Crew member Roland filets fish caught

My husband and I set out for a half-day fishing trip on Star which left at 8 am Saturday morning. The weather was perfect and the fishing even better! Roland, the crew member, showed us the basics and was always available each time a fish was caught. The skipper moved to various spots where the fishing was plentiful. Roland filleted our catches (the ones that weren't too small to keep) so we could bag them and bring them home to eat! This was such a great experience! Thank you Roland and crew!!

In addition to the convenience, the staff on-board Viking are always really friendly.

Great whale watching tour, crew was terrific, very informative, most whales I've ever seen. Would highly recommend.

    Sea Bass and Flounder

My brother and I had an outstanding time on the Viking 1/2 day fishing trip. We got there early to secure a spot on the boat. The boat was filled. The minute we got out to the ocean, my brother put his line in and he caught a 20" + flounder. He later caught a sea bass and I caught a porgie - all keepers. We caught several fish throughout the morning but they were too small to keep. The crew was outstanding. Professional, courteous, reassuring to those not so familiar with fishing and just overall great team. John, Paul were super capable and patient as well as knowledgeable. When we thought my line got caught on a rock John helped us with the pole and said that was not a rock and he "felt the head move" - that's the mark of a true fisherman. We pulled in a a large skate and tossed it back. The skate had sucked up the bait and was not letting go. All in all, we loved it. We will be back. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Best fishing east of Brooklyn!!!! Always catch lots Porgies, Sea Bass, Fluke, Trigger fish etc....coolers never going home empty. Theo the new deckhand is very polite and attentive. Great attitude and dedication to his craft. Definitely fishing on VikingFleet again.

    Whale

This whale watch trip was so much fun and so educational at the same time. The staff and crew were so nice and knowledgeable. It's a rustic feeling kind of fishing boat so don't expect a yacht, but it didn't matter to us. We had a great time. I got some great photos as well, cheers to the Viking crew. We had a great time and will be coming back with another bunch of friends and family

What boat do they use to go whale watching? My father is in a wheelchair and I'm wondering if he can go.?

Hi, We use the Viking Starship. We have accommodated wheelchairs. Keep in mind that tides have an effect on the amount of steps to get into the boat. Sometimes there are none.

My daughter and I had an absolute blast piloting the boat, and once we got over the fear factor that we were going "too fast" and gained confidence in piloting the boat for the first time, it felt like second nature. We did the 3 hour Mystic River tour which ended with a "free sail" hour at the end. However, we opted not to go out into the Sound due to heavily windy conditions, so we stayed in the channel in the "playground" area doing donuts and figure-eights. Before we knew it the 3 hours was up. Rob was a great host and he taught us how to pilot the boats in no time. He was also very knowledgeable of the Mystic seaport area. We had a great time and will absolutely be making this a regular part of our yearly Mystic trips!

The reviews were all highly praising and it looked like a fun experience. I have to say: don't hesitate! Book them! Rob was a pro guide and made sure we understood how to operate our boat safely and how to get the most fun out of it. Yes, there are safety things that you need to be aware of, but he was very encouraging of us trying out what the boat can do. We loved getting to do donuts in our boat! The tour itself was very informative, and we really got a feel for the area. We're already looking forward to returning for another season with a full group of friends to rent out all the boats. This is a must-do activity when visiting Mystic. Be sure to arrive on time as requested so that you can be briefed on the safety. That is so important, and that is why they tell you in advance that you will be turned away if you are late to the safety briefing. For those of you who may be wondering, there is ample parking, and it was about a 15-20 minute drive with traffic from downtown Mystic. Again, a huge thank you to Rob for being an awesome guide and helping us have the best experience possible for my husband's birthday surprise. Hope to see you again soon!

The boat has different seating options - wooden benches and cushion seats without backrests. We reserved two of the cushioned areas and showed up ready to check in on time (they ask you to show up about 30 minutes before boarding to check in). You board at the dock just next to the bridge in Mystic, so it couldn't be more convenient if you're exploring Mystic for a day or a weekend. The Argia allows you to bring alcohol (wine and beer) on board (although they ask that you not bring large coolers - there's no room for them), so we brought a couple of bottles of wine bought from the great wine shop down the street. The sail is partly narrated. Our sail was two hours long, and the staff narrated for some of the sailing time - pointing out historic and interesting sites along the sail (islands with an interesting history, homes with interesting architecture, etc.). Between the gorgeous scenery, some narration of fun and interesting facts about Mystic and its harbor, the great wine we'd brought aboard, and great company - it was the perfect way to spend a couple of hours in Mystic. What a beautiful way to enjoy Mystic and its harbor!

Because, in reality, I would love to give them 3.5 stars, but I have to go with 3. So let me go through my views. First, and foremost, the staff was/is great. There were only 3 of us on the cruise. Most other places probably would've have cancelled, but the fact that they still ran the cruise, I give them a lot of credit. Because there were only 3 of us, we also could sit wherever we wanted, so getting an upgraded seat for free was also nice. As I said, the staff was very friendly and informative and even offered to incorporate us in some of the simpler tasks. The ride was great, we had a lot of wind and it made the ride more enjoyable and it was a nice relaxing ride through the harbor (sound? Ocean?). Complimentary lemonade and water are offered and you are free to bring your own food/beverage on board if you want. There even is a brief history lesson during the trip. So, what was bad? Well, there was nothing necessarily bad, but rather disappointing. And this may very well be entirely on me. But, the view(s) were very underwhelming. There really wasn't much of anything of significance to see or view. No lighthouses, fancy/historic buildings, no seals/dolphins, just a very tranquil trip with no excitement or scenery. And, again, that maybe entirely on me. They don't promise or advertise any of that, but I was expecting to see more than I did. You also spend about 1/2 hour getting to and from the dock so of the 2 hour trip only about an hour is in the ocean. It's still a great time, and definitely a case of your mileage may vary. In the end, I think it's a great time but probably not worth the $75. If you can snag a Groupon or other deal to get for $50 or so, I'd do it, but I wouldn't do it again for $75. So in sum: Staff: 5/5 Value: 2/5 Views: 2/5 Overall: 3.5/5
