give good reviews not poor ones, although there are times when its necessary. To this day this is one of the craziest things I've experienced. I had taken the bus from NYC to East Hampton on July 11, 2015. I was one of the last to load the bus since I didn't have a reservation so I ended up sitting in the front next to the person helping serve snacks. When I sat down Patricia, the bus driver proceeded to tell me that I would not be allowed to talk the entire trip (not in a joking way). When we made a brief stop by the airport Patricia got off quickly and when she got back on she told said "oh and your f*****" by the way this was not quietly the entire bus heard including my friend i was traveling with. When I called the company to tell them my experience (I mean this was so strange) they said they would speak to the driver and the person serving the food and get back to me. When they got back to me I was told that the driver and the attendant denied doing anything wrong and that I must be incorrect since Patricia had been there for so long. I then said that's crazy I know other people on my bus called to say something (i was with my friend when she called as well) they said they hadn't received any complaints. They said that there was nothing they could do since there wasn't proof and i was the only person that called about what happened(which i know wasn't true). I'm not sure what was worse the fact that the driver told me I wasn't allowed to talk and that I was f***** or the way the company responded when I told them what happened. There is no social distancing happening on these buses. Today, the staff forced passengers to sit next to complete strangers putting the health and safety of everyone on board in jeopardy in the middle of a pandemic. They told me if I didn't let someone sit next to me despite expressing my discomfort I would have to pay for the extra seat. They're so unscrupulous that a crisis is simply an opportunity to make more money. This company needs to be investigated and shut down if they do not implement the safety requirements listed on their website and mandated by the state. read more

I try and avoid taking the Jitney whenever I can. Just not a fan of this service and their policies. Wanted to reschedule a trip for a few hours later and they charged me a $10 cancellation fee even though I was still using them. Totally bogus that they wouldn't just put the $10 towards my next trip. Their customer service is not great either. The rep I spoke to about this said he cancelled my trip and didn't mention he charged me $10 until I said "there's no fee right?" He said yes and that he charged it already. Why would you charge me $10 without me knowing??? Awful company and awful service! read more

Poor value for money. I've been taking the jitney for the better part of 10 years and I'm sad to say the service isn't what it used to be. In the past you would have the necessary stops to pick up passengers as you head to Manhattan and then onto the highway and that's it. Maybe the occasional stop in Calverton. Now? All the usual stops, ALWAYS stop in Calverton, and now you have to stop in Medford so they can combine 2 buses. A ride that used to be 1:45-2:30 with heavy traffic is now AT LEAST 2:30 every time. They also have put the fare up $10. Disappointing to say the least. read more

I know traffic on a Friday in July going to the Hamptons is a thing, but the Jitney took forever. It was 45 minutes late to leave the city in the first place. No one could find their seat numbers because the labels were faint or non-existent. I'm entirely sure the seat search is the reason the whole trip was behind schedule. Some dude already on the bus from an uptown stop helped us all figure out numbers. Not the bus driver. The passenger suggested maybe we find a sharpie and write in all the numbers. I don't know what the point of numbers is anyway. It used to be a free for all, first come first seated style. Guess the company thought seat numbers were trendy because airplanes use them. I'm never taking the Jitney again. The LIRR is just fine, and on time. read more

I've never really had a great experience on the Hampton Jitney but this takes the cake. I boarded in East Hampton and gave my suitcase to the driver and watched him put it in the compartment under the bus. When I got off in the City my bag was gone. The driver made me feel like I never gave it to him and he has no idea what could have happened to it. After 3 days of having to call the Jitney, because they never got back to me. They saw on the cameras that the driver gave my suitcase to someone at the airport stop and that person just apparently left it there. They were really not nice about it and said now it just goes to our insurance company were they will pay a MAXIMUM of $250. and you agree to that when you buy a ticket. Since this was completely their fault I would have expected them to do something more for me.Even just offer me free rides or something more than $250. where the value of what I had in the bag was at least 5 times that and things that I would not be able to get again. I WOULD RECOMMEND IF YOU HAVE TO RIDE ON THE Hampton Jitney THAT YOU DON'T ALLOW THEM TO TAKE YOUR LUGGAGE, AFTER MY EXPERIENCE IT COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE. Do not take this if you are relying on the stated pick up and drop off times. It was supposed to pick up at 12 but instead got there at 12:30, and it was supposed to arrive at my destination at 1:15 but instead got there at 2:25. The service itself is adequate but customer service is AWFUL!!! The pickup location was changed without notification so when I missed the bus (due to their error of omission) I was forced to book the next one. I was assured that I would not be charged twice but I was. The customer service agent was incredibly unhelpful and I will hesitate to use this service in the future. read more

After I got done babbling about the Hampton Jitney being on an episode of Sex And The City, and singing the hilarious jingle "The Hammmmmptonnns JIT-NAAYYY!" until my patient guy was ready to throw me off, we really enjoyed this ride. Returning to Manhattan from Montauk was a comfortable, clean ride. Snacks, drinks and newspapers available. It looked like some people used this as a commuter line, living in the Hamptons and commuting to Manhattan. I could never do that, the ride is too long, but it's available if you want to, and that's good.Good way to check out the part of the Hamptons not visible from the train tracks. I took the tour to West Point. The bus was an old one with very uncomfortable seats. They were stiff and cramped. I have taken the bus into the city and expected the same comfortable seats so I was particularly unhappy to see we were stuck on an old one with lousy seating and poor suspension.The bus got lost which was frustrating but can be understandable. The tour guide at West Point was excellent but the lunch at the famed Thayer Restaurant was a massive disappointment! The buffet was lukewarm and the food dry, the dessert table was a huge mess that no-one cleaned up and the tables the stuck us at were narrow and crowded. I would never recommend that restaurant. The best part of the whole place was the huge flower arrangement at the entrance. Mary on the bus was lovely and did a fine job but I still feel cheated out of $165. It definitely wasn't worth it and now I'm reluctant to sign up with another trip with them. read more

Attention: Please direct this review to a Manager/Supervisor. I truly hope that calls are recorded when making reservations. Today August 2nd, at approximately 12pm I called and was trying to make a reservation to the West Side in Manhattan (77th and Broadway) and was treated beyond disrespectfully and unprofessionally. I was hung up on, and was passed around on the phone, mainly speaking to Tajha who did the hanging up. I was spoken to rudely and loudly. I have been a customer for over 20 years and haven't had too many issues until my moving to the Upper West Side and taking a jitney there. On the phone I was continuously told that I could take any bus on Sunday and just tell them my stop, I know this is not the case! Particularly as I have already had 3 incidents where I have been told the bus goes to the West Side, but it does not and I have even been KICKED OFF a bus on the east side when they should have brought me to the West side. If you check my history you will these occasions! I recently spoke with Monique(after my last incident) she was kind and let me know that reservationists don't have full access to online reservation schedule and can't all buses and where they go, which is perhaps why the West Side reservations are not accurate and have caused me much stress. On the phone with Tajha today I repeatedly tried telling them that ONLY certain busses go to the west side and they continued to tell me I was wrong to just take any bus. I was hung up on, called back and asked to speak to a manager. I don't who I spoke to then but she managed to figure it out and passed the phone to Tajha and made a 12:45 reservation which goes to the west side. FINALLY someone took the time to figure it out and not continue to tell the client she was wrong and give misinformation. Again, I hope these calls are recorded and that professionalism and quality client service is improved and these particular individuals are spoken to. Equally as important is to make sure ALL reservationists have access and make the effort to figure out how the West side busses run! How great that they do go there, but incredibly disturbing and exasperating that there are so many issues that can be easily solved.
