On 8/19/15, I took the Jitney from East 68th Street to East Hampton, and the bus attendant, this hideously rude man named Sam was by far the WORST person I have ever had the displeasure to be stuck on a bus with. He had a major attitude every time someone asked a question, and when I asked which seat was the handicapped seat (as I am temporarily on a cane due to major knee replacement and had requested it) he said very dismissively that it wasn't available. I had to foresight not to expect that he would assist me with boarding, but my heart broke when a very unsteady 80+ year old woman boarded, and he just watched her with a snarl on his face, not making a move. He should be FIRED. I do hope the management of the Jitney sees this review and takes him to task. read more

Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow! The customer service (phone) is absolutely HORRIBLE! I just called to make a reservation and pre-pay for a trip to East Hampton. Describing the experience as curt would be an understatement. I'm going to call back to receive a refund. I should have read the reviews on Yelp before booking. If the customer service is any reflection of the expected trip, I absolute do not want to be on-board for that 6-hour round trip. Wow. Update: Called and cancelled. Unreliable service - bus never arrived for scheduled departure with reservation. Would use other methods to get back and forth to the Hamptons unless you like gambling with your plans. Upon working to confirm the location of the bus, the dispatcher worked to cover for the fact the driver never passed the pick up. There was no willingness to work to accommodate alternative plans. Absolutely horrible! I wish I could give it 0 stars!! Got a ticket for my 18 yr old daughter to come home from South Hampton. The bus was 2 hours late! No updates. Nothing. I called twice only to talk to incompetent staff with no answers. Finally I was told a bus was on the way. My daughter was told when she got on the bus that they would be dropped of at Manorsville to switch to another bus! I was promised there would be a seat for her because of her age. When she got on the next bus she was told there were not enough seats. So they left her and 2 elderly women in a dark parking lot late at night be themselves!!! Unexceptionable!!!! I'm afraid I'm going to take issue with this you on this one Flo. I agree with you on the round trip thing, but disagree on the snacks and water. You know how many mornings I've come to the bus hungover? That nasty water and muffins have saved my butt so many times! Secondly, the distance to the South Fork is in fact further! Besides, anyone who goes there ought to pay more as a fine for stupidity anyway. Aside from that, I've found the buses to be clean, surprisingly reliable in terms of getting me out to LI on time, it's locations on the East Side are convenient and NOT at the Port Authority Bus Station, there's occasionally some decent eye candy on the bus and the frequency of service is helpful. Don't get me wrong, the attendants can be a little weird, the whole strictness about not using cell phones is a little much and I'd rather squeeze into the middle seat of a relative's compact car before paying for the bus, but it's not that bad. It's still the best way to travel other than take your helicopter like J. Lo or your jet pack like P. Diddy. As the two others have said, buy a VALUE PACK TICKET BOOK. If you purchase them around holidays then tickets can cost $17-20 one way. Each of my tickets wound up being $17.92 a pop. The new Jitneys with the comfy/leatheresque seats are to die for. Oh, and I'll definitely take my party mix, bran muffin, or lemonade over the LIRR anyday. The Hampton Jitney used to be a courteous, convenient way to get out to the East End. These days it's dirty, never on time and their drivers and customer service people are just plain rude. The internet never works, you're jammed in the bus and god forbid you have to call them with a question. They need to train their Customer Service reps to be helpful, not to give people lectures... And NEVER pre-pay your ride because if anything happens, whether it's your fault or theirs, your $$$ is non-refundable. Time to check out the Hampton Ambassador... read more

I much prefer the train over this bus. There's more space on the train and it's pretty much on schedule. We took a 12:30 bus and didn't get to Bridgehampton until 5:00PM! No thank you. Our journey back home on the train was almost two hours shorter. The bus driver was a real ass too. And he couldn't drive - start-stop-brake-brake-start-brake-stop-stop. The Jitney is a decent way to get out to the east end. However, after all the stops are a made to go out east the bus will then sit at the last stop in midtown. And sit. And sit. And sit. Why does the bus sit here for 30 min minutes!! Wtf are you doing during this time?!?! Complete morons. Then, once it gets to Southampton, it sits at that station for 20 min! These ppl are dumb as f. I once took a Jitney to the Hamptons and the bus driver TURNS THE BUS AROUND before Wainscott and starts going back towards the city claiming he "forgot someone". Ppl then got on my bus thinking it's their bus that's going back to the city but then it turns around again to go back towards Montauk. You can't make this stuff up. It could easily take a little over 2 hours to go out east but these idiots always find a way to push it over 3 hours. Even in the winter! I used to be an attendant for the Jitney before it had the North Fork service. They are a great company to work for and they provide a wonderful, vital service to all Easter Enders and to New Yorker visitors. They used to be known for serving muffins on board. Now they serve a drink and chips or pretzels, but they make up for the muffinlessness with free Wi-Fi! There isn't a faster, cozier way to get back and forth from the East End and Manhattan. read more

I have taken the regular jitney to Montauk many times and had no problems. On Saturday, July 7, I took the Ambassador for the first time. I boarded at 59th and Lexington at 8:10 AM without a reservation. When buying my round-trip ticket to Montauk, I was asked if I wanted to return on the regular jitney, which would cost $68 total, or the Ambassador for the discounted price of $80. I told the host/guide that I was returning the same day and needed to be CERTAIN there would be an Ambassador that Saturday night before paying for the more expensive ticket. She assured me that there "were a couple coming back." That turned out to be false. The driver of the 7:45 PM jitney that I caught on the way back told me there were NO Ambassadors on Saturday night, but they could "swap out" my ticket. I was later told by the guide that the extra $12 I paid could not be refunded, but that I could visit the business office (I work during the week, so that's not possible). I was also given the choice of buying a new ticket for an additional $30 (!) and keeping the Ambassador ticket for a return trip from Montauk some other time. I told the guide that I would never be taking the Ambassador again. The interesting part is that if you took the regular jitney out and wanted to take the Ambassador back, they'd let you upgrade, but you have to pay the $12 difference. But not the reverse! The Ambassador has wide aisles and is less crowded, but for the extra $$ you get a few more unimpressive snacks, the same small bathroom and an old second-run movie. They also run fewer jitneys than the regular Hampton jitney. My biggest complaint is about the customer service. I notified the company via Web site and got no response. Then I wrote a letter to the president. In the past, there has always been an acknowledgment and an attempt to correct the problem. Nothing! As another writer on this site said, it's a very foolish way to treat long-time customers. Take the regular jitney or the LIRR. It is faster, roomier, and cheaper. read more

Terrible company. Me and my girlfriend went to take the Hampton Jitney out to Sag Harbor for the weekend. After sitting in traffic on a hot bus in a ripped seat for well over an hour just to get to the LaGuardia Airport stop, the bus proceeded to break down. We were told that another bus was on its way, however the pilot has no idea how long it would be and could not provide any information. We sat and waited for about 15 minutes, and still received no information. We proceeded to take an uber with other passengers the rest of the way assuming we would at least get our money back for the ride.. WRONG We attempted to call the customer service that next Monday. We first would call the accounting office who would tell us there was nothing they could do and had to transfer us to customer service. The phone at customer service would ring and get sent to voicemail every time and we were told to leave a message which never was returned. They continued to send us in this loop and would not help us get our money back. When we asked to speak to a manager, they would refuse to let us and just tell us that customer service handles everything. This company is a complete scam and if you want to get ripped off then use the Shitney. If you want to have a better experience, just take the train. read more

Off the Charts Stupid: yesterday 9/30 trip from Wainscott Westbound 2:35 pick up to Mac Arthur Islip. Picked up late in Wainscott at 2:50. Rode less than 5 miles on 27. Jitney breaks down. We wait for another bus. 20 minutes to switch buses. Laura # 3347 comes around, takes fares, mine is $23. Laura must have recognized it was an Islip fare given the price. I put on my headphones and get to work. I'm being met in Islip now at 4:30 instead of 4pm because of the breakdown. I look up at 4:45 and see that we are in Nassau County. No stop at Islip. Hello?! Laura tells me this is MY FAULT for not responding to the earlier audio inquiring about stops on the trip. Of course I didn't hear it, and now she has called in the problem and is told to tell me there is nothing to be done. I can go to Manhattan and come back out. Hello?! I insist on getting off and be returned to Islip. No can do. Eventually Laura has the driver pull off the LIE in who the hell knows where and says, you can get out here and take the train. "Where is the LIRR near here?" I ask as I schlep my things off the SECOND bus of the trip now. And now I'm on the sidewalk, no phone signal, no train station in sight. Laura decides to give me $20 and says call this 718 number for the LIRR and figure out how to get back to Islip, my phone doesn't have a signal here. Nor did mine! SERIOUSLY people. THAT is how you respond to your own screw up? On what planet does this procedure make any sense at all? No sympathy, no help, not even an offer of refund!! I'm not making up one bit of this fiasco. I go to a nearby gas station for help, lugging my stuff and I'm a 60 yo woman with sciatica back pain. Hello?! I eventually get a cab to the Roslyn train station and learn that it will take three hours, two train transfers to get back out to Suffolk county on a Saturday evening. Seriously. I arrived at my 90 yo father's home at 7:30pm after leaving getting to the Jitney stop in Wainscott at 2:25pm yesterday. This much time and another $35 dollars in transportation costs because the Jitney employs idiots and lazy people who cannot keep track of their own manifest lists and destinations! As I said to Laura, when she insisted the problem was MY FAULT because I did not respond to her earlier message, "SO, you're telling me making a specific reservation AND paying the proper fare after boarding the bus does NOT mean a specific reservation has been made?! SERIOUSLY? How on Earth you people stay in business is beyond me. No one there are so many competitors. You people deserve to go under! DO NOT BOOK ONLINE!!! We had to go to Southampton for a baby naming and decided to take the Jitney instead of the train. My fiancé booked us two tickets online for the 11am bus leaving 40th street. We took a cab crosstown from our apt but were running late due to streets being closed etc bc of the gay pride parade. I called Hampton Jitney to see what they could to help us get the next bus at 12. They said that bc my fiancé booked the bus online and this saved us a Whopping FOUR!!! dollars for the both of us off of a bus-purchased ticket, she couldn't transfer funds. I was transferred to the supervisor who repeated the same line and said that we should have read the terms and conditions like her bc she always does. Our two tickets for $56 couldn't be transferred. Are you kidding me?!!! If we had paid $2 more per ticket in person we could have transferred our fare? That's really worth them angering passengers like us and potentially losing repeat business? It is a bus. But it takes you to the Hampton's so that is nice. They have signs for WI-FI inside, I have never taken a laptop on vacation with me, so I do not know if it is true. They do offer water and the likes, the service has been pretty good. They have a pick-up near my apartment on 86th, so that is very convenient. I try and take either after 8 or 9 in the evening, or early in the morning as traffic to the Hampton's is ugly. The bathrooms are the old standard, a rolling outhouse; it smells like one, and you have to take traffic into consideration when going so you don;t go flying if the brakes are hit. 2 Flushes read more

Ever wondered what it feels like inside a trash compactor -- for several hours? This "luxury service" gives you a really visceral, up close experience of something equivalent:trashed buses with zero leg room, no outlets, and aging engines that barely make it from one destination to the other (and sometimes don't make it at all -- I've gotten "rescued" twice due to mechanical breakdowns). Yesterday was the best tho. I got to wait almost an hour past scheduled pick up. When I called asking if the bus was coming, the customer "service" person said in a huff "well obviously it's coming. Don't you see all the other people waiting? I know they're there cause they've been calling here non stop." Haha omg. SHE was pissed at people calling to find out if theres a bus, that we paid $33 bucks each for, arriving EVER. I have been trying to contact Hampton Jitney for the past few days and have been unsuccessful. I took a trip a couple of weeks ago with an assistive mobility device, which their website explicitly says will be stored FREE OF CHARGE, since I had foot surgery. The attendant, Rita, insisted that I had to pay $15 dollars to store it. Even though I was confused by this blatant lack of regard for disability law, she refused to speak to me in a civil way. I hope I can reach the company soon to get a refund so this does not become a bigger issue. read more

I read several previous reviews and it loooks like they have been written by one person. I disagree with them - Hampton Jitney does whatever it can to provide a connection between Manhattan and North/South Forks. Service is courteous. Delays of course is a problem but it is really a traffic problem which trains do not have. Years ago Jitneys was showing movies and serving muffins and soft drinks other than water but not this is available on luxury or ambassador lines. The Hampton Ambassador Class of the Hampton Jitney is a total waste of money. Take the cheaper Jitney bus if at all possible. The ambassador class claims to have wifi onboard. The truth is it is there but at .15mb/sec download and .12mb/sec upload and a 237ms ping a smartphone running edge is faster. Their wifi is unusable and according to the staff on board it is always this slow. So why advertise that one has wifi? Honestly the comfort is basically the same as it's half price counterpart with only the benefit of more leg room. The bus was not clean, the seats were no better, the "food and beverages" were inedible and the wifi is circa 1995. Basically it's a total fail. read more

I remember when the Hampton Jitney used to be convenient and fairly priced, though through the unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic, this company has continued to take advantage of it's customers and put people in danger. Throughout the pandemic, Hampton Jitney has continuously raised seat prices, promising safe seating, but continiously packed busses to to their capacity. While I have been getting more and more upset with this company and their actions throughout the pandemic, they are yet again taking advantage of their customers and this time I am being forced to go to the BBB, FTC and Suffolk County Business Affairs, as their management only seems to know how to yell at customers. This particular incident involves a friend who has been taking the same 6:10 AM bus to NYC every week for the last several months. This week, Hampton Jitney raised their prices an extra $10, making the final price $45 for a SINGLE RIDE. Now, the company claims to be adding "single seat guaranteed" for this extra $10, though this bus has never been packed to a limit where someone needs to share a seat, there are maybe 10-15 people MAX each week. Using this 6:10 time to price gouge people going to work is not only wrong but a disgusting business practice. With no option to not choose this "single seat guarantee" - they are effectively price gouging workers who need to get into Manhattan at this time. Hampton Jitney, you should be ashamed of your business practices throughout this pandemic, you have been nothing but disappointing and I cant wait for the BBB to come take a look at your practices over the past few months. read more

The Jitney is just great. I ride often and look forward to the ride. It is comfortable, the driver and host professional and friendly. I can't help but feel that the people who complain here about Hampton Jitney being late expect some sort of traffic miracle on the Long Island Expressway (eg: no traffic). Reports of buses being rickety or reservations being difficult to make, are NOT true in my experience. It's EASY to reserve on-line and I've never had a problem with a bus being late or breaking down. The drivers are masters at navigating Manhattan traffic. Also, recently I left an item on the bus and assumed - as one does generally reporting to any Lost-and-Found - that I'd never see it again, but a women in the Calverton office personally tracked it down for me. These buses are just getting worse and worse with no end in sight. The bus I took this morning from Bridgehampton to New York was $33. That is $11 more than the Hampton Jitney from the North Fork and in the winter I frankly find this to be price gouging and offensive. During the winter there are the same amount of time option for leaving but not for coming back. I had to wait an extra 2 hours for a bus or cancel for $10 (!!) At our stop at Southampton, it was taking forever for us to leave the stop which is directly outside of their offices. Five minutes into waiting, I noticed our driver was leisurely smoking a cigarette right in front of the office door. The buses smell weird and gross like the bathroom is dirty...additionally the seats are scratchy and old. The bus does not have the amenities nor timeliness of a $33 bus. They give you a snack and water which is costing them probably 50 cents. The snacks are Chex Mix or stale cookies and the water is a 8 oz bottle of warm water. The bus has wifi which is beyond slow and is not a secure network. There is always a weird smell and the staff acts weird. On my bus home which I prepaid for $29, the woman attending the bus was counting out loud the number of patrons on the bus. She also did not have anything to say about the gross smell of the bus, or have any reasonable way to close the bathroom door!
